  1. Rocko, I am sorry but you have it completely wrong - the Terrier & Lurchers at Moira were outside the main fair whereas at Birr they were inside the fair in the same area as the clays - both located in the best areas for them within the fair. There were trade stands and facilities in the same field and this was a short walk in beautiful gardens to the Angling Row. Huge difference . And of course day I say the facilities for the terriers & lurchers at Birr were superior to those at Moira.
  2. That is how I see it. The reasons why I continue to run game fairs is to promote and protect all legal country sports. I am in the happy position that I do not need to take a salary from the fairs and that is why we invest the money necessary to make them successful first and profitable secondly. Our team all feel similarly about our fairs which is why we put back more into prize funds than any other organising team either here or in the UK. We have concentrated on giving value for money through ticket offers such as if you purchased a ticket for Ballywalter you got admission to Shanes f
  3. Ian, As I have said before I recognise you do a good job and the events you organise are different to ours give people choice. I didn't knock your terrier & lurcher events I simply answered a question about stands which mentioned our fair - perhaps I should have opened up another thread for this. The best of luck with your event at Borris and on the positive side my post gave you a bit of traffic! Albert
  4. Your choice and it is always good to have a choice provided. If you think it is better for terriers, lurchers and whippets not to be part of the fair like the other sports such as shooting, angling etc then that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. BUT so long as we have terriers, llurchers and whippet competitions at our fairs they will be an integral part of them with first class facilities inside, good prize funds, good judges and be part of our PR and advertising. We view the terrier & lurcher fraternity as an integral and normal part of the whole country sports commun
  5. Just putting the finishing touches to the plans for the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr which promises to be one of the best yet in terms of attractions, competitions, prize funds and range of trade stands. The largest sporting organisations in Ireland have pulled out all of the stops to mount their best ever exhibits with the largest organisation the NARGC mounting the largest exhibit they have ever mounted at any event; Countryside Alliance Ireland will also have a major presence as will FISSTA the main salmon fishing association. These will be supported by a host of other organisatio
  6. As I said a guy asked a factual question and I gave a factual answer. What do you not like about that? Do you prefer 'hype' to facts?
  7. Fiona, you have qualified for the Five Nations Final IF you get your registration form in! Albert
  8. This is the fair that was staged at Ballinlough last year and was much smaller than our fair at Birr Castle. Hi Albert This thread was started by myself to promote the Lurcher & Terrier events at Borris and not to be used as compare the gamefairs.com So would you kindly find another way of continuing your "spat" with the organisers of this Game Fair and refrain from using this thread for this reason. Regards Ian Ian, Guy asked a question just giving him a factual answer - best of luck with your event. Albert your being a bit pissy albert i was at both moir
  9. As this is the last qualifier for the Five Nations Lurcher Championships at Birr on the 26th August ( other than the ROI Lurcher Championships at Birr before the FN Final) can you contact me by 'phone Poppy on the Saturday night so that the winner gets their Birr tickets. Albertj

  12. The Champion Lurcher Also qualifies for the Irish Countrysports and Country Life Five Nations Lurcher Championships at the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle on the 26th August. Heat winner gets 4 tickets for Birr plus a year's subscription to the Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine plus €50 expenses when they turn up at Birr to compete for a prize fund to the winner of €500 plus a Barbour Coat and other prizes.
  13. Its the biggest show in Ireland, with the best prizes by fair and the best facilities for terrier, lurcher & whippet owners INSIDE the fair. We had the IWTF there to help create a defence for our sports and we involve terrier & lurcher people in our PR and press events. We put together a good range of judges with usually a mix of local and UK judges. And still people bitch including ironically PEOPLE WHO WERE NOT THERE! Can you understand why my colleagues suggest that we should think about investing more in the other sports? If one analyses the complaints they are mostly based o
  14. Was good talking with you earlier Sammy. You can't half tell that you were so thrilled with so many genuine lurcher and terrier folk coming over to spend some time with the children to have a joke and a laugh with them and see their rossettes. I guess we all at times need to open our eyes and see that there were so many good and positive things taking place over the weekend. Thanks for doing line judge again for the Master McGrath and your comments here. I don't know why many people come on to this forum to criticise rather than praise - certainly it seems to prove the old adage 'bad ne
  15. Thanks Margaret, Whatever the weather we try to deliver a show that people enjoy. With three weeks of almost constant rain this was our most challenging yet and with shows such as the Scottish Game Fair and now the Great Yorkshire Show being cancelled there were many rumours that our event was to be cancelled. But through the inherent strengths of the venue, our wet weather plans being implemented and the experience and commitment of our team we managed to deliver one of our best fairs ever. Yes there were problems but the good humour of the crowd in queueing to get in and putting their wet w
  16. Derek, We normally cut the grass but with the weather forecasted and accurate we did not risk it. At Ballywalter the lurcher track and rings were cut twice and rolled four times. Not quite like a billiard table but as good as we could make it. Albert
  17. LF, Thanks - I am pleased that so many of the people who turned out in poor weather ( especially Sunday) have taken the time to contact me and thank me. My team were fantastic as were the two guys from the estate who helped us put in stoned gateways and additional roadways and the marquee contractors who helped us keep the ground good for the public on Sunday. I think the only tow out that I heard about was the hound lorry! I had hoped for glorious weather for our 50th Fair but in some ways I was more proud that we kept the show going when other events were cancelling all around us and we

  19. Sammy, Please thank the Forest Lodge Centre for the Shield. I am pleased the kids enjoyed themselves. Weather wasn't great but it was a delight to see families pull on their coats and wellingtons to get on with it and enjoy the day. Albert
  20. I am delighted to say that in spite of the possibly the worst weather in the three weeks before the fair that any game fair has had to face we delivered one of the best ever Irish Game Fairs ever. Crowds were excellent in fact the massive crowd that turned out on Sunday was truly humbling. We had an excellent mix of traders many of whom have had a disastrous summer with fairs and events including the Scottish Fair being cancelled - most did good business and can't wait to get back to the Great Game Fairs of Ireland. Two photos which summed the fair up for me : which I will entitled ' the
  21. Mark, Sorry I missed you on Sunday. I came down to see you and the other IWTF guys after I had got the car park sorted but you had gone. I was delighted to see the IWTF at the show and look forward to seeing you in bIrr. Albertj
  22. Flash, If you deposit your £20 and make a formal complaint we will seek to investigate the breeding of the dogs in question. But you must see that you are impugning the reputation of all who raced unless you make specific claims about dogs and individuals.
  23. I was speaking about the Master McGrath race but I think lesson learned not just for Shanes but all shows for all racing - need at least two judges as it is a onerous and thankless task for one line judge.
