Irish National and International Game Fairs
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Fionn, Thanks for your response. I am not a member of the Mid Antrim Terrier Club and cannot speak for them as to what they do or where they go. If they choose not to go to Waterford, a twelve hour plus return journey, for most of them then that is up to them. If they don't it doesn't mean they support country sports any less than people who travel 30 minutes to one hour down the road down to Waterford. As for the organising team of the great Game Fairs of Ireland and Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine we have already supported RISE in a number of ways including giving them -
Apparently other organisers admire our branding and overall success so much that they wish to tap into it by using brand names of our fairs or variants of them in their advertising. In order to alleviate any confusion that this might cause we wish to make the following statements : 1. Northern Ireland's national Game Fair is the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on the 26th & 27th June 2010. There is no doubt whatsover that the 2009 fair at Shanes Castle had the largest attendance ever achieved by any Game Fair in Ireland, the largest prize fund and the most competitors. Furthermor

Nicole, No - this is a totally new show under 'new management' and we have decided to concentrate the whole programme into one FULL day on Sunday 2nd May. And I mean it will be a very full day from 10.00 - 6.00. The local papers have come on board as MEDIA SPONSORS and we have excellent coverage and interest we expect there to be a very big crowd so get there early! Albertj

Irish Terrier & Lurcher Championships
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Tullyeyed, Thank you for a civil reply and I thank you for your kind invitation to your show. Your aside about the 'Banbridge backwater' brought a smile to my face at this late hour and I stand properly admonished for my jibe. In the spirit of your invitation I do apologise for that back handed insult! Unfortunately with Ballywalter, Shanes and Birr to organise this year my schedule is horrendous and on the 10th April I will be at Shanes Castle for the gundog qualifier for the Shanes Fair - in my capacity as organiser of the Fair and President of the club running the tests. However w -
Irish Terrier & Lurcher Championships
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Tullyeyed, As I said on his thread I had no desire to hijack Foxgun Tom's thread about a serious working terrier show in Scotland and the extremely imaginative event he came up with to promote working terriers, to argue or debate with you. I consider that you have been rather unfairly abusive to him, as he is simply someone who genuinely is interested in and wants to promote working terriers and lurchers without getting involved in real or imagined parochial disputes. I do not wish his serious thread to be polluted any further, so I will not be answering any points you make on that -
As well as hosting what should be three of the top Terrier & Lurcher Shows in Ireland at Ballywalter, Shanes Castle and Birr Castle our team has decided for 2010 to give special admission rates. For Ballywalter and Shanes Castle ALL country sports enthusiasts will be treated to two big days out for the price of one. The ticket charges at the Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair on the 2nd May 2010 of £10 for Adults/£25 for a family ( programme & parking FREE) will also include a free ticket for the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on one day on the 26th or 27th June. We are delighted to announce that we will be staging three Great Terrier & Lurchers Shows in Ireland in 2010 in association with what we consider will be Ireland’s premier Game & Country Fairs. In 2009 the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle had a record crowd for any Irish game or country Fair, while the Irish Game and Country Fair at Birr Castle, in spite of dreadful weather on the Sunday, had an attendance second only to that achieved by Shanes Castle. This year the Game Fair at Ballywalter joins our portfolio and with an action packed programme crammed into one day we consider

Rockview Harriers Annual SHow, Sunday May 2nd
AlbertJ replied to Johnny85's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Fionn, Unfortunately Seamus and I will not be there. As you are aware the BASC Fair planned for the 1st&2nd May ( its traditional dates) for several years has been cancelled and a number of people/groups in the area asked us to look at saving a show at Ballywalter. We are running a new replacement event at Ballywalter on Sunday 20th May at 10.00 to 6.00pm. I genuinely wasn't aware of the Rockview Show but had been approached to sponsor something at it before I knew the date. I had provided modest support within a small budget for terrier & lurcher shows I had allocated on to -

MOURNE LURCHER AND TERRIER CHARITY SHOW
AlbertJ replied to tango's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I have been impressed by the interest and involvement of the enthusiasts on this forum even though some have been fairly and unfairly critical of me and our events! I admit that in spite of prodding/perstering by Seamus & Matt we have not been able to get sponsors to come in to get the Terrier & lurcher prize fund up to the level of our other events but we are working on it. Also while we spend quite a bit on sponsorship each year for worthy organisations and clubs involved in the other sports we have not put much into Terriers & Lurchers other than in the shows associated with -

Tango, Sorry my last message didn't appear. We have been approached by a number of clubs all over Ireland for sponsorship of Terrier & Lurcher events. With a couple of initiatives for our own shows our funds are stretched but we have agreed a package for some shows Which I am happy to offer for your show : Best in Show £25 plus tankard. Champion Lurcher : Years subscription to Irish Countrysports and Country Life plus two tickets to Shanes & Ballywalter Reserve : Years subscription to Irish Countrysports and Country Life Champion Terrier : Years subscription to Iri -

BRAND NEW! Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair, Sunday 2nd May 2010 from 10.00 to 6.00 pm The team from the very succesful Great Game Fairs of Ireland brand (Organisers of the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle and the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle) have decided to organise this exciting new event to REPLACE the cancelled BASC FAIR previously held on this date at Ballywalter and provide an early season Fair for true hunting, shooting and fishing enthusiasts and their families. Thanks for your post. I agree it is an Irish Show and an Irish Club that currently runs it. At Birr just as at Ballinlough the terrier & lurcher sections of the show are run by experienced Northern Clubs. as an overall event organiser it is important for us to have experienced and knowledgeable clubs/organisation running individual events. With a huge public audience these are not the events to have inexperienced people " having a go." As I stressed earlier no one from the Irish Terrier Federation has ever spoken to ME about involvement in our events. As Fionn has admitted they spoke

Fionn, Thanks for your response and festive good wishes. Once again I feel I have to correct you. At no time was I contacted or did I communicate with anyone regarding the Irish Terrier Federation. I certainly do not recall you or anyone else asking me could they run the show. You may be confusing our organisation with that of Margaret Edgill who ran shows at Birr. I have only been involved in Birr since 2007. Once again I must correct you over your trophy claim. Since I have been involved with terrier & lurcher shows in spite of the difficulty in attracting outside sponsorship we

well said fionn Fionn, See my response to Kevin, my invitation to him to come up with positive suggestions applies. The allegation that I was approached by the Irish Terrier Federation and turned them down is totally FALSE. I have NEVER been approached by anyone purporting to be part of the alleged federation. I heard something about one being formed but as far as I am aware I have seen nothing about who are members, who it represents, its objectives, what events it runs etc. My telephone number os published in the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine. I am always willi

well said fionn Kevin, The Mid Antrim Terrier & Lurcher Club has many other members than Seamus. I know quite a few of them and I have attended their AGM on a couple of occasions. Seamus and Matt took over running the terrier events at our Fair in NI when terrier and lurcher shows in the UK and our own at Clandeboye were developing a bad reputation for disruption. In fact many shows in the UK banned them. Seamus, Matt and some of the other guys in the Mid Antrim approached me to say they would run the show properly. Since then they have run the show in an efficient fashion.

Sounds like reasonable advice Tom Tom, Thanks for your responses and your best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. I am sorry you didn't get a chance to visit the ROI and I should be delighted to invite you to come to both Shanes and Birr 2010 and run an open minded eye over the shows. If you want to email me your address ( email me on irishcountrylifestyle@btinternet.com) I will send you DVD copies of the country channel programes on Birr and Shanes. Photo attached of the record crowds at Shanes Castle on Sunday Have a good Christmas and an enjoyable New Year.
