  1. Flash, This is a difficult one. It must be disappointing to prepare your dog only to have its chance ruined by another dog. As you know this happens in greyhound racing and there is no re run. But you have another chance at very good prizes in our 'Golden' 50th Fair at Shanes Castle on the 7th & 8th July. Albertj ALBERT WHY CANT YOU MAKE A LIST OF THESE DOGS AND REFUSE THEM ENTRY, MY YOUNG BITCH HAS TO GO TO THE VETS THIS MORNING ONE OF THEM FIGHTING GREYHOUND FROM THE SOUTH NEAR KILLED,ATTACKED HER BOWLED HER OVER, WHEN SHE WAS RUNNING BRILLANT AND ONE OF THE FEW CHASING

  3. What a dreadful example to set to a young enthusiast. With top prizes only bettered in Ireland by Shanes or Birr, a top terrier judge brought in from England - what on earth could you see wrong with that? I would suspect its because you didn't have the balls to enter or you entered and didn't win. . Young Man too his beating like a 'man' when he must have been very disappointed when his dog was pipped in the last few yards by a very fast little terrier with an amazing final kick. I think he could teach many about sportsmanship and I hope he continues to enjoy his dog and competing. Yo
  4. Which 'non ped' was that? the one that won the whippet racing Well that one is down to me. Matt asked me to decide on whether three dogs could run in the purebred whippet race. Short of DNA testing or a knowledge of the breeding this is a thankless and almost impossible test. I made it on the basis of : 1. I have judged whippets at KC shows in BIS and variety classes. 2. I had been toying with getting a whippet and I have been watching them at both types of shows. 3. Two I felt were obvious decisions the third was marginal. As I said to the owner if I was judging whippets I would
  5. Well done - as I said earlier from outside the ring - always a poor place to judge from - I liked the red dog. Really smart looking terrier in great condition. All three dogs in the final were a credit to their owner.
  6. I agree some nice terriers - including a little flyer that won the racing and a chunky one owned by no other than'Young Man'. Delighted to meet this young , very sensible enthusiast and I look forward to seeing him at future shows. Pleased to find time in a busy day to chat to some at the ring side and have a small side bet with Tully and another guy on the BIS. The other guy won! as 'ringside judges' Tully and I were both wrong - I went for the red , he the black and the judge and the winner of the bet went for the Jack Russell. Kieran chose a top whippet, I was impressed with Ros
  7. Great day although long day today at Ballywalter. Fortunate I don't need much sleep as I had to be up at 4.30 to get my dogs out to travel to the site for 6.40. Ground in great condition and the Glenbank Club ran a really tidy exhibition of terrier, whippet and other racing in the main arena. Well Done Matts. 16. YM, Since Shanes Castle is the 50th Game Fair that I have organised since I launched a sustainable Irish Game Fair in 1979 AND it is the 25th anniversary of the launch of the All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships we will be celebrating both with what should be a terrier, whippet & lurcher weekend to be remembered. So we thought we would bring UK judges across BUT as I have always said we should have both UK & Irish judges at our events and I am very satisfied that our Irish judges at Ballywalter will do a very good job and we shall in future be using a mix of Irish &
  17. i will i need to know is he the same judge as the judge at the annaghmore raceway ? [fiona's show] LMAO.....naw kid.... this man actually works terriers thats good he dident like my dog Well different judges/different days. But Barrie is a top UK judge and this is the first time he has judged in Ireland. You will get a fair opinion on your dog. For Shanes Castle we have a Scottish judge who has never judged in Ireland. Albertj
  18. YM, Looking forward to meeting you. Please come and say hello. Barrie will be embarased by this but whatever the outcome of the terrier show you can say you have shown under one of the top terrier men in these islands and a true legend in working terriers. Albert

  21. Preparations are well under way for Ballywalter with the House and grounds in great order. This is one of the few Game Fairs anywhere where the house, lawns and yard are part of the fair. To my mind this is what a Game Fair venue should look like with country sports people of all ages, classes and creeds coming together to celebrate our great sporting history and traditions. Falconry , game displays on the front lawn, Fly casting on the lower lawn , vintage cars and carriages outside the house and the Flavour Food Festival in the yard. Also in the yard is a kids painting area and a huge
  22. Ian, My conversation with Dogs Balls on this thread is finished. Best of luck with your event - I hope to see you there as I am genuinely interested in the range of events you have - although I don't see us copying them as they will need a lot of organising! As I have said the two events are different and run differently giving people choice. If I was a terrier, whippet or lucher competitor I would choose to go to both! Albertj
