Flash28, Firstly thanks for your response. You could read my comments to Fionn. I would disagree with your apparently rather anti Northern comments. We run events and publish a magazine for the whole of Ireland. Our team is an ALL IRELAND team and we seek to find the best and most proven event organisers from whatever part of Ireland they come from. I do not know of anyone/any club in the ROI who has a greater proven track record than the Mid Antrim terrier club of running successful terrier & lurcher shows. I have been to many of their shows and events both at our Fairs and

Fionn, Thanks for your response. The Terrier show in Birr is run by the Mid Antrim Terrier & Lurcher Club and as with all the events we organise ALL money after expenses and some of the prizes goes back to the club who organises the event. That is the same for all the sports including clay pigeon shooting, fly casting and gundogs. What the club does with these funds is up to them but in terms of the terrier & lurchers the sums raised are not great. What I can say is that Seamus and his team run good shows with fair judges and their main arena displays have done more than anything t

We are currently in the final stages of planning for the two Great Game Fairs of Ireland to take place at Shanes Castle on the 26th & 27th June 2008 ( hosting the 22nd annual All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships) and Birr Castle, Co Offaly on 29th &29th August 2010 ( hosting the ROI Terrier & Lurcher Championships). As usual Saturday will be racing day and Sunday the show classes day. And there is a new system of entry whereby terrier & lurcher enthusiasts wishing to attend the Fairs both days can avail of special admission vouchers giving them half price admis

I think William is or maybe better known as Bill?? Tom Spot On Foxgun - appears to be or emanate from Bill or William. And if as you say I come on to this Forum to promote OUR fairs I do it under my own name not under an alias. In fact I came on to the forum to defend our fairs and people associated with them from what I considered to be unfair attacks. I have to stress I had nothing to do with your post or anyone elses being removed. I should have loved to have seen it and possibly replied. I do not consider my posts to be above criticism or indeed to have our fairs c

My post was on the unmasking of Story Man not Country Man but hey who knows they may be one and the same. I came on the forum to defend myself and people for whom I have a high regard. But I don't mind the rough & tumble of debate and I am prepared to say what I want to say under my own name. Story Man seeks to hide behind a number of aliases but William would appear to be his first name! Love to have seen your "humorous response!" Albert

The dates for the two Great Game Fairs of Ireland are: The Irish Game, Fair Shanes Castle 26th & 27th June 2010 and the Irish Game and Country Fair, Birr Castle, Co Offaly 28th & 29th August 2010. The 2009 Fairs were televised for a multi million international audience by www.countrychannel.tv and the Shanes Castle programme can now be seen on the Country Channel web site. Birr programme to follow. The 2009 Fairs were very well attended and received by countrysports people throughout Ireland and further afield and the 2010 events look like being even better. see www.irish

I see you TC aare still doing a promotion job for Bill & Derek - What prizes are there for this great line up of Terrier & Lurchers? There doesn't appear to be much information up about that! If you are stuck for idea's for Birr I am sure you could always contact Bill or Derek. I don't see them on the forums here needing tips from you! As I have said before, as someone who works lurchers & terriers, I am more concerned about retaining our sport for the future and I will encourage those who are putting effort in to doing the same. If this is your attitude then I don't re -

Madra, I can assure you the judges will judge fairly and the terrier judge is not far off the status of Gary Middleton. No one will influence them on the day but unfortunately we know that if we publish names the judges get a lot of phone calls. That is why the organising club do not want to name the judges. I know I personally have confidence in them and as someone with an impeccable reputation of judging in my own field I don't say that lightly. I will make you a challenge contact me personally and I will send you a ticket for the Sunday. If you feel the judging has not been fa

We are currently fairly well on with the preparation of a hard back book on "Thirty Years Plus of Irish Game Fairs". This will chronicle the development of the Game Fair concept in Ireland since we launched the first major Irish Game Fair in 1979. There will be chapters on all the main sporting competitions and we would like to have any photographs, anecdotes etc over the years up to the present day that you would like to submit. All photographs will be returned to the owners once they are copied and catalogued. This is chance for you, your club and/or your dogs to be part of Irish c

