  1. LV, Eng FT Ch Haulstone Larry won the IGL ( UK ) Retriever Championship in 1937 running as a golden retriever. His Grandmother Lizzie was registered with the KC as ( retriever interbred) ; His great grandmother was Haulstone Jenny ( Retriever Interbred) and his gggrandfather was Eng FT Ch Laylers Defender ( Labrador). And his owner was not viewed as a cheat by either the Kennel Club or his fellow competitors AND people did purchase pups from him as his lines are still carried through to today. And if you looked at photographs of him - you would say he was a golden retriever. Now if the K
  2. you sort out them coded signals yet albert Primrose, On one hand your initial post congratulated me on giving the racing over to the Roscrea Club and congratulated them on doing a good job and then went on to accuse them of cheating. With a hand powered lure such as the Roscrea team use your suggestion of watching secret signals by the lure man is likely to result in premature slipping - which would be noticed or possibly late slipping I cannot see how it would give anyone an advantage. 5. Martin has a crossbred Whippet which is unregistered! I did not say it was an unregistered KC whippet. Our classification was KC whippets and unregistered whippets ( not specified as purebred whippets without registration). This to include unregistered whippets of all types. My point was that if a whippet is unregistered by definition its parentage/ ancestry is not confirmed. Short of DNA testing no one can say its a whippet except the owner. We will discuss this with our organisers but it is likely in future we will run classes for whippets ( KC registered) and whippets ( un reg) or (
  6. Following the success of the three Great Game Fairs of Ireland in 2011, the 2012 dates have been set as follows: Ballywalter Game & Country Living Fair, Ballywalter Estate, Co Down 5th & 6th May 2012 Irish Game Fair, Shanes Castle , Antrim 7th & 8th July 2012 Irish Game & Country Fair, Birr Castle, Co Offaly 25th & 26th August 2012 Plans have been put in place to introduce new attractions in all of the areas and to maintain or increase prize funds. The Terrier, Lurcher and Whippet events at Ballywalter and Shanes Castle will be run by Matt Lee and the Gl
  7. sure it won a working class at a show man course youd want a service lol,on a serious note,a well done to the lads doin the racing,a well done job and to albert as i usually am hard on him well done on a good fair.good to see a couple of workin dogs take the 5 nations win a reserve two crackin animals Kegs, As you know I don't take 'robust' comments to heart . I speak frankly myself and I prefer plain talking especially if it includes positive suggestions. Thought the winner would be up against it in the Five Nations with two 'racing type' judges out of three but quality shines
  8. Leewview, Once again you make definitive statements of opinion as fact. I may not be a whippet expert but I do know a little bit about DNA as I studied genetics and have a continuing interest in it. . DNA testing ( and I am not suggesting going down this route) could be highly indicative of whether a whippet is 'pure bred' or not or in an argument over parentage could certainly prove this either way within the statistical limits of such testing. I am not disputing that an un reg and non ped whippet might be different and I have never stated otherwise. The point I was making that it is im

  10. The holiday was excellent, did you read the post "hunting down under" and see the pics ? I''m in Malaysia for a few days at the moment, and I'm trying to get someone to take me out pig hunting !! Never miss an opportunity !! LOL !! Cheers. Ch, Never been to Malaysia but I assume its like Indonesia for wild boar. When I was working in Indonesia had one of the best nights hunting of my life in the teal plantations up at Verita on Java. We were shooting from a ptaform on top of a landrover at night from seats welded on to the platform and our rifles ( carbines) in scabbards. Snap s
  11. There was an honest attempt at Birr to deal with complaints from KC reg whippet owners about them being disadvantaged . Hence the split. Between registered whippets and non registered whippets. Martin Tucker regarded his dog as a non KC registered whippet. Therefore from my point of view he ran legitimately. If a dog is not registered no matter how experienced a person is in a particular breed they can only give an opinion as to what is in the ancestry of the dog. As I have said one of the first golden retrievers to win the retriever championship had close labrador ancestry. And as someone sa

