  1. Shield, I think you are being a little unfair to Dessie. He is a dog man through and through and has been one of the top winners and judges of terriers internationally as well as in Ireland. I know for a fact Dessie puts a lot back into dogs through various sponsorships/donations etc and when I attended his Christmas show I said to my wife as I went away - that must have cost Des some money. I would suspect his judging will actually cost money because when he was one of three judges at Birr in the FN - he didn't take his expenses that were offered! I don't know whether Des has ever kept whipp
  2. Paulus, I have been doing these for coming 36 years and 53 fairs - so they are very much part of my way of life. I do enjoy organising them probably because they are more of a hobby than a job and while they need to make a profit to survive I don't need to make my livelihood from them. A very big plus for me is the fact that I have met and worked with so many wonderful fellow country sports men and women during my time organising them. We have won many awards and had lots of compliments but the one that meant most to me was a father who in our survey said " When a child says to his

  4. Graham, One of the most successful Game Fairs in the UK is the Midland - in September. It is a good time for end of season bargains from retailers, good time to purchase last minute items for the shooting season etc. This year the event will be mainly indoor because the estate had let some of the ground we would use in future events but we still wanted to have a Terrier, Lurcher & Whippet presence so this will be a Terrier, Lurcher and Whippet WINNERS event in the main outdoor arena - i.e Lurcher of the Year, Terrier of the Year, Whippet of the Year and Pup of the Year to be judged fr

  8. Delighted to present Dessie with his very smart Barbour Tweed suit from Smyth's Country Sports of Coleraine -part of his prize for winning Supreme Champion at the All Ireland Terrier, Lurcher and Whippet Championships at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, Antrim June 2013. In spite of fighting off the 'flu - Irene and I enjoyed a couple of hours at Dessie's Christmas Show. Well done to Des and his team for putting on a very enjoyable event in cold and wet conditions and for Des's excellent sponsorship throughout the show. 10. Can organisers please get their applications in for 2014 qualifiers as soon as possible to avoid date clashes and allow for qualifying paperwork to be posted out in good time - in 2013 we had to chase up paperwork and there was a delay in getting tickets out to the qualifiers. send me dates to irishgamefair@btinternet.com To allay concerns raised on facebook we do not have any plans to make the new Five Nations Whippet Championships KC registered whippets only. In fact the whippets qualifying will be put forward by the organisers of the clubs running qualifiers under their own classifica

  12. Yes Margaret, Harry did a good job including excellent coverage of the digging, and the two Five Nations Championships. Together with the racing coverage of the Master McGrath on the Shanes video , I think we did our bit to promote terriers and lurchers - and of course whippets!
  13. We are delighted to report that the 2013 Birr Game Fair programme is now available to view on https://vimeo.com/78679990 Made by the inimitable Harry Cook and presented by Ingrid Houwers it features a good flavour of what, with the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle, fulfilled the objectives that we set for the fairs in Spring 2013: To deliver the two biggest and best Irish Game Fairs ever. AND as I state in the programme 'It is onward and upwards in 2014' with many new improvements already in place. The Birr Castle event features the Five Nations Terrier & Lurcher Championships which wi
  14. It is a pleasure to help promote your organisation. Just finished the edit of the Birr Game Fair video and good to see your banner on display at the digging and your team doing so well.
  15. Billy is a good lad and not a bad photographer! He is a thoughtful guy and this gesture is typical of him. Good to see the kids from Forest Lodge at the fair and the terrier & lurcher folk making them most welcome. Irene worked for many years with special needs kids and son David is currently a special needs teacher so we know these kids are SPECIAL!

  17. Great to see a strong representative body for Working Terriers taking its place amongst the other country sports exhibitors at our shows. I know the other organisations enjoyed the craic with your team and we had nothing but compliments about your display. Thank you too for nominating two of the judges -and I am delighted to report that we had no complaints! Be delighted to welcome you back at both events next year - 28/29 June Shanes Castle and 23/24 August Birr Castle and to help your fund raising by giving your events qualifiers for the Five Nations Championships and if early enough th

  19. I think you might be strung up for your comments about handbags and whippets BUT a volunteer is always better than a conscript and we will certainly look at you joining our judging team in 2014!
  20. So will I as I have raided the piggy bank to sponsor this myself!

  23. Would Bri, Dazzam and Vermon Catcher be suitable as the three judges for this Whippet championship?
  24. LJ, We will be delighted to have suggestions for qualifying shows from NI, ROI , England, Scotland and Wales for this inaugural Championship - I have been asked why it is at Shanes - the answer is that I have underwritten myself so I don't have to bring the rest of the team along. While they fully support my efforts on the other championships we have in place exciting new innovations for the gundogs, clay pigeon shooting and angling and have to budget for them
  25. Shane, So you should be - you have a great team with real family commitment. We all have enjoyed working with you and you set a standard of organisation that's hard to beat. With Tango's expertise added at Shanes I feel we really do have the two top teams in the country. Albertj Have to agree with you there Albert, both team's really know how a show should be run...And very colour co-ordinated ! The Roscrea Lads, Ladies & Kids always turn out smartly - used to be red colours - now blue. I am sure the Mourne team will also turnout smartly at Shanes and having seen how wel
