  1. Then I hope you give the kits more care and attention than you do the mother...
  2. Just need to make sure the picture of bollocks appears on every thread to do with EU/Hybrid/magic fairies...
  3. Hopefully it will get stickied ready for all the people wanting kits...
  4. They are precisely that, small ferrets.
  5. How can you be "shocked one evening", surely you would have noticed the jill looked like she swallowed a grapefruit?
  6. Colder months are better, after the frosts, mainly because the vegetation that will snag nets and cover holes dies back and is easier to clear. It's also better to stop when the number of kits below ground mean that you spend most of your day sitting on a box or digging because the ferrets are killing in more than they normally would.
  7. They have now updated the show website too...
  8. Taken from their Facebook Page, it would appear that the BFF is cancelled due to ground conditions. I'd hate for anybody to drive there and find they had a wasted journey. Link to their FB page is here, although the main website doesn't say anything. Advice would be to check before travelling.
  9. I would suggest that in future you hook them on a milk float or a paper boy's bike for an urban fox, and on the keeper's quad or farm pickup for a country fox. That way the fox would build up a repetitive pattern of behaviour over the same area and seriously skew the results. Either that or ask him under what legislation, and in what court on this fine island, would he sue you for carrying out a lawful and legitimate method of vermin control. As has been said above, "it's part of what happens to foxes"
  10. Some jills just won't tolerate being disturbed, even ones that are well handled and well bonded. I've got a separate hutch for the jill in kit that is away from the main group so she doesn't feel threatened. The nest box is completely enclosed and dark with it's own lid, that way when I open the hutch she doesn't get bathed in light. The entrance is via a tube not a hole so she feels extra secure. I've got a camera set up in the nest box, so I can watch over the kits and count them without disturbing her. Not all of this is necessary, but it helps to stay clear and avoid upsetting the ji
  11. No, but there isn't much talk of human women eating their offspring (other than in parts of Stoke and Wigan). It is entirely possible that they may get along, but it is also possible that the pregnant jill will become extremely defensive and fight her sister. If you aren't going to separate them, at least put a second sleeping/nest box in so that the jill can make her own decision. If she appears to be driving her sister away as it gets close to time then split them up to be on the safe side.
  12. Not all the facts, but at least I read the article before passing comment on it.
  13. That's the problem with forums, lots of people regurgitating other people's opinions without a true understanding of the facts...
  14. Have you even read the article, they give their names...
  15. They weren't firemen, they were community safety advisors (fit smoke alarms).
  16. Well if it's got a £60 collar on it will get picked up in no time
  17. Is the youngest a male and the other two are female by any chance?
  18. RSPCA spokesman said the baby had a lucky escape... Lol, it must have been an EU polecat-angora-mongoose crossed hybrid if the baby had a lucky escape. How can anybody battle with anything that size for 25 minutes, either pick it up or hoof it depending on what it is...
  19. Here we go... Jills can be a lot quicker and far more efficient at killing than a bumbling hob, it's down to the individual temperament of the ferret, Do you find that albino's are better too, or prefer polecats?
  20. Looks well made, should make a nice sturdy seat too!
  21. Cool story bro, but it needs more dragons and sh*t...
  22. You have to let the jill get on top if you want jill kits
