  1. Martin, Thanks for your sporting post. Your two suggestions will be taken on board . I suggested the 200 FOR THE FINAL at SHANES as I thought the 150 gave the small dogs the advantage as would standardising the qualifying distance. Also all potential qualifying shows have different distances and I think the Master Mc Grath should really be part of the normal racing. The distance at Birr has still to be worked out with Shane Lee. But I hope you all give Shane your support as he takes over the racing. I thought by starting the ball rolling again at Birr it would give lurcher enthu
  2. First application in for qualifier - more enquiries welcome as we hope to make the Master McGrath even better in 2012 So far We have two ROI Two NI and 3 Scottish applications for qualifiers for the 2012 Master Mc Grath. What about some more Irish , English and Welsh applications? Alberj
  3. Kegs, Your points are well taken and have been made to me by others by 'phone. I had asked Matt to ensure he had back up lures in place. I enjoyed being at the MMgG but as you are probably aware I am 'hands on' with a lot of the other events including the interclub golden retriever test which only comes our way every 11/12 years so can't be everywhere at once.We had the best shooting, angling, and gundogs at any of the fairs ever and should have had the best terrier & lurchers - I am determined to get this right so I do value suggestions. We will be reveiwing all aspects of the terrier a
  4. I hope you appreciate the difficulty of refusing an entry to someone who says his dog is a whippet. I was there when a guy asked Matt could he enter a non KC registered whippet. I don't know whether this was the dog about which there has been such a furore. As we had said in advance of the event we were not restricting it to KC registered dogs I said if it was a whippet it could be entered. I felt that since the issue of non ped whippets v KC whippets only came up a couple of weeks before the event it was infair to exclude anyone who genuinely thought they had a whippet. However now
  5. Now that is a challenge to owner of the winner of the whippet racing! Anyone with any sense must realise that Matt or any other racing organisers cannot argue the toss with someone who says his or her dog is a whippet. Size solely doesn't really come into it and in fact may not be any advantage - look at Rose Mc Coy's small dog and China too is no giant. As far as I can see there are three solutions: 1. If challenged, at the show - not anonymously on these forums - the owner should be prepared to meet the challenge by saying how he or she thinks it is a whippet. 2. If he or she

  9. Well the first Master Mc Grath Challenge is over and John Humphries bitch China is the champion. Congratulations to John, to Rose McCoy (almost literally a short head behind) and to Shane Lee for qualifying two dogs in the final. Also to all the dogs that qualified all over the UK and our thanks to those who turned up to race on the day and took the result so sportingly. I would like to thank our line judges Tom Fulton, Chairman of the Hunting Assciation of Ireland, Billy and Darren. We did have the technology of a photo finish but had decided that judging would be by a three judges major
  10. any time any where. ill bring the dogs lol There was a lot of problems with the lure But Matt and crew have to be comended for sticking with it if was not for the likes of Matt we have very little here In Ireland. The master McGarth ,Don't know when I saw better racing WELL DONE ALL Was there on Sunday the Lurcher that won was in great nick as was the terrier Could not fault any of the judges The whippet that won was in top condition to me it was a tight call Again well done. All complaints put a side it was good weekend Thanks Albert and crew Didn't see the rest of the r
  11. We present the prizes at the sponsors stands AND the cheques given to the winners from HQ. We also try to present the prizes shortly after the event ends rather than having people wait about for a presentation. I could be flippant and say "as for 'taking a leaf out of Moira's book' if that's what terrier & lurcher owners want we could certainly do that and reduce our prize fund for terrier and lurchers considerably!" AND of course I heard complains from gundog owners who finished their event at Moira early and had to wait about all day for the presentation of a quite modest prize. A

  13. PobbyB, You were supposed to go to HQ to collect Cheque and tankard and they were there. As anyone can tell you I DO NOT ADVERTISE any PRIZE or ANY EVENT that is not at our show. PM me your Name and Telephone no and you can collect your prizes. Albert
  14. There is a REdmills tent at Shanes Castle on Gunmakers Row. I Understand they were not at the NCF at Moira but Redmills support all three Great Game Fairs of Ireland. Few my mates said they want around four times and could only see feedwell dog foods???? and they also had to leave with out running there dogs in the racing. Why is the use old bags and other stuff for the lure and not a foxes tail or something We had Chudleys, Bluegrass , Feedwell and Redmills dog food stands. Redmills had a large stand with prominent aisle facing banners but it was in a row with Vintage Guns, Kenne
  15. Sorry Twiggy I understand there were some problens with both lures. Can I make it up with a couple of tickets for Birr where SHane Lee and the Rosscrea Club are running the lurchers or if you are at Shanes again tomorrow come and see me for a chat. Albert

  17. Thanks to everyone who came to watch the Master McGrath Final and the sporting manner in which everyone took the results. John Humphreys China won in a photo finish with Rose McCoy's Diego with Shane Lee's two dogs close up. Great to see great dogs running today and four fine dogs running in the final. Thanks to to everyone who turned out today to give us our largest ever Saturday crowd. After the huge downpours that occurred from 3.30 until late last night I thought our crowd would be well down but careful management of a great site ensured that there were good underfoot conditions a
  18. Just back and no joy, wasn't expecting to see them but better going and looking than wondering and not going. Your right about knowing what they came for, the left all the cover dogs and took all the lurchers and the terrier! Absolute scum!! Does anyone know when the terrier show starts? 1.00 pm
  19. You'd be very welcome - see if you can do as well with the whippt as you've done at the digging and with the terriers!
  20. is it really 25 pound in? £10 for adults £25 for family and £5 children over 7 programme & parking free.
  21. 10.00 each day. Ground conditions fine after great weather until 4.00. Bit of weather since then but all the main stands in with no ground damage - so good grass covering and no mud! As you know the car parks have roads all round so no problems there. Would suggest good footwear and wellies in reserve. Fingers crossed for tomorrow to be good AlbertJ
