There are plenty of dogs out there that even brought up well dont work how the owner wants. By that I mean pulling up at hedges, running half hearted on rabbits it doesnt think it can catch etc etc. If a dog exhibits traits which the owner doesnt like then to many that is a cull. There seems to be this belief that just becasue a dog chases and catches rabbits it has made the grade as a rabbit dog..... the humble rabbit will jack more dogs than you think. That'd be the owner mate, rather than the rabbit. Lack of fitness, poor bond etc etc. f**k off lol lack of commitment from the dog on the cases ive seen. Any real reason to be rude? Or are you 14 and it's par for the course? How many decent lurchers will 'jack' as in, refuse to run or tackle rabbits? And in comparisson, how many will refuse to tackle a fox or deer (pre ban) ? So how do you work out if you have an average dog......I have never owned a half hearted dog but to someone else they might think it's shit. What kind of benchmark do you use to judge your dog....this is one of those things were everyone will have differing opinions. And if we start from the premis that not everyone can have the best dog and they all can't be world beaters then there has to be a dumbing down to some degree. surely all dogs will have a diffrent bench mark, i judge a dog an have a fair idea as to what it shoud or what i think it should be capable of, by the time it

jackers come in all shapes a forms imo rabbits dogs that run half hearted/stand an watch the bunny maybe for a second or 2 picking its runs we call it hare dogs i have seen some do the same thing jog towards the hare for 1st 20 yds then just stop an watch it run away i have seen deer dogs run beside deer for a full field, waiting an hoping for a fence lol fox dogs that spit oot the fox when the going gets tuff, or maybe awready a wee bit sore.... they come in all shapes an sizes an in most discipines i have seen lurchers worked to... all the big game i seen hunted was preban,

id feel more guilty telling the kids there was no supper, cos the spewer pulled up the bunnys i showed it na seriosuly, i have sorta got it so my kids have there own pets an i have mine for working... however in the past i have told them that dogs have went away to live with a mate, an it wasnt entirely true

i know its gonna upset a few folk, but it is a serious question... we all know ye only get out what ye put in when it comes to pups, but most also know, that not everydog is gonna make the grade... so what happens next???? do you cull/rrehome or keep what ye got an make the most of it?????? dont care how ye cull, or who ye rehome to, not what im asking.... be honest, have you got jackers in yer kennel, are you happy with them??? or have you replaced a jacker with a dog that gives its best.. atb Dotty

My first was was from a first cross deerhound x greyhound bred by a guy in Burnley in the 70`s, and put to a collie cross lurcherxlurcher, I picked the smallest bitch from the litter, she was 23 and a half inches and remains the BEST all round lurcher bitch Ive owned, or seen.
