Ireland RISE to stage RALLY at BIRR GAME FAIR
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Sam, Thanks and hopefully we will get a chance to meet at last at Birr. I think it is a great opportunity for a show of the strength of feeling there is in the country for defending our country sports and the rural way of life in order that future generations can gain the enjoyment that we have had from our sports and the time we spend in the countryside. RURAL IRELAND SAYS ENOUGH! RISE at the Irish Game and Country Fair, Birr Castle, 25th & 26th August 2012 RISE (Rural Ireland Says Enough!), will be very much in evidence at the forthcoming Irish Game and Country Fair in Birr Castle on 25th and 26th August. At 1.15pm on Sunday 26th, a large contingent of RISE supporters from the various organisations will assemble inside the main entrance to the Castle and will be led to the main arena where a short address will be made by RISE spokesperson, Philip Donnelly of the Irish Masters of Beagles Ass -
Ireland whats wrong with irish shows?

WDS, I have to admit WDS when I asked Tango who was the tall, well built strking and sartorially elegant chap judging at his show a couple of years ago I wasn't surprised to hear it was you. I had heard that unlike most of the people who complain on this forum who often have fair looking dogs ( better looking than themselves!) you had ugly dogs but cut a dash yourself! I look forward to seeing you looking resplendent at Birr. Albertj PS I am honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as yourself! -

Ireland Prize Structure at Birr Game Fair
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Why have people such a fascination with food & drink? We are trying to put on the best shows with the best prize structures in ireland and equivalent to the best in the Uk and we get quibbles over the price of food & drinks.Perhaps it is a 'back handed compliment' in that there is little else to criticise about ourr events! Our caterers cater at a huge number of events throughout the country and their prices are similar to other event caterers at other events - in my opinion they do a very good job providing a good range of food at fair prices and provide reasonable facilities. Great prizes , good range of opportunities, fantastic range of good quality stands in place with great bargains and supposed country sports enthusiasts want to talk about the cost of food & drink! We consider food and drink prices at our events are good value and much less expensive than at most outdoor events BUT if you really object to paying reasonable prices why not bring a sandwich! -

Addition to prizes : Premier Event Catering good sponsors at all of our shows have sponsored four Bulldog spades for the winning team and runners up at the digging competition and one of their superb burgers and a drink ( normally £5) for each of the competitors who finish! -

WNM, As I said before we have similar prizes for the gundogs and much larger for the clay pigeon shooting - together with the club running the shoot we have managed to put up/acquire sponsorship of c €15,000 for the shooting. Two points I want to make about this : 1.Apart from the money we invest back into the competitions ourselves we can get sponsorship for clays because THERE IS NO HASSLE Or SLANGING INVOLVED AFTERWARDS. ANY DISPUTES ARE HANDLED THERE AND THEN ON THE DAY AND NOT RAKED OVER FOR WEEKS AFTERWARDS! Would you as a sponsor want to have your products associated with suc -

From what you have seen on the forum being a line judge could be very dangerous work! the meal could have turned out very expensive to your health! -

You could always butter a few baps and bring your own picnic.......? youd need to if its anything like shanes.20 odd quid 2 burgers 1 chip n 2 coke.. I have spoken to the caterer and the cost of the meal quoted for 2 burgers 1 chip and 2 cokes would have been £13.00. That included the caterer providing a marquee with tables and chairs for people to sit in if it rained and did it rain on the Sunday! The burgers and chips were excellent and in my opinion fair value for money especially when the tentage was included. But as LF says you do have the option of bringing a sandwich. it wa -

WNM As far as I know there was no prize money at Camlough so this would tend to knock your theory on the head And when we put up good prize money for gundogs, angling and clays we don't have this srt of trouble. Albertj -

The food at Birr is well priced - and has excellent choice both on the field and in the courtyard cafe where any day of the week you can see it filled with visitors and townspeople who walk into it for their lunch. -
Ireland Lawerencetown Show, Cancelled
AlbertJ replied to dessie m's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Isn't it an interesting commentary on contributors to this forum that a show is cancelled and it attracts several thousand visits and a lot insults being thrown whereas when I put up the good news of one of the best prize structures for any show in Ireland it gets views in the 10s rather than thousands. BAD NEWS CERTAINLY TRAVELS FASTER & FURTHER ON THIS FORUM THAN GOOD NEWS! -

Sorry to disagree with your quote of what Wetherbys told you but while ideally one would have to have both parents and dog's DNA - there are other tests which could be relevant. Plus I cannot see anyone with a pure bred greyhound taking a chance in a test which could prove they were deliberately cheating. -

AlbertJ replied to dessie m's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Darren, A sensible suggestion - you can get a DNA test done for c £50. How's this for an idea to stop this nonsense over racing - I will up the cost of an objection on a dog's breeding to £50 to cover the cost of a test. If the test shows that the dog is pure greyhound then the objector gets the £50 back plus £25 from me. If the dog is shown to have other bloodlines then the owner gets the £25 and the satisfaction of knowing they have been vindicated. -

Tommy, We are working hard to take our fairs up to the standard of the best UK ones - albeit a bit smaller and more manageable AND definitely a lot more flexible in the face of bad weather. We had no end of compliments from Uk traders and guests over our preparation for and handling of the fair at Shanes Castle in truly atrocious weather conditions - only one vehicle needed towed out - the hound lorry! In spite of claims to the contrary the Great Game Fairs of Ireland are undoubtedly Ireland's premier game or country fairs and for our last game fair of the seaon at Birr Castle, Co Offaly we have pulled out all of the stops to make it the best of the year. In order to avoid any confusion with smaller events which appear determined to 'tap' into the success of our brands AND because we try not to advertise anything unless it is sure to be there we had held off updating our web site www.irishgameandcountryfair.com until today. You will see that in terms of competitions, prize funds,

Robert, Agreed - I have a suggestion - let us all come on here on under our own names and put our points of view openly and up front and let us IGNORE or OSTRACISE those who can only peddle abuse from behind an alias. Albertj -

Again these are not the sort of comments that should be put up on a public forum. Allegations such as this are wholly inappropriate when a man is facing legal problems. -
