Granted decent weather our objective is to make this year's event the best Irish Game Fair ever. We have kept a lot of it under wraps because it is funny how other events don't appear to be able to innovate and try to copy our ideas and we want to make this our 50th fair quite special. We are really building up the attractions and already have more stands booked than last year and about 5/6 new applications coming in per day plus new offers of prizes - 5 major new prizes today! We have very much concentrated on putting additional funding into country sports , country lifestyle an

Ireland Moira Gamefair High Jump
AlbertJ replied to Wetnoseman's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
This is actually one of the best discussions I have seen on this forum where both sides make good points. I had hoped to see this event at Moira - not to copy it - I hasten to add we applaud events which add new features and new competitions rather than try to copy them. And I did think it was good for the terrier & lurcher fraternity that Ian introduced a range of new events at Moira. However I too was surprised there was not a better landing area for the dogs and Bluebell's excellent photograph of the black dog coming down illustrates that a dog could have been injured . Some dogs a -
YM, Amongst the very many new attractions we have at Shanes Castle, on the 7th & 8th July, my 50th Game Fair since I brought the concept to Ireland, ee have something really special for terrier racers and enthusuasts never seen in Ireland before. BUT this will be revealed when we put up our new web site next week.

Ireland Last Opportunity for Qualifiers For Irish Game Fairs
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Should also have said - people who have dogs qualified NEED to return their registration forms ASAP in order to get their Fair tickets and activate their magazine subscriptions. -
We have been asked to consider other shows for qualifiers for the Master Mc Grath Challenge ( racing- two to qualify from each show) to take place on the 7th July at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle AND the Five Nations International Lurcher Championships ( Show Champion to qualify) at Birr Castle on the 26th August. I will take applications up to Friday of next week after that the competitions are closed. Email me on irishgamefair@btinternet.com

Thanks to all of the people who pmed me/emailed me making a case for puppy race winners to be eligible to race in the NOVICE CHALLENGE. There was the argument put that they had just wanted to try the pup out and it 'happened' to win. However if the pup was good enough to win it has probably been good enough to progress and so we don't feel it is in the spirit of what we envisaged for this race i.e taking the 'elite' dogs out of this particular series of races to encourage more people to 'have a go'. so sorry our ruling on this stands. As it stands winners of any race are ineligible to comp

Thanks for commenting albeit a bit 'tongue in cheek'. Seriously it is easy to allege, difficult to prove either way - especially with 7/8 or 15/16 greyhound crosses. But I think its funny how few people object to dogs that look like greyhounds but that don't win! A new race might help reduce cheating, if it does exist, help stop wilder allegations and give more opportunities for people to compete and have a bit of fun with their dogs.

Ireland MOURNE LURCHER AND TERRIER CHARITY SHOW 2012
AlbertJ replied to tango's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Tommy, They were no losers in the digging. Great entertainment and one of the highlights of the show - well done to Tango for coming up with the idea and we were delighted to support this Championship at Mourne and to host the final at the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle. Albertj -
WNM, We are currently finalising our prize funds for all our competitions at Shanes Castle and they will be announced next week when our 2012 web site goes live with all of the details of our very special 50th Irish game or country fair. However we have had quite a few enquiries, including when I was at the Mourne Show, about whether the winners of puppy races are eligible for the new Novice Racing Challenge and I wanted to make it clear that we have decided that the concept of this challenge was that winners of any races are NOT eligible. So regrettably winners of puppy races are

Ireland MOURNE LURCHER AND TERRIER CHARITY SHOW 2012
AlbertJ replied to appleblossom's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Tommy, Thanks for your feedback - I am always willing to listen to constructive advice. Albertj -
Please note the Director's NOVICE RACING Challenge - heats and Final at the Irish Game Fair on Saturday 7th July is ONLY OPEN to lurchers which HAVE NOT WON a race. We have been asked does this rule out winners of puppy races and we have ruled that for 2012 it does. The one exception to this is Kirsty Harpur's dog which won the first novice qualifying race at Birr before we changed the rules on qualifying. It will get a bye into the second round in its class BUT only after having to do a solo spin. The good news is that my fellow Director, Philip Lawton, on whose behalf I volunteere

