Tulleyed, No open show on the day. Just straight into the championships with qualified dogs. The reason is that the estate had let most of the farmland and the field that would be ideal for T&L racing and show needs to be available for overflow car parking. That's why we decided that the only real way to have a good presence of T&L & W was to have a pre qualified championship. And of course for qualifiers admission is free with your entry. -

Kieran and I have selected Rose Mc Coy to judge the whippets. I remember watching Rose judge at Ballywalter and was very impressed with how she went over the dogs giving every dog 'the once over' in a calm, gentle and very efficient and professional fashion. I trust whippet owners will give her a great entry. -

Milliken, I agree - judging can be a thankless task and I admire people who do it. I judge occasionally at IKC Ch shows and I would be disappointed if people wouldn't show under me as I have always judged the dogs and not the person holding the lead. A lady who was not my biggest admirer broke down when I gave her dog BIS because she thought I wouldn't entertain it. Any person that Kieran or I would ask to judge we feel 1. Knows his or her dogs and 2. Is scrupulously honest in their approach. I am confident that the judges we have invited will do their job professionally and effecti -

Please NOTE that ENTRY MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE ON THE ATTACHED FORM and for this year these are the only competitions for terriers, whippets & lurchers. -
Great news - John Shaw called me tonight to say his dog had turned up in a vets in Dublin . the vet scanned the dog and found John's details through the micro chip. Obviously the publicity generated here and elsewhere made the dog difficult to trade. Look forward to hearing from John tomorrow that he and the dog are re-united. It does show that when country sports people work together we can get results. As someone who had dogs stolen which I never got back I am truly delighted for John.

Ireland Judges For The Game Fair At Birr Castle
AlbertJ replied to AlbertJ's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
I am so delighted to hear tonight from John Shaw that he is going to be re-united with his dog tomorrow that even your whingeing can't spoil that. I have no interest whatsoever in answering your questions as you appear to have no interest in anything other than trying to stoke up controversy. I cannot understand of what possible interest it could be to you who chose the judges but. the judges for Shanes were chosen by Kieran Young. When Kieran whose show at Mourne is regarded as one of the best in Ireland agreed to take over as Terrier, whippet & lurcher director at Shanes I delegate -

Right or wrong the objective now is to get the dog back. Paul Reynolds has put up £100 and I have put up £200 for information leading to the return of the dog or if someone found the dog loose to return the dog. Please contact the owner John shaw or myself -
Paul Reynolds has sportingly added an extra £100 to the reward for information leading to the return of John Shaw's dog that went missing from being tied up outside his trailer at the Birr Game Fair. We hope it somehow got loose and is being cared for by someone. If you have the dog or information about its whereabouts can you contact the owner John Shaw on077 469 39209 or me on 028 44839167. All information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Robert, The traveller problem as you describe happened for one year only and was dealt with immediately and it is not only travellers who might want to purchase a dog they take a particular fancy to. We hope that the dog has strayed rather than having been stolen as it was not in the trailer but tied to it. I have offered a £200 reward for information leading to the return of the dog. AlbertJ -
Just spoken to the owner John Shaw and no word yet. The dog was tied up outside the trailer so we hope that it may just have worked its was loose and someone is caring for it. If that is the case the person should come forward immediately to let John or me know its whereabouts and claim the reward. Albertj

Yes Bri - I hope the lurcher fraternity in Ireland and the Uk work together with the owner to get the dog back as soon as possible.
-
I don't have the facts as I have only seen it on facebook and the owner hasn't contacted us yet so we don't know whether it escaped or was stolen . I am sure that you like me would prefer to effect a reconciliation between owner and dog rather than make allegations!
-
I understand it appears a lurcher was taken without the owners permission at the fair at Birr at the weekend. I am happy to offer a reward of £200 for information leading to the return of this dog. Anyone wanting to give this information either contact the owner or me. The person giving the information will NOT be identified publicly in any way - total discretion and anonymity is guaranteed.

Ireland Judges For The Game Fair At Birr Castle

Leeview, The judges were well received before the event and I am confident ALL of them know a whole lot more about dogs and sportsmanship in Ireland than a guy who creeps on to the forum at this time of the year to criticise everything we try to do to promote a positive image of working dogs. If anyone looks at his posts about our Game Fairs they will see a pattern emerge from the posts from a person almost totally ignorant about what he posts and someone who obviously has a huge chip on his shoulder over his exchanges with me. I consider I am fortunate never to have met the man - I can- 34 replies

I am delighted that our judges have been well received for Birr and I trust they get a good entry. Our prize fund is second to none anywhere and the Roscrea lads are a great team so please give them your support. We are delighted to host the Mourne Digging Championships and a stand by the IWTF.
