  1. See its now 8th June - it is a good cause and one that Irene and I have seen at first hand.
  2. Don't mind if I have - I'm delighted to help a good cause like autism and to help prevent illfeeling.
  3. Will call her tomorrow - but Leanne has taken the courageous step of changing her date. I hope both ladies will now support each others shows.
  4. Leanne, It is a pleasure to help out for such a worthwhile charity and may I express my personal admiration for you taking the courageous step of changing your date to facilitate another show. I know lots of good people were involved in an attempt to avoid splitting the lurcher and terrier crowd over this clash of dates - but you had the courage to make the change. I think everyone will give you 100% support for this. You also have our qualifiers for the Five Nations Terrier & Lurcher Championships at the Irish Game & Country fair at Birr on the 1st September as well as puttin
  5. FN, I have to say my colleagues are the ones that deserve the real thanks as they have supported me on this. While they are all involved in some aspects of country sports I am really the only 'dog' person involved - interested in all sorts of dogs for a lifetime. My colleagues have supported me by allowing me to spend OUR money on terrier & lurchers!
  6. I am deeply sorry to hear of a clash of dates with two shows in close geographical proximity on the 1st June and that our qualifiers for the Master mc Grath for Shanes Castle on the 29th June and Five Nations for Birr Castle on the 1st September have been caught up in it. appleblossom has done her best to try to promote ALL of the events by putting up and updating lists of shows. In NI gundogs I co-ordinate a calendar of events to avoid such clashes and clubs as far as possible are allocated their traditional dates - if there is a clash we work it out amicably. For our terrier & lur
  7. Can I give you a little background to how the Master Mc Grath and Five Nations Championships came about and our objectives for them. The Master McGrath - 'Stormy Dog' was in the UK and was beaten in a similar speed test against the clock- some would say he won- and suggested something like this here. I have had an interest in Master McGrath since a boy - and have amassed a lot of material on him including an orginal photograph from which I commissioned the painting to launch the race. The phrase from the song ' I wonder why you left home at all..' went through my mind and I thought
  8. I agreed to give qualifiers to Leanne's show on the basis it was on 2nd June. I had already given Fiona qualifiers for her show on the 1st June. I do not wish to have two qualifying events on the same day so have asked Leanne to sort this matter out with Fiona. I hope they can manage to avoid each others dates altogether but if not they might wish to share the qualifiers. I leave it up to them but Fiona has first claim on the two FN qualifiers and the Maste Mc Grath - if the qualifying races are run under NILRC rules. Albertj
  9. Thanks Mr Scent - we have taken some stick over judges in the past and while in future years we will of course use a mix of UK and Irish judges I felt this year with the IWTF up and running and the NILRC getting going we should display some confidence in our Irish judges and the two organisations. I hope they get good entries.
  10. Hope to see not only the qualifiers for the Five Nations Terrier and Lurcher qualifiers but many more of you across to the irish Game & Country fair at Birr Castle on the 31st August ( Racing) and 1st September ( Show and final Qualifier for the Five Nations) plus the Five Nations Champonships. Special ferry rates available.
  11. Only racing on the Saturday but we will be offering two day tickets for the price of one! Love your Dubliner's video - I was a great fan and have a good collection of their LPs - good collector's item - any offers ?
  12. I have had a couple of queries of judging of the Five Nations Championships. Firstly they are judged in the main arena at Birr on Sunday 1st September. First one the Terriers will take place at 5.00pm sharp. They are judged by three judges judging independently on the basis of a score sheet. No judge sees the other cards and not even the two scrutineers - one of whom usually is the Chairman of the Hunting Association of NI - who total up the cards know how each judge scored. In the event of a tie for Champion or Reserve - the three judges will then come together to decide. The final qualifie
  13. Sam, Thanks - I think it is a well balanced team and as you say it is good to see the organisations starting to build a good public profile and where better - at Shanes and Birr. Albertj
  14. LJ, Traditionally the terrier & lurcher entries have been much higher and that is why we have FN championships. Have considered one for whippets but it depends on entries this year.
  15. I have amended the judges' list for Birr - our third Five Nations Lurcher Judge is Tommy Cullen from Wicklow. I trust everyone will agree we have put a fine list of Irish judges together for our two fairs and I look forward to two great Terrier, Whippet & lurcher events.
  16. My very best wishes for the show - I had hoped to get to this first show but unfortunately with going back into the Golden Retriever Club Chair my presence is required to help at the test at Shanes all day on Saturday and in another important dog club meeting on Sunday. I had hoped for a relaxing weekend. Albertj
  17. I think we have put together a good mix of judges who hopefully will support my mantra that we don't have to bring judges in from the UK to get fair, knowledgeable and unbiased judging!
