  1. Good to see you and your maes adding a little 'international' flavour to the fair.
  2. Thanks to all who turned out to support the Roscrea Working Dog Club event at the fair. A good crowd for the racing and a huge lurcher entry for the irrespressible Nigel Quinn who was judging non stop for over 3.5 hours. Terriers judged by John Hendrick had a decent entry, as did whippets under Tracie Crosbie. Most welcome. as everyone has commented about on facebook, was the fantastic family atmosphere that prevailed and the real sportsmanship displayed. The terrier entry was a little affected by rumours being spread that the ISPCA were going to be present at the fair again. As we exp

It might surprise some people on this forum entitled GAME FAIRS is that is exactly what we do - WE ORGANISE GAME FAIRS, not just simply Terrier, Whippet and Lurcher shows and have been organising Game Fairs ( including terrier and lurcher shows) for 39 years and 63 events. In fact Edwin ran one of the first major terrier & lurcher events in ireland in 1979. Our fairs concentrate on bringing all of the main countrysports representation organ

  19. We were delighted to help sponsor two successful teams at the weekend. ANGLING : The Tafi Ulster junior angling team became interprovincial champions. We don't usually allow bucket collections at the fair but these very polite young men needed £1,000 for their challenge. They reached this through the donations from our patrons and a top up from Bobby Bryans and ourselves. GUNDOGS : We also joined up with Red Mills to sponsor the Irish gundog team at the Scottish Game Fair. Top dog,top retriever team and 2nd overall -well done guys! Although our sponsorship budget is limited it is
  20. ONCE AGAIN a SILLY and totally INACCURATE POST by SKIP. LIKE ALL OF HIS ALLEGATIONS TOTALLY FALSE. The Scottish Terrier Display team who were doing demos in the two arenas and two of whom judged as one of three judges in each of the Five Nations Terrier & Whippet Championships were invited to the event by the GGF of I team. As such we looked after their accommodation and they were accommodated in a Guest House in Crumlin.
  21. The Master Mc Grath Challenge the first leg of our twin All Ireland lurcher racing challenges produced a great finish and a great example of sportsmanship by the Smith family. As David Martin, manager of Brownlow House, the home of Lord Lurgan, stated on the Frank Mitchell Show, there is a neat link to the Shanes Castle Fair in that my co-founder of the fair, Major William Brownlow, was a member of the Brownlow family from Lurgan, and of course related to McGrath's owner,Lord Lurgan. Now its on to Birr and the Mick The Miller Challenge Final which has the support of the Mick The Miller com
  22. Well the Shanes Castle Fair is over with record crowds of countrysports enthusiasts on both days. Great gundog events with a new cocker event and I personally was delighted that the individual international retriever event was won by a golden retriever. The clayshooting and angling competitions too were excellent. Now this is supposed to be a Game Fair thread but do you see any examples of poor sportmanship on here from gundog enthusiasts, shooters and anglers? They too compete for good prizes and a large number of them are personal friends but they accept the judges decisions with gr
