  1. Sam, Thanks it was my most challenging show I have ever run and possibly one of the most challenging game fairs to have ever been run in that we had at least three weeks of bad weather nefore it - in fact one more than the Scottish Fair which had to cancel. My team was magnificent - I thought up the ideas for almost totally dofferent layouts and procedures and they put them into operation. Sorry didn't get to meet you but I too was involved in the car parks making sure everyone got in and out in good order. And overall the fair was a huge success. Albert
  2. Flash, Over the years we have had some allegations regarding cheating in the clay pigeon shooting with regards to classification - in fact quite similar to the matter you raised. I simply took a deposit to ensure the person making the complaint had a genuine grievance and investigated it. Of those I remember two were found that the person making the complaint did not have a genuine grievance; two were cases where nothing could be proved - good arguments for why the person thought he shot in the correct class and one where he held his hands up. I have seen a similar system worked successful
  3. Flash, We were criricised on this forum about the prizes for the lurchers and terriers being much poorer than the other sports and so I reacted by bringing them up to a similar level and giving terriers, lurchers and whippets equal status and a similar profile to other sports at our fairs. Believe you me we could have saved several thousands of pounds by not doing this. Unlike other events we put a lot of money back into prizes ourselves as well as seeking good sponsorship. In my opinion it is not the prize value - do we get cheating in clays, gundogs etc - NO! Because for these spo
  4. We had an objection system in place and a race for pure greyhounds. There were no objections on the day. Apart from that it is up to the honesty of the owner.
  5. I know it's some time since you were at Shanes. It's a pity that you didn't get a chance to see the fair at its best in sunshine but I think you will have found it a good improvement on your previous visit. Albert
  6. I should like to thank all three of our judges for coming the whole way from Scotland to judge at the 25th All Ireland Championship. As they have stated they were honoured to be invited in an honorary capacity . No one was paid - not even Derek for volunteering to put on an excellent main arena display. All they received was an excellent hamper sponsored by Victor Kitson of Springwell Sheep Cheeses. Judging is a matter of opinion and the judge gives his or her opinion on the day. Your own opinion of your dog will probably differ from his - especially if you don't win or be placed but both
  7. Neil, Sorry didn't get a chance to get down to the terrier & lurcher ring until you had gone. As you can guess I was rather tied up helping getting a fairly massive crowd into the car parks in slightly wet conditions BUT as usual the sandy car parks of Shanes held up well and no tow outs and people could not believe how good the main site remained. As we in the team say ' Whether the weather be good or whether the weather be bad - the Great Game Fairs of ireland come through! Delighted to hear you did good business - now on to Birr. Albert
  8.    Didn't need to - ground conditions excellent - Shanes was dry yesterday except for a bit of drizzle the first hour. Both fields are based on sand from the lough that's where the water goes.
  9. Ian, Good to see you again Ian and I think the Matts did a good job overall. I would like to thank the terrier, lurcher & whippet owners for a great turnout and their sportsmanship. We have had dire weather - the worst run up to any Game Fair I have ever staged and possibly the worst ever for any game fair anywhere. Our team has worked hard to keep the fair on track and when I was giving the dogs a run this morning at 5.30 I was fearful of the outcome because of the torrential rain that was still falling. I would like to than sportsmen and women North & South for turning out a
  10. no bother sound man for the reply!!!!!! Tommy, What shows did you win at? Email me a number to call you to irishgamefair@btinternet.com Albert
  11. Just left the site basking in bright sunshine. Best show ever this year in terns of stands, competitions and prizes. Shame if we can't have the best weather to enjoy it. Albert
  12. Well done to Tango and probably the back up team of ladies without who NOTHING is possible!
  13. Thanks Ian - I hope the weather picks up for your caravanning!
  14. Charraf, Don't forget to promote the fact that you have one of the last qualifiers for the Five Nations Championship at Birr Castle - your Champion Lurcher qualifies plus gets a year's subscription to Irish Countrysports & Country Life, plus tickets for Birr and €50 in expenses when they turn up at Birr. 15. I think a big thank you must go to Stop End for his energy & enthusiasm in helping get this going and having the 'grace' to fall in behind the new chairman. Also to Barry Wade for his advice. I had some concerns about the IWTF seeking to run before they could walk but I have been mightily impressed at the progress it has made very quickly. We are delighted to facilitate you at the fairs and to help with your fundraising for the battles that will undoubtedly lie ahead. Albertj
  16. Derek. Dreadfully sorry to hear Scone is cancelled my favourite show of the year . Everything you could want and you can get round it in a day. due to dates before ours this year this is the first year I have missed it since it started - I usually start my Scottish holiday at it after Shanes. Started set up at Shanes today - ground conditions good but we are small enough to be able to change layout to our 'wet weather plan'. I actuallygot sun burnt today in amongst a few heavy showers. Looking forward to seeing you next w/e and for those disappointed in missing Scone why not get to
  17. For any of you wondering about weather at Shanes Castle I am delighted to report that I got sun burned today as we started 'set up'. Everytime I put on my 'Wet Weather Fair 'coat it was bright sunshine and of course when I had it off and at the other end of the field it came on showers! Ground conditions are good - Shanes has its own micro climate and the field is basically sand from the lough and drains well. However we have put our wet weather plans into operation with a swift change of layout to minimise traffic on the ground. As you all know I like to keep aisles good for the publi
  18. Thanks - the trophies look small beside the boxes but they are fairly substantial.
  19. Just to show I do take notice of suggestions for prizes and I think you will find that we have put together a good mix of cash, practical prizes and tasteful trophies for the show. Albertj
