  1. Dogs' Balls, Ian would appear to be a gentleman who realises you can have a difference of opinion without resorting to abuse. In fact if you read my post I was not attacking Ian or his organisation of what I think looks a genuinely wideranging terrier & lurcher event which will take a lot of organising BUT rather making a bit of a 'tongue in cheek' response to the claims made by the organisers of the Northern Ireland countryside festival. Since you came on this forum you have been a bit of a 'cheer leader' for the Moira event with a downer on me, our events and until you managed
  2. Ian, Thanks - I'm glad we can agree to disagree on this one. Seriously I am impressed with the range of events you have planned for Moira. We had considered several of these over the years including the high jump or scale but when we discussed it we thought it was simpler to vary the racing and the show. You have gone the other way and have given a great choice of events for people with their dogs. I applaud that. And between the two events terrier, lurcher and whippet owners have almost literally ' the best of all worlds'. Albert
  3. Ian, My post was a bit 'tongue in cheek'! And it wasn't aimed at you personally or your organisation of the terrier & lurcher events at Moira - as I said before I have a genuine admiration for the number of different events you are running at Moira. I appreciate that you personally haven't said your events are bigger & better than anyone else's but I suggest you take a look at the Moira NI countryside festival website and tweets ( NUMEROUS) about the terriers & lurchers and you will see some, what I would say, apparently misleading comparisons and claims being mad
  4. DBs, I am perfectly entitled to give my opinion on the Mourne Show - as I said went last year for the first time and was impressed by the organisation that went into it, the efficient way judging and racing were carried out and the people I met. I even had some good craic with some of the guys I had 'crossed swords' with on the forums. Of course I give credit to Matt(s) for the work they put in on the shows and to the Lees from Rosscrea for the excellent way they ran the racing at Birr and stewarded the show rings. I NEVER claim credit for anyone elses' work and I admire and I am n
  5. Tullyeyed, Good to hear that the Gilford Club are getting some investment from the Norther Ireland Countryside Festival organisers towards what is an ambitious Terrier & Lurcher programme. I am genuinely looking forward to seeing the wide range of events at Moira. It is good to see that our investment in the Terriers, Whippers and Lurchers has stimulated better investment in prizes at Moira. With a bit of luck the Gilford Club might get the Fair organisers to match the prize & trophy fund at Ballywalter ( 5th & 6th May) and with a bigger push might come someway toward
  6. Yes this would appear ONLY the second time he has praised a show or person. BUT in this case it is true - good show/good organiser.
  7. As far as I am aware under the UK & Irish justice system a person is innocent until proven guilty. I think it is appalling to bandy names about on the forum as such things can spread like wildfire and even friends can view each other with suspicion. It is not in the interests of the terrier, lurcher and indeed countrysports communities to turn inwards on themselves. My personal position is that I suport all legal sports, I don't like to see anything done that causes unecessary cruelty to any animal. For as long as I can remember I have been a dog lover and certainly could not support
  8. Due to a helpful suggestion that our Great Game Fairs of Ireland appeared to have focused more on lurchers than terriers with our prestigious Master Mc Grath Challenge, Five Nations International Lurcher Championships and the Philip Lawton's Directors Challenge for Novice Dogs - we have acquired two prestigious UK terrier qualifiers for Ballywalter and Shanes Castle Fairs. AND of course our terrier prizes at Ballywalter are unrivalled in Ireland except for Shanes Castle and Birr Castle events. The qualifier is for the National Working Terrier Federation Championship 2012
  9. Hessy, Thanks for your suggestion. We are delighted to announce that our Terrier events at Ballywalter & Shanes Castle are now qualifiers for arguably one of the most prestigious UK Championships of all : National Working Terrier Federation Championship Qualifiers 2012 Both Ch and Reserve Ch Terrier Qualify This year’s Championship Show will be held at the ever popular Warwickshire & West Midlands Game Fair, at its NEW VENUE of Arbury Hall, Arbury Park, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV10 7P on Bank Holiday Sunday 26th August 2012.
  10. Yes, As we changed from the initial idea of having the Novice for Shanes Castle pre qualified in order to give more people an opportunity to compete we have decided as the only 'pre qualifier' that you will go through to the second round in your classification. From then on its up to the dog.
  11. Terrier ,Lurchers, Whippets and other sporting dogs take pride of place on the U105 web site for our 'are you game for a great time competition/' Frank Mitchell is hosting the U105 radio competition this week for tickets and other Ballywalter Game Fair prizes http://www.u105.com/...px?comp_id=7180
  12. Fiona, We have had quite a few people ask us this and after a great deal of discussion amongst the group we have decided that certainly for Ballywalter we will go with the published qualifying criterion that the dog must NOT have won any race. So on that basis your dog would be ineligible. BUT we are willing to listen to views on this for Shanes and Birr 2012. We certainly don't want to discourage people entering puppy races. Look forward to seeing you there. Albert
  13. Hessy, Not a problem for next year I will put that on our list of things to do!
  14. We focused on the terriers two years ago We had a 'work in progress' this year but put it back for various reasons but plan to focus more on the terriers for next year. We have had qualifiers for the CW for several years but very few people went to compete. In fact that was one of the reasons we decided to try to bring International events here. We work closely with CW and would be happy to seek qualifiers if people want to use them. However if you look at the prizes for Ballywalter the terriers are well looked after AND wait until you see what we have for the terriers at our 25t
  15. I hope so too- you seem enthusiastic and I always have a lot of time for people who are passionate about their sports.

  19. CG, Now you are way too modest - I am sure you would scrub up really well! AND wouldn't it be a great bit of publicity for the terrier & lurcher fraternity to have a finalist who works their dogs!!!! Entry details below: http://evouchuk.ebiquity.com/t?6D75669881713268&newssoc=1
  20. The Great Game Fairs of Ireland host a beauty contest with a difference : In association with the Sunday Life Newspaper - Ni's main Sunday newspaper, the Great Game Fairs of Ireland are searching for 'Miss Countrylifestyle 2012'. 21. Well done Fiona - glad we could help. Can you make sure you get qualifiers to complete and return their forms to me as soon as possible in order that they can get their passes etc . Albert

  24. Skinny, Thanks for your support but I am taking a number of soundings before we embark on setting up a 'Dog License camp' outside each of the Councils! It concerns me slightly that there are a number of petitions going in England to bring back the dog license with, in my view, the misguided idea that this will bring about more responsible dog ownership. The NI experience would appear to prove this wrong. But it does show that there would not be universal support amongst dog owners for abolishing the dog license. I have to say what irritated me most over this matter is that this i