  13. best thing to do is BAN THE KC REG DOGS and get back to working dogs more fun for THE TRUE HUNTING MAN The one thing everyone appears to agree on is that the KC registered dogs are whippets. The dispute appears over which of the non KC registered dogs are whippets. If the KC dogs were banned the disputes are likely to continue. What interests me is why people complain AFTER the fair is over. Might be something to do with people not knowing the results BEFORE the show Y.I.S Leeview Or not being at the Fair and just looking to find something to complain about - I note that
  14. Leeview, The controversy has resulted largely because of comments by people who were not there or who didn't have the balls to speak up on the day. It is easy to be critical behind a mask of aof an alias but more difficult to put one's money were one's mouth is. This is the reason for the deposit for an objection- this is used in both racing and KC shows. What is not in any way controversial is the fact that we ran three record breaking fairs at Ballywalter, Shanes and Birr with the best prize structures and the top events for terriers, lurchers and whippets. The Great Game Fairs of I

  16. Perhaps our classification definition was not clear enough and/or you have inferred it meant something else but basically there were two race classifications 1. For KC Registered Whippets and 2 Unregistered whippets to include unregistered dogs and non pedigree. By simple definition a non KC registered whippet does not necessarily have a traceable pedigree. The organising club and I were quite clear about what we meant and that is why we felt Martin who raced without objection on the day was entitled to his prize. I should make it clear that within the whole scheme of things at the fair wh
  17. I would like to make it clear I did not call you unladylike - just one of your comments! Liked your riposte over the greyhound! Your choice whether you come to OUR fairs again - they are not MY fairs. Albertj
  18. Lesley, I am afraid I am unable to follow your logic and if you felt I was 'talking down' to you I apologise. I should have just said I deplored your language as being most unladylike! As you say there were two classifications KC Registered whippets and Non KC registered whippets. You may have inferred ( incorrectly) that this excluded non pedigree whippets but both the organising club and I took a different view - i.e all unregistered whippets fell into this class AND no one complained on the day - so it would appear that everyone there had a similar understanding. As such Martin was

  20. Martin, Thanks for clarifying the position with your dog. We made a genuine attempt to be as inclusive as possible and still there are people who complain AFTER the event and who are so keen to do so that they don't even read what was actually said. Lesley D please do me the courtesy of reading and quoting what I actually said to Martin. We have tried to facilitate the increased interest in whippets with extra show classes and an extra racing class. These all cost us money and in the whole scheme of of things I certainly don't feel like paying to be insulted! I am going to put on
  21. Lesley, Most delicately put! As I have said the time to make a complaint is at the fair not afterwards. I did not say he won the race fairly what I said was that if he regarded his dog as a whippet , which he assured me he had purchased it as, AND NO ONE OBJECTED - I was not going to disqualify him or penalise him retrospectively. If anyone wants to object in the future then I have indicated how and when it should be done. Albertj
  22. The huge success of the Roscrea in running probably the best whippet, lurcher and terrier racing that I have seen is being compromised by the ongoing argument of what will be regarded as a whippet in our racing. Martin Tucker had offered to return his prize because of the controversy. I refused and sent him this reply- he can post his original mail to me if he wants to : "Martin, We decided to split the whippets into KC registered and non KC registered. My understanding of this split was to have definitively KC registered dogs separated from non registered and non pedigree whippets.

  24. I was not asked for my opinion when I was at the prize giving. AND at that stage no one challenged the result. Had there been a challenge and I had been asked to look at the dog and give my opinion I would have done so. As I have said before we decided to try to resolve an issue about the whippet racing by putting in an extra classification - this was an honest attempt to do so which cost us extra prize money. As I have said we will consider other positive suggestions how we can resolve this issue but as far as I am concerned you or no one else sets the time that we have. The matter will be di
