I have been asked with regards to qualifiers for the Master McGrath Challenge Race at Shanes Castle on the 29th June 2013 and the Five Nations Championships for BOTH Terriers and Lurchers in 2013 at Birr Castle on the 1st September as part of our 'The Gathering' event whether if your dog is runner up to a pre qualified dog can it take its place in the final. we have thought long and hard about this and decided the following : 1. The two Champions from 2012 ( ie Pat Lee and Fiona) are qualified as Champions to defend their titles in 2013. We have also ruled that Paul Reid's dog which was c

Ireland St Hubert's Day Celebrations Abbleyleix
AlbertJ posted a topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Great turnout at the St Hubert's Day celebrations at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel on Saturday 3rd November. The day was hosted by the NARGC and it was great to see country sports people from all interests present to represent their sports. Good to meet the guys from the Irish working Terrier Federation there with their very smart display and we hope to be able to help them where we can as they grow their organisation. -
Thought a new positive thread for this day might be useful. I'm sorry I can't be there as I have a previous commitment at the NARGC's St Hubert Day's Celebrations in Abbeyleix but we have supported the day by putting up some prizes. It is an important day because firstly Tango, his family and team work very hard to put on good events; secondly it is for a very good cause and one that is very close to our family's hearts and thirdly I understand it is a trial run for some the new rules proposed for lurcher racing in Ireland. I wish Tango well for a successful day and hope Margaret &

Ireland roscrea working dog social club dog show 16th sep
AlbertJ replied to shane-1's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Shane, I remember my first introduction to the Roscrea Club was a few years ago when I saw a hand written rather rough roadside poster for one of your events. Next time was when you approached us to run the racing at Birr; then when your team turned out for the press reception at the castle last year - everyone including Lord & Lady Rosse were impressed by your smart turnout in your club shirts. In 2011 you then not only ran the racing well but stewarded the show rings and this year you ran the complete show in difficult conditions. When leaving Birr I saw some very smartly printed -
no albert you do not organise the largest gathering if irish sports people , you cannot in fairness say that , yes the events are large and on par with some, surely the tullamore show would be the largest in ireland , the killag and the tinahealy are on par or larger. stop twisting my words i said i cringe when you use the word largest when it clearly is not. yes albert you do a great job well done. but well done to the many other larger and as big as shows too like tullamore and tinahealy. as for the costs the game fairs in england and wales which i have attended charge £15 on the gate and e

Ireland BIRR CASTLE GAMEFAIR
AlbertJ replied to Wetnoseman's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I know the people who own the field .they said next year anybody wanting to camp.come and ask them .they arent realy worried about 2 bales of hay.so from now on see the organ grinder not the monkey. Ferret Features - wrong again - we rent the field from the person who owns it for the fair and access to the field is through a third party's ground. And without us providing the toilet and security public health will not allow camping at all. In addition because of the idiots who started the fires there are now security/nusiance/insurance implications and when we meet to discuss this we ma -

CH, I am responsible for the promotion of our fairs although as a marketing led organisation we all contribute to the marketing effort wherever and whenever we can. We do not make exaggerated claims about our events we deliver on them - two of them this year at Shanes & Birr against a backdrop of appalling conditions. Did we lose control of our sites - no we did not because of a masssive effort by our team and our sheer professionalism - we plan for bad weather and hope for good not the other way round. . I am proud of our events and even prouder of the team that delivers them - not ju

jimjim, I see you do not distinguish between a COUNTRY/AGRICULTURAL SHOW and a SPECIALIST COUNTRY SPORTS EVENT. They are two different things. I have never stated that we organise the largest COUNTRY EVENT but I do state quite categorically that we organise the TWO LARGEST COUNTRY SPORTS EVENTS in Ireland. And I think if you ask the main country sports organisations - they would agree with me and not you - look at their web sites! We have had proper hound shows at our events on several occasions rather than just some hound classes. We don't have hunt team chases because of the proble

JimJIm, Of course I/we use every opportunity to promote our events - as does every other organiser. That is what good marketing is all about - and that is why we deliver the two largest country sports events in Ireland year after year for over 34 years. Our team are all marketing/promotions focused and we all work hard to get the message out whenever and wherever we can. The sporting organisations recognise that we do a great job in promoting and defending country sports and that we provide a great platform for them to meet their members and make new ones and so do the animal rights peopl

Fair enough - I don't hold grudges and we both seem to want the same things - on that basis I think we can agree to disagree. Albertj