Twiggy, Unlike Moira that was because of the crowds and not the mud! Seriously we had three different exits working but had the largest crowd at any Irish Game Fair on Sunday. Albert -
Bluebell, In spite of all the flack we have been getting over judges, judging, prizes, etc ( which I think is not deserved) I will repeat the offer I made at Shanes for the event at Birr two tickets for the price of one for Terrier & Lurcher exhibitors. i.e. €15 for two tickets. BUT this offer must be taken up before 12th August - no exceptions. Cash, PO or cheque ( made out to Game Fairs Ireland Ltd) address and no of tickets to me at Cranley Hill, 5b Woodgrange Road, Downpatrick BT30 8JE Tel 028 ( 048) 44839167. Now with the best prizes on offer, the best admission prices, an

For people looking for directions for the Birr Fair on the 22nd/23rd August 2009 go to www.maps.google.co.uk type in Irish Game and Country Fair and you can then get directions plus estimated travelling time from your home location. Don't be distracted by the reference to the Moira Fair. It would appear the organisers of this Fair want to tap into our brand names but there are only two Great Game Fairs of Ireland and they are at Shanes Castle and Birr Castle!

yes well do somethin about the judgin this year and dont have the winners gettin out of the same van as the judge Auld Boy, Tommy told me he had put up the prize structure but as usual had neglected to mention all the prizes including a specially engraved tankard I am putting up for the winner to keep. There will be other prizes including class trophies, rosettes, dog meal, leads etc The judges are a matter for the club to select BUT I know for a fact the terrier judge last year was completely fair -IT WAS MY BROTHER! and he had no axe to grind. He has kept working terriers for m

Having just had record crowds at Shanes Castle and a prize fund that has not been matched before in Ireland we are part of the way towards giving Ireland North and South two international class Game Fairs. Our sponsors were delighted by the level of competition entries and impressed by the good crowd on Saturday and the huge record breaking crowd for any Fair in Ireland on the Sunday, giving us the record overall for any fair in Ireland. For those that may doubt this claim see the photos that will be up on our web site and in Irish Countrysports and Country Life; and of course see the pr0

Shanes Castle No 1 - now to Birr
AlbertJ replied to TomW42's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I have answered "True Countryman" fully and you can see my opinion. I sympathise with working dogs having difficulty in competing with more "show focused" animals but at the end of the day all shows are beauty contests where confirmation is more important than working ability. I will see if Shamie , Matt and I can work up some idea to test working ability at the Fair. Your ideas are welcome. One thing I will say is that entry fees for the terrier & lurcher event are much lower than for all the other sports and I did offer you guys 2 days for the price of one. Clubs take the entry -
Shanes Castle No 1 - now to Birr

I was talking to ones who said they paid £4 quid per entry - could they have paid for the barbour coat? I was asked by TOMW42 (or is it Albert?) if I am connected with Moira. I have nothing to do with the Moira show but at least their prizes were worth having and entry was not overpriced. On top of the dog food, trophies and rosettes there were leather leads, massive dog beds etc - what good is a barbour coat to a working lurcher, terrier or whippet? True Hunter I should be delighted to know your true identity and debate the merits of Shanes and Moira with you man to man. I don' -
I hope the weather picks up for this Fair because two wet ones in a row is not good for the public perception of Game Fairs in general. AlbertJ

Ozzy, I passed you post and others on to Albert Tittering the Director of the Shanes Castle and Birr Castle - not a terrier & lurcher guy but a doggy man since a boy and someone who has always supported terriers & lurchers. His response: Tom, Re : Your mail Thank you for passing on some of the messages from the Hunting Life site - I wish I had the time you guys have to spend on these sites. Interesting comments- although I tend to agree with the guy who implied you all had too much time on your hands! I have always tried to be fair in my comments on Moira in th
