  1. John, Can you let me have the Champion Lurcher & Terrier contacts for Five Nations. Albert
  2. It was great to have an afternoon off to visit the show. Well done John on a good happy show. Some great dogs and I think fair results - absolutely cracking Champion of Champions Terrier Class. Great to see a good family atmosphere prevail with the ladies beavering away on the food and a number of kids about obviously enjoying the sunshine. Albert
  3. John, Hope to get along what time kick off? Hope its a great success. Albert
  4. Than you Margaret but the real thanks this year must go to 'our team on the ground' who kept the fair on track in pretty awful weather ( especially on the Sunday and Thursday before). They were led by Eddie Dash, who not only was there literally 'Night and Day' , organised and facilitated the carriage driving, liaised with the exhibitors, and still found time to give the Poacher a run as the new gamekeeper. Also to Johnnie McCoy who stepped in again as Arena Director and to the team of four plus Philip Lawton's daughter Catherine who made the new Countrysports in Action Arena a real success
  5. I think everyone would have preferred the money to go directly to the treatment of the dog involved. It is unfortunate that bodies like the USPCA and RSPCA and some of the animal shelters appear to be pursuing an animal rights agenda rather than concentrating on looking after abandoned or distressed animals. I do not see their role is in harassing legitimate sportsmen pursuing legitimate sports. I was delighted to assist in a small way to help redress some of their activities with respect to one sportsman. If whoever ran the collection lets me know I will ensure it gets publicity in Irish Cou
  6. Drop me a mail to irishgamefair@btinternet.com Re the Barbour - never go near that man Smyth no lady is safe from buying a Barbour from him!

  9. A great photo by Derek Laverty of the dogs approaching the finishing line in the Master McGrath final. Look at the back legs of Joey the winner - he was literally flying at the finish to pip Fiona's dog.
  10. Sam, Thank you for bringing these very special kids to our fair and giving them a day out to remember. Another piece of excellent PR for the terrier, lurcher and whippet and country sports world. I know that is not why you bring the kids but it does work for our communityand Irene and I are pleased to facilitate you and them any time. We thank you for bringing them. Three great and classy dogs in the final - your own dog oozes class but I couldn't help, like you, falling for the lurcher - such a very pretty dog but all lurcher!
  11. Delighted to hear your daughter won the obedience competition and with a WHIPPET! Pity she didn't go into the smaller arena and show what can be done. I understand the two guys who did turn up to do some good PR for lurchers and terriers in the small ring did an excellent job and really pleased to see Bri, who took part, go on to be ALL Ireland Lurcher Champion. PR like this is important to demonstrate to the public the 'normality' of the terrier, whippet and lurcher world.
  12. VC - great pics - let 's have them for our web site and publicity. What a good organising team - hands up who would like to see them at Birr? Think the magazine could at least sponsor their accommodation - not of course their drink bill!

  14. Oman, Great to see Ian across and also the English Spaniel team and the Welsh Retriever one - hoping to extend all of this in 2014. Agree about straw bales or even bales of shavings - will have them in place next year but accident caused by dog on its return - didn't appear to be looking where it was going. Michelle's big dog took the knock and saved the small bitch . We got it away quickly to the local vet who we had arranged to be on call - thankfully it appears to be ok. Master mc grath are 'elite' lurchers -we have tried to bring in other races for differently bred dogs.
  15. One of my objectives in running fairs was to provide a meeting place for like minded people - in short a similar objective to this forum. I am all for free speech but as the moderators have said on here there should be much more that unites us rather than divides us. I regret to say that any animal rights person 'listening in' would be delighted by the friction generated whereas arranging through the forum to meet up and discuss could be a better way to resolve differences of opinions. 'Hands up' - I too have posted more heated comments than I should have! In the past when people and I have me
  16. John, Delighted to give you qualifiers and as we are only paying expenses to UK qualifiers this year happy to put up £25 each for your two winners and so the whippet owner doesn't feel left out £25 to them as well. Email your address to send it to - to me at irishgamefair@btinternet.com I think our own relationship is a good example to people who clash on this forum in that we did rather get off on the wrong foot over the initial Five Nations and our discussions were fairly robust to say the least. A face to face meeting and a hand shake sorted it all out which is the way things shou
  17. I believe that if someone asks a question they should be given an answer. I do not need the fairs and never have for my livelihood and have never taken anything out of them other than some expenses - that is why we can afford to put so much money into our prize fund and other sponsorships. In fact they have always been a sort of hobby for me - albeit a risky one sometimes with current Summer weather! We organise the fairs because we are dedicated country sports enthusiasts and happen to think they are the best platform to defend country sports. I personally find it a delight to work to d
  18. Dazzam, Thank you for your participation in the fair both as an independent line judge for the Master McGrath and for taking the initiative in bringing not only ferret racing back to the fair but also a ferret show - What next for 2014?

  20. Congratulations to Pat McGrath from Carlow who won the Master McGrath Challenge with his dog Joey. The heats had some of the tightest finishes ever including John Humpries dog Rebel beating Fiona Devlin's dog by a nose. My congratulations to the NILRC and the Bannside Club for organising two excellent days of sport for the lurcher, terrier and whippet community and for the sporting manner in which the results were taken. Three fine dogs in the final of the All Ireland Championships Show with Des Mackin's terrier pipping a lovely little lurcher and a fine whippet. Judges Tom Barry, Tracy Gill
  21. LF, Sorry missed your message best to get me at irishgamefair@btinternet.com
  22. Dazzam, The NILRC have measured most if not all of the elite dogs and to date there have only been a very few objections to this. I couldn't disagree with your suggested system of measuring and this is something I am sure the NILRC will take on board. Obviously with an event of the size of Shanes we cannot measure each and every dog running. It is up to anyone who considers their dog is borderline to have it measured before racing or risk disqualification. I do disagree with your point 4 because we could have challenge after challenge with the obvious delay and bad feeling this would en