Ireland MOURNE LURCHER AND TERRIER CHARITY SHOW 2012
AlbertJ replied to appleblossom's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
You captured the atmosphere really well and many people who didn't make it to the show will enjoy reading your report and almost feel they were there. As you may know we try to give support to as many events as we can and were delighted to both sponsor and acquire some sponsorship for this show because Kieran works hard at it and charities such as mountain rescue and a cancer charity benefit. For all of us who love the mountains it is reassuring that guys are prepared to give of their time and knowledge to help others in distress and they deserve our fullest support. Ireland MOURNE LURCHER AND TERRIER CHARITY SHOW 2012
AlbertJ replied to tango's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Gedro, Yes a very pleasant day out with great weather and great scenery which took me back to when we had a cottage in the area and I was fit enough to think nothing of walking over the hills opposite! Sorry didn't get a chance to see the racing and Young Man's dog running again. But when watching the whippet class judging thought the whippet absolutely stood out. The digging was a great success as usual and so tight that I felt all were 'winners' and will get tickets for both Shanes and Birr. Well done Tango and your team for delivering a great relaxing day out for so many people -
Going through Ballywalter photos and came across this one of a 'flying machine'!

Ireland Ballywalter Game Fair Racing Results
AlbertJ posted a topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Thanks to Margaret Mc Stay for putting up the Showing Results and my apologies for delay in putting up these racing results. My congratulations to all who ran in the various races and showed their dogs and the sporting manner in which most people accepted the results. The Novice racing was a big success and we look forward to the new Novice Championships at Shanes Castle on Saturday 7th July being a huge success. Only the first complaint will cost £20 - if four or five people want to club together it makes it simple to do and if the complaint is upheld the £20 is returned. If it is not upheld then it is forfeited and I will personally donate it to a cancer charity. The objective of the exercise is to have and deal with serious complaints by people who were there and saw the incident and prevent others from jumping on the band waggon and moaning and whingeing on the internet about alleged incidents that they may not even have seen. I will post the results when I get through a mountain of paperwork r

What a charming turn of phrase you have - don't you know that a failure to communicate without abuse is a true sign of a 'tit' or a 'dick'! I have gone on record as saying I think the lads running Moira have put together an imaginative programme and I will be there to see it. They have chosen to go for a wide range of events whereas we have gone for fewer more internationally orientated events with better prize money. I should have thought that events giving different people different choice would be welcomed by all. My point was that virtually the only favourable things you have said

An interesting point of view - HANDS UP ALL OF THE TERRIER, WHIPPET & LURCHER competitors who don't like a good prize fund and prize money? I must have got it totally wrong in persuading my colleagues to treat TL&W enthusiasts the same as other country sports competitors such as clay pigeon, gundog and anglers and let them compete INSIDE the fair and to put an investment of several thousands of pounds of our money into giving them a similar prize fund to other sports in terms of good trophies and prize money. Now if you want us to reduce the prize funds to equivalent to Moira the

Are you for for real! A similar system applies in KC shows - if you want to lodge an objection you lodge a fee which is returned if your complaint is upheld AND Forfeit if it is not. If your complaint is genuine it would not be buying anyone a dinner! . Easy to complain and make allegations and what is even funnier lots of the people who make allegations on this forum were not even at the events they complain about. At least this system will filter out the people who do not have the balls to make a complaint except behind an alias and who whinge for weeks afterwards on the internet! I

Ballywalter is now over and against a backdrop of economic doom and gloom and uncertain weather, the event took another step forward in terms of number & quality of exhibitors and overall attendance. Overall I thought our terrier, lurcher and whippet judges did a good job. Now we move on to Shanes Castle on the 7th & 8th July for our 25th All Ireland Terrier, Whippet & Lurcher championships ( show & racing) and our Master McGrath & Novice Challenges. Racing will be on Saturday and Showing Sunday. The fair is also very special to me as it is my 50th Fairs since I brought th

Ireland ballywalter cheating
AlbertJ replied to Wetnoseman's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
A very sensible post. In my opinion with the recent TV series on badger baiting which went nowhere except to associate that digging led to badgers ( which people love because of their very good PR image!) and dogs ( which again people love - see the result in BGOT) being serously hurt PLUS THE FACT THAT hunts Are being prosecuted, I can see a move to ban hunting with dogs. I have done my bit on the PR front to promote responsible hunting with hunts and terriers & lurchers being featured in our press receptions, PR and at our events BUT a great deal of the positives have been nullified b -
