  1. Well you are consistent anyway in continuing your criticism but at least this time it is mainly against me and not someone 'caught in the crossfire' of what appears to be a rather obsessive campaign of criticism against our shows. I am going to answer some of your more definitive but clearly misguided and unsustainable points : 1. As far as it is relevant John Beach was the land agent of Shanes. He was friendly with the guy who ran Chatsworth and would not have needed you to get him tickets. 2."Anyone claiming to work their dogs when they dont would soon be found out IMHO". How w
  2. TO BE HONEST Albert i dont compete because for one i have no interest in showing dogs but if i do bring dogs i they would be entered in the working class to support the show but that wont be happing again from you told me the money goes straight in to seamus an matts pocket (not your excact words ) iv been going since early 80s when it was at clandeboy ps i think you do a first class job for a family day out an i couldnt think of anything to improve it Seamus no longer is involved in our shows he retired last year. Matt & the team make a donation to a charity from whatever is collect
  3. Do you not have any allegations to make for 10, 20 or even 30 years ago? Because this year is our 34 year and I will celebrate my 50th Fair at Shanes Castle. For all that time we have put on successful shows for terriers and lurchers. The clubs run the shows I have really only ever financed them until just over year and half ago when I came on this forum to speak for myself because a 'well meaning colleague' was misquoting me when he was defending our events. I make suggestions but the ultimate decision on who is invited to judge is their's. Now the judges for Ballywalter have been select
  4. When Rose Judge the whippets in Shanes Castle the champion whippet was the same whippet that won the working class, which was a working whippet Graham you protest to much, but I know where your coming from.... Not protesting John, just proving a point, the bitch was Simons whippet bitch Yea Graham Meeks whippet don't know if he works it and Fiona won the over with Maveric judged by Humphrys but that is old news I was not speaking about Rose I was on about breed standards and judges having to meet a criteria It is meant to fun at the shows not crufts Next Albert will asking for
  5. Chart, I really do appreciate the difference. In fact I made the point earlier that because there is no standard judging is more difficult and more down to personal preference as to what the judge has 'in their mind' as the ideal dog for working. Even with a standard this is the subjective bit of judging and what makes different totally fair judges have preferences. However things such as basic conformation ( taking into account possible parentage and function);balance;movement and overall soundness; condition and presentation are all things that are the objective factors in judging any d
  6. Sean, Fair play to you for coming back on under your own name. I admire a man who steps up to the mark on a challenge. " I've known Seamus Irwin from the 90's(were nt you supposed to come over to England with him around that time to see how lurcher shows were run over here? " That is not the case - I normally leave the clubs running the events to decide on how they run them and Seamus had been running the Terrier & Lurcher show at the fair since 1981 until we changed organisers last year. Have I ever judged-if so where and when? "Well yes I have judged a good few shows fro
  7. "I would nt think of supporting a show judge on the basis of 'he works his dogs' So you dont mind supporting a judge that wins plenty of racing to be satisfactory to lads that are entering a working lurcher show? :hmm: Y.I.S Leeview LV, I had intended to let this thread run out. But if anyone looks at your posts it would appear that one of your main interests on this forum is sniping at our events. I felt it was only a matter of time before you joined the criticism. Someone whose only qualification is that he or she claims to 'work their dogs' and has never done anything at s
  8. Hi lads, Can you pm your personal quarrels as this thread is about our judges for Ballywalter. And we have more good news regarding prizes as Brian Connaughton of www.wildhunter.eu has joined our sponsors with prizes of callers and lamps. Full details posted soon. Albertj
  9. LOL.....ill come anytime watch your bitch work single handed then.......and never once did albert as far as i read asked...he said if you think you could do a better job...then you jumped on it lol....... and i said if i was called never said i was going to do it To be fair Danny you did respond to my challenge - many others who criticise wouldn't dream of taking up the challenge of judging which can be a thankless task. Now that really is my final word on the judging for Ballywalter. But as I said earlier we are willing to listen to suggestions for judges but it has to be not ju

