Pups are fuckers for investigating anything with a preyfull essence, sheep shit , cat shit basically any bodily secretion The most basic form of attraction is ingestion, if the object is a little too predatory like fox shite, physical contact fulfills that attraction, farmer shit eating episodes are by far the most stomach churning dog hating isssues , f***ing dog comes running over with scatty whiskers and chin, fecking delighted with himself filthy b*****d

As the man said and well put , don’t be in a panic to get the perfect retrieve with pups the pup should be in the same head space with an object on its own and also in your space, holding something prized in its jaws while moving around your space is a predatory act, if you think about it, no pup walks around with a prized item in the wild without going unchallenged unless they are the most predatory in the pack, it’s a state of mind a feel good state retrieve in pups should start from a carry, can the pup carry a prized item along side, without feeling venerable without

The value of letting a pup be a pup

Separate the retrieve from the recall, Retrieve should come from a bite and carry If pups name is used in recall and retrieve, any ignored recall given will bleed into the retrieve and visaversa any reluctant retrieve will degrade recall for recall get a nose touch to the palm of your left hand , for a retrieve get down on your hunkers and get body contact with object still in pups mouth, don’t take the object, get it to walk and carry for a short time , stop and reward , it’s the carry of a prized item in your space for the pup thats the pay off , that’s the feel good facto -
The value of letting a pup be a pup

Pups have zero impulse control, the impulse to act on stimulation at that age is instinctive , if it moves, grab it I won’t confront a pup for displaying an excited mind or behaviour , it’s a state of mind you have to work with !! Pups construe the world though a predator/ prey ratio” what causes me to feel predator like” is tagged as positive and” what stops me” is tagged as a negative , Us included so by the time sexuality strikes and your still seen as a positive, serious training becomes a lot easier manage the pup so you don’t have to confront because if you don -
a Dog only ever has a physical problem bud , if you think about it very f***ing issue we have with the dog has an energetic element to it , chasing a cat , jumping up , ripping up shit , even whining is a low energetic vibration , quality time with dogs involve movement, not sitting on sofa together , patting , whispering, none of that shit has any revelance to building a bond, the primordial aspect of a dogs character is the key pet dogs get hooked on chasing ball it’s the only instinctive expression they have , prey instinct is a gateway into the cani

You got to make yourself more revelant to the pup at that stage of development, sexuaity brings strong urges which are being triggered by other stimulation, a pup doesn’t finely tune any stimulation at that age because evolution doesn’t know what round the corner so it’s stimulation level and interest are vast , it’s anyrhing that triggers its Prey instinct, so engaging it’s prey instinct through you is the only way to go, it stops other behaviour now from becoming a habits later food, tug items , walks away from other gobshites in as quiet an area as you can so the

Don’t over complicate things In the house i don’t let a pup free in the house until he’s able to contrast between inside rest : outside play , it’s a habit that’s get created by you habits the pup create turn into problems we have to solve if left to their own devices it’s either in its crate or it’s outside with me , it learns that’s it environment decides it’s state of mind ignore it in the house and the pup will switch off stimulate it in the house and the pup will be switched on , constantly

Common beginner mistakes to avoid!
Casso replied to Who let the dogs out!'s topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Young lads need to stop projecting thoughts into the dogs head and see pups for what they are , every pup is working off a preprogrammed script that first and foremost involves prey making anytime a pup gets stimulated it slips into a prey making reflex just because it’s a f***ing cushion in the sitting room , doesn’t make it any less real in the pups state of mind , it’s a mind set we need to work with if we constantly confront a pup for displaying and acting on a stimulated state , we create problems for the recall and many other behaviours later in maturity from a pups -

Don’t be afraid to use food Up until sexual maturity a pup is a stomach on legs I only feed while out with the pup , getting it making physical contact to feed , if you think about it , it’s about getting a pup coming into your space in the field and aligning around a highly prized item but at the same time I don’t bowl feed so I’m not creating an exclusion zone around something the dog values , no fear creeps in as it never arises instincts creep in when a dog is unsure of your space , -
I like that red runner a lot,

Firstly , Dogs move differently in different states of mind, if it’s on the way out as opposed to on the way back in , I would keep a eye on it the term “Supple “ is used for a relaxed, chilled, easy motion style of movement but it should also show in relaxed shoulders , neck , ears down , swaying style as you mention, basically not a care in the world, happy in its skin , energy grounded. To my eye, it’s a body language tell of a well grounded dog and a good outing

Seen some great results from a half bred bitch to a good lurcher dog , twice as good as the bitch , pups seem to be ahead of time as far as learning too, smart from the off

I’ve always worked off the principle that if a animal was bred for a specific purpose the pups will be genetically predisposed to gravitate towards that purpose, actually catching game in this case , almost as if the learned ability is passed on to the pups even prior to them hunting , I used to believe the greyhound was the starting point, but hounds nowadays are bred to race not catch , collie is not bred to catch , although they can , and when was the last time a deerhound fed a family that’s my take on it , I’m sure others will disagree , but I feel the physical history of

What I am saying is when someone brings a dog here with dog aggressive tendencies, it is almost certainly socialised with a high temperament with zero outlet for its physical capabilities many have had negetive encounters through socialisation , I wasn’t clear enough to add that these are joe public’s dogs not working animals working dogs are less aggressive in general because of purpose
-
The puppy stage of development is the most open and engaging , there is complete emotional flow, in other words what it is attracted to , it wants to ingest , A stomach on little legs , no barriers to attraction and also no self regulation, no impulse control when it encounters resistance as it grows which it will in the form of house breaking, confrontation for ripping shit up, basic run of the mill day to day life in the Home encounters , these encounters are tagged with fear , how can it not be, the only way it can perceive the world is through a predator/prey axis negati

There definitely food for thought in what your saying ,it’s gone a bit stale on here of late , I’ll say one thing about chap , when he takes a bite he won’t let go ? debate on any topic is always good believe it or not , it informs but it also brings a new prospective you may not have looked at before If you keep an open mind ,
-
? plenty, but I don’t hide behind” I’m this and I’ve done that” ,it might impress some but you’ve a limited knowledge of why and how of behaviour , you don’t really understand dogs, your ego won’t let you open your mind, if you could debate behaviour like an adult , I’m all ears but there’s nothing behind the bravado ,
-
The reason it can contrast between two environments is because it’s shown what to bite first and when to bite, not the other way round they show it what to do with its energy first that’s how a protection dog knows go from no , nothing in the hell to do with socialisation
-
Socialisation is the new cure all for dog aggression , how were dogs able to hold their shit together years ago before socialisation ?
-
So if a bullock came up the lane the same as a person and got nipped and ran , one is bad socialisation and the other is it’s job , can ya not see the link ?
-
Every mutt in these isles has been socialised as is the norm for the last 10 years but the shelters are growing ? basically you putting any instance of aggression down to not been socialised , is that what your saying ?
-
Why will a dog only be aggressive on a lead while otherwise is fine , why will a dog just flip out one day out of the blue and before that showed no aggression ?
