Ireland F.a.o. Danny300 And Fakename
AlbertJ replied to king lurcher's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Digger, Fair play to Danny on ' picking up the gauntlet' on behalf of the working dogs and being prepared to put up £500 to go to a good cause if he lost. These arguments arise all the time over 'working' v 'show or racing' and they are divisive at a time when countrysports people need to be united rather than divided. There is a major battle going on over animal rights groups influence on government and thats what we are focusing on. That is why I attempted to turn this challenge into something positive, that could be enjoyed by people like you and me who like to see a challenge and a -
Ireland My Challenge To Nigel And Danny
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Thanks guys - a challenge should always end up with the two guys shaking hands. I have won many rifle shooting; playing chess - for a guy's wages v mine - he lost because he didn't know I was unbeaten in the top leagues in Ireland - but I only took £20 to teach him a leson, Drinking a pint against one of the top brewery execs - cost him £50; Yard of ale - flushed with success with the pint - took this on - almost sick and lost £20; racing cars to a location with the guy giving me a handicap - he won! The challenge caught my imagination but too serious in terms of money. My challenge was a -
While I love a challenge and seeing someone taking it up and on several occasions I have taken challenges up that I probably should not have, I feel the amount of money involved and the dispute over how it is to be run could probably sour relations in the lurcher world. Plus it is obvious that the concept has caught the imagination of many on this forum and many people including me would like to see it. As I have said elsewhere we took a similar gundog challenge and turned it in to a fun event watched by hundreds of people at Shanes Castle and it ultimately formed the basis for our major

LJ - as you say large board, numbered entries and a dog steward to make sure dogs are collected in an area and ready to go once the lure comes back - should really quicken up the racing. Albertj
-
Good point - the organisers always seem to get the blame whereas if the owners werre ready to go in - the only delay is the return of the lure. Might I make a suggestion that I implemented when I was stewarding 'walked up' gundog trials where we had an impatient host who didn't like delays getting dogs in and out of line as the birds ran further and further in front. We had a separate dog steward who was responsible for bringing the next dogs into line. I think this could work well. I know we sometimes had difficulty getting through racing and shows on the one day that is why we split them to

Kieran, Similar thoughts it would appear to my own. My own feeling is that the host(s) of the event and/or the NILRC people who are giving up their time to run the event - often for a charity - should be allowed to run their dogs. The Rosscrea lads at Birr sportingly asked the question and I said of course they could BUT obviously showing is not a good idea because no matter how fair the judges are this could inevitably lead to claims of favouritism. I have run at our own fair and in the top gundog competition but I pre qualified 3rd out of 57 dogs to do so and was rubbish in the final -
Ireland Prizes At Irish Game Fair At Shanes Castle
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
YM - Very practical and pragmatic - although I think you know there will be a trophy for the Terrier Racing! Thats 8-2 for meal. Unless there is a mad rush to go for trophies think we will certainly go for meal for Shanes certainly. Will make a final decision on Sunday night so I can get the web site updated with the final prize list. Albertj -

We are delighted to report our stand base for what we hope will be the largest Irish Game Fair ever is running away ahead of last year and we are close to finalising bookings for our indoor stands. Lurcher Racing including All Ireland Championships over longer course and Master Mc Grath Final over 150 yards on Saturday 29th June. 12.00 noon start. 26th All Ireland Championships Showing on Sunday 30th June 12 noon start. I was delighted to support the NILRC and the good cause for which this show was run. Unfortunately I had another dog club AGM commitment on Sunday so couldn't get. I cannot see why a club member can't run his /her dogs at their own show - there can be no bias or subjective judgement involved. I would be less happy about Club members showing dogs at their own show as it could create criticism of the judges. But can we not give the NILRC a little bit of slack to get the organisation up and running and functioning properly? AlbertJ

Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Calendar Clash
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Delighted this donation is going to a worthwhile charity which we as a family support AND terrier & lurcher owners have two opportunities to qualify for our prestige events AND neither show loses out on a split entry AND I did not have to make a decision on who got the qualifiers. . I look on that as a WIN/WIN/WIN/WIN situation. I was happy to HELP facilitate this but must pay tribute to a lot of good people who were working behind the scenes and to the two ladies involved who I hope can move on from this. AlbertJ -

Ireland Great Game Fairs Of Ireland Judges
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Glad to report that Fiona's and Leanne's shows are now on different dates so two chances now to qualify for the Master Mc Grath and Five Nations Championships on the 1st June at Fiona's and 8th June at Leanne's. Also Shane Lee's Show in June has a qualifier for the Five Nations Terrier Championships only. I haven't fallen out with Shane or the Club - I feel they are one of the best clubs around and we look forward to working with them at Birr but the Rosscrea Club has already had qualifiers for the Master McGrath at Birr and a couple of other Shows and Tommy Cullen who is one of our Five N -
Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Calendar Clash
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
Ladies, The matter would appear to be resolved Fiona has her date as planned and Leanne has moved to another date. They have invited each other to each other's shows - so hopefully the matter is resolved and we can all move on. Delighted that terrier & lurcher owners now have two opportunities to qualify for the Master mc Grath at Shanes Castle and for the Five Nations Terrier & Lurcher Championships at Birr instead of one. We are pleased that we can help the autism cause because of our connection with autism. I tried to call Fiona without success but have left her a message on f -

ok albert , still cant understand how or why it had to be spread all over a public form before i was even inform of any of this, think we all need to draw are horns in here, looks like an attempt at making me look like the bad guy and im clearly not the one who started all this non-sence, and there was a very quick chance of heart and dates when money comes into play!! but sure im sure this will be plain to see!! talk to you tomorrow Fiona Fiona, If you read my first post I DID NOT criticise you - I made it clear that Leanne had been offered qualifiers for the 2nd June not your -