  11. Now we do have a veteran lurcher class - its always good to see some of the older dogs and especially some of the 'lasters'. If you're not too busy you or your good lady could pop her into the veteran class - now she really does look like a worker!
  12. Can I say to you or anyone suggesting judges for us to consider that we are willing to consider suggestions but need to have some justification for selecting a judge other than you claim 'he works his dogs'. As a former chairman now President of the Ulster Golden Retriever Club I have had an input into selecting show, working test and Field Trial judges. I wouldn't think of supporting a show judge on the basis of 'he works his dogs' AND bear in mind such a person would have had the work of his dogs demonstrated through actual tests or trials not just on the basis of someone claiming that
  13. LJ, A post of reason! We had several requests about who was judging. On balance we decided to post as it gives the person who wants to avoid a judge the chance to do so without having the expense of travelling. Under KC shows this is the system - I personally when I showed dogs went under everyone because I used showing as a form of relaxation rather than having to try to win all the times. I actually stopped showing when I had three dogs just a couple of gstars off their full title ( they all had their working qualification) when I happened to win virtually everything at the Club CH show

  16. I have no need to 'defend my actions' - I did not select Rose to judge - but I did approve it. I think it is most unfair of anyone to 'prejudge' a selected judge without waiting to see the result of the judging. Rose has been a big winner at our fairs and throughout the country for many years with good well conditioned dogs and I suspect most of her critics could not pick, breed , or train a dog to beat her. I respond to critical posts on this forum - not because I have to justify myself to anyone but I think it is necessary to try to put a reasoned point of view to those who appar

  19. Just one question to all of you guys who are criticising Rose being given the judging appointment at Ballywalter - how many of you have beaten her dogs in the racing! Or more importantly how many of your dogs could?
  20. Rose has not judged at our shows before but she has won plenty at them. Kieran judged lurchers last year - I heard no complaints and the dog he qualified won the Five Nations under three different judges. As you know he also keeps whippets and we felt he was competent to judge them As I said we intend to mix Irish and UK judges. I feel it is an insult to Irish judges if they cannot have respect when they judge at home. It is no surprse that a number of potentially good Irish judges shy away from judging because of the way they get 'pre judged' on this and other forums. At the end of
  21. Pigsy, A dog show judge judges on conformation and condition and arguably on whether a dog is for purpose. The first two ae obvious the third is rather more intangible. However a dog show judge cannot assess a dog's working ability. Someone like Rose who has consistently produced racing winners is obviously very competent to assess conformation and condition - her dogs have both othewise they could not win! A dog show is not a test of digging - if you want to test your digging ability I suggest we see you at the Mourne show! I say give the girl a chance. Albertj Albert J
  22. TH, Our fairs include shows and racing. Anyone who has a good racing dog is obviously competent to judge conformation and condition. Can you tell me how anyone can judge what is a good working dog at a show? Albertj
  23. Love to hear what your dogs - if you have any as we are still waiting to see a photo - have done racing or showing and/or what you have done in terms of judging. It would appear that all you wish to do is to criticise our initiatives and shows - thankfully you appear to be part of a vey small minority! Albertj
  24. Danny 300, Rose has been one of the most consistent racing winners that I can remember at the Fairs. She obviously knows how to pick and train a dog. And as one of our younger enthusiasts , who has judged before, I am quite happy that she will be both a competent and a fair judge. Why are so many people critical of Irish judges? Lots of people have asked that we post our judges in advance although it can lead to rather unfair criticism of the judges in advance and 'pre judging' what they will do. This isn't always right but it is human nature to do so. I have to say, I even said, in
  25. The judges selected for the Ballywalter Game Fair for the Terrier, Whippet and Lurcher Show on the 6th May are as follows: Whippets : Kieran Young Terriers : Barrie Wade Lurchers : Rose McCoy This is in line with our policy of not only bringing in top UK judges but also giving opportunities to what we consider to be good Irish judges. Please note earlier start time. Classes to be posted soon. Judges for Shanes will be posted soon.
