NI and ROI Qualifiers for Master Mc Grath Challenge
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Tango, Very well done to you ( AND YOUR FAMILY and FRIENDS) for a well organised and well run show including the inaugural Irish Digging Championship. Thanks for hosting the qualifier for the Redmills Five Nations International Lurcher Championship - a fine young dog goes through to represent your show in the final at Birr Castle on the 28th August. Also for hosting a qualifying heat for the Redmills Master McGrath Challenge. Again two very fast dogs going through to represent Mourne Show in the final at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on the 25th June. The winner of ea -

The digging was a great success, well done to you all it was very hard work, poor Dessie did very well and he come across such a big stone, no problem to him what number were you Grafter... The Irish Digging Championship was a great idea conceived by Tango and one which we in Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine were delighted to sponsor. It was a huge success and my heartiest congratulations to all the teams. In fact the competition was so closethat there should be no losers and I would like to extend my offer of ayear's subscription to the magazine and a couple of ti -

Best of luck with the show Tango. Disappointed the digging Championship isn't in the 'rock hard' ground we've had recently! Hope the afternoon clears for the main action. An early start and well into the work on the magazine but hope to be with you c1.30/2.00. Albertj -

Des, Good to hear Seamus is on the mend. It was unfortunate that on top of everything else he hurt his leg badly which affected his mobility badly. Glad to hear that he is getting well enough to consider being involved in Florence Court. Let me have your results of the qualifiers as soon as possible. Albertj

To put the matter into perspective we have spoken to Garda, our security company, the event organisers and several members of the terrier & lurcher fraternity that were actually there and few saw anything untoward except two groups of about a dozen guys in total who at times were hassling people about purchasing dogs. We have had two actual complaints - one from a father who felt his son and he were being hassled about selling their dog and the other a girl had a puppy stolen. The vast majority of the people ( about a dozen in total contributing to the debate) 'had heard about it'.

Genuinely sorry to hear about Seamus's health problems PPP though that the Mid Antrim club folds through one mans illness, Suggestion for 2012; have each of your shows organised by seperate clubs then maybe if anything like what has happened this year you will have an alternative/experienced club to step in at short notice Eggs in basket springs to mind Y.I.S Leeview LV, The Mid Antrim Club has not folded. As I said Seamus may feel up to running smaller events from time to time but I felt a new organisation was needed to take forward the new larger terrier & lurcher events th

Unfortunately due to continuing ill health Seamus Erwin of the Mid Antrim Club has had to stand down from organising duties at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle ( and the All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships) and at the Irish Game & Country fair at Birr Castle, Co Offaly. He hopes to be involved in some capacity in other more minor events throughout the year. On behalf of the Directors of the Great Game Fairs of Ireland I should like to thank Seamus for bringing his knowledge and organisational abilities to our events to create some of the largest terrier and lurcher even

loads about the lurchers and terriers. Twiggy, Fieldsports Channel largely decide what to film themselves - they are not making a promotional DVD for us but rather a serious TV programme. Unfortunately they could not film the lurcher racing as it ran over but they did film some of the show and an interview with John Humphries BUT as you can see from the site they had some technical difficulties and had to shorten the programme. HOWEVER they have guaranteed to film the final of the Redmills Master Mc Grath Challenge at Shanes Castle and the Final of the Redmills Five Nations Internat

Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair

Kegs, We were delighted with the turnout of Terriers & Lurchers at Ballywalter but your claim that they made up over one third of the crowd is rather exaggerated. We actually know from the gate what % of the overall crowd were made up by T&L owners and Clay Shooters. Both had high attendance and certainly there were vastly more shooters at Ballywalter than Ballinlough! BUT both were far outweighed by the general sporting public, gundog enthusiasts and anglers. I attach a photo taken by me at 4.00pm on the Saturday when there were NO terriers & lurcher events. And this was -

The number of whippets caught us by surprise but will be dealt with in my re-organisation of the terrier & lurcher events. Was at the show and have to agree there was a lot of whippets on show. I'd suggest next year that they have a separate show ring the same as the terriers. It would greatly reduce the time it takes for the showing overall as i think this year took a wee bit too long. Still a good day out with plenty to do and see. Will be re-organised for next year and for Shanes Castle! -

Skinny, While everyone is entitled to their opinion on anything for you to claim Ballywalter was inferior to Ballinlough is absolute rubbish. The attendance last year on the Saturday at Ballinlough demonstrated its lack of appeal. I would accept it was smaller than Moira but if anything the stands were better quality. Taking the stable yard alone are you seriously claiming the Firefly shop with guns and good quality clothing; The Smyths Shop majoring on Barbour and Guns; the huge gun display By Donal Mc Cloy; the Redmills Stand; the Flogas Game & Cookery display; the Wildebeeste Embro -

As a Fair organiser I would agree - though I haven't been to Frampton. Our Irish fairs would be more like Moy - possibly slightly bigger. Scone would be my favourite as it is the right size to get round in a day. We have a huge canine show at Shanes on the 25th & 26th June - Interclub Golden Retriever Test with teams from all over the UK, Pedigree dog show, Dog Agility Show, International gundog team event, Spaniel and retriever tests - novice and open, dog& gun event etc Plus the All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships and the final of the MasterMc Grath Challenge lurcher raci

Twiggy, I only got across twice to the rings during the day to help out with minor problems. Unfortunately or really fortunately with three sets of TV cameras there and loads of press plus all the little problems you have to sort out in a show this size I was kept on the go throughout the two days. Will be at Mourne in much slower time. I did get to watch most of the racing as it happened after the show. Any one day shows that I am involved in in future will start earlier. Will be at Mourne in much slower time.Hope to meet up with all my 'sparring partners' from the forum then! Al -
Ballywalter tomorrow then shanes class After being at Ballywalter today, anyone that could call this a big game fair is having a laugh. I was at it last year and was not for going back but with all the hype on these forums about it being second only to Shanes Castle I decided to go again. We were round the show in just over an hour, the main arena was dead, the family were bored senseless and the wife never seen as bad an arts & crafts area at any show...her words. Will not be back. Lets hope Moira is a lot better than this, though it wouldn't be hard. You must have been spr
