Ireland's Best Mma Fighter And It's Not Conor Mcgregor
Casso replied to Patchthedog's topic in General Talk
He's good alright the lightweight division in the ufc is full of killers though, Pity he was prevented from competing in Dublin would have a good test, The fact that he's training in the tri star aswell will add another 10% to his game -
One of the problems with rearing a driven pup is its prey instinct and how unsocial that expression is in a family environment, when a pup is charged up thousands of years of evolution is hard wired into its genes telling it to bite something, When a pup is stimulated its urge is to bite , it's a behaviour which doesn't fall outside what canines do in the wild or what expected from driven pups in other dog related sports but they have systems set up to manage and channel it , Keep the pup in as calm a situation as possible, hard to do in a family environment I know but what you need

What are the circumstances of the biting mate, is it when out , inside, are you moving, what are you doing at the time which causes the reaction in the pup

Every pup goes through that phase , the difference between those that do and those that don't is temperament, the higher the temperament the more predator like a pup acts and at the same time the more engaged with you the pup will be , I love a pup who is all over me biting and mouthing because it's all potential for work with me, by mouthing I know the pup is attached and attracted to me, if a pup pup is hanging on my every word , when I bend down to pick up something the pup is all over it that's what I'm lookin for that's the foundation of a conifident dog Just introduce something

Kennel 1 Pup On Its Own Or 2 Pups Together?
Casso replied to Ecotone's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
One at a time is good fishing as my old man would say , every pup is an open book to form how we want it to be and that includes getting used to been on its own, Once it's secure, warm and gets out to express its canine inclinations once in a while there is no issue , anything else is how humans perceive things not how the pup see it , -
I've studied their training methods over the years, they work with the inate drive in the pup and just build on it, Was over with Alpha dogs in Indiana some years ago, they take it to a completely different level, it's all the same drive , a drive to make contact with whatever the specific prey item is be it man, rabbit , hare , tug item , It's amazing the control you can have over a dog if you control what it perceives to be prey ,

Lookin at that fight again, Holm looked very strong at that weight carrying very little excess , whereas Rhonda looked like she was carrying a bit, a lot of questions asked of Edmond the trainer now , why the f**k didn't he tell her to take Holm down at the break instead of telling her she's doing great , Him telling everyone Rhonda had better hands than an ex pro world champ is partly what lead to her loss, ego blinded

Makes me wonder about the quality of opposition ronda faced up til now if the first quality standup up girl can make shite of her in just over one round ,,

There's plenty on that lunatic McGregor on YouTube and the like, he went thru a phase where he thought he was Scottish, I think he's over that now , he seems to be obsessed with how everyone is doing number wise in the ufc, the size of the gates and viewing figures I suppose he needs something to focus his obsessive nature on, he'll come and go like the rest ,

Just for my own curiosity mate , have you ever confronted him about food or taken food off him, basically any negetive interaction over with may be a prized possession for the pup ?? On a lighter note it will get better , keep your relationship light and easy going, hand feed, don't confront just manage , best of luck stick with it

Sometimes food can interrupt a dog in a certain mindset for sure , training is just a continuation of play anyway and if the dog is interacting with you through play there's no reason it can't be the reward for correct behaviour, Is there an issue in particular, I feel there's a bigger story
-
Think I got my wires crossed there bud , I only hand feed , never out of the bowl, a pup gets used to the interaction while out , not training as such more waiting for a behaviour and marking it , the pup does an action, gets a yes , then fed,

It's good on a number of reasons , 1 your space becomes a safe zone for the dog, 2 food aggression isn't an issue , 3, the dog becomes tuned into your body language and tone 4 commands are easy taught to a hungry dog 5 the dog doesn't usually range to far, if feeding on the go , I f****d away the feeding bowl long ago, With highly driven pups it's the best way of keeping its attention while out, I can't fault it anyway ,

Higgins has a good insight into the gundogs mind, he has also twigged that the prey controls the predator , he starts a lot of them very young which works for him because he doesn't work on commands or come into conflict with a pup at that sensitive stage, he uses the pups inate ability to hunt as a way of socialising it , He's smart the way he sets up scenarios where the dogs only option is to stop itself to gain access to prey, he clued up where it comes to why a dog does what it does, he has a theory and sticks with it

The canned lion farmer association or whatever it's called are bang on in their marketing ploy, to rich yanks or any other rich fat f**k you can brainwash into believing that a stuffed llion or lion head will not only safe guard the lion population but add another 6 inches to his nob It's all in the way it's packaged to folk who have more money then sense, Where i see it falling down is if it starts effecting the Safari industry in SA through negetive propaganda, there's a lot of neighbouring countries vying for the Yankee dollar in wildlife tourism

Whatever works for ya lab is how it should be, its all about both parties understanding what's required, the dog can then be corrected for making a wrong move or defiance, it's when the dog doesn't grasp what's required and starts tuning you out is a bigger problem because the "tuning out" can then be a learned behaviour when introduced to any new activity The "tuning out "is actually fear creeping in, it's an instinctive behaviour if I've learned anything about dogs, is fear is completely untrainable, it's a lot easier to get the best out of a dog if his temperament is to the fore, Bes

Shit , that was quick , I would keep up the foundation work with the pup to reinforce it, the more solid the foundation is the more ingrained the action will be with distractions

I'm not a big fan of having a pup in the house 24/7 way to much stimulation for a puppy mind, as well that there are another few reasons A pup anywhere will express prey instinct, such as biting, tearing , pulling , digging the list goes on, not an ideal scenario in the family home but on top of this it brings him into conflict with us at an age where he is most easily affected by negetive attention, A dog must get used to being in its own company, just resting and sleeping, happy or sad are not issues which apply to dogs , the only things that concern a dog is 1 what do I do which my e

With the greatest respect penny I wouldn't be mad about the idea of calling his name then stopping a young dog in his tracks, I have seen confusion creeping into many pups recall at that early stage if their not 100%sure what the owner wants , keeping the recal command if it is the pups name for only positive interactions leaves no gray areas in his learning

I would box train the down starting at home through feeding, The way it should go is, get her up on a something with a flat top a box is ideal but any secure surface is fine, it has to be height enough that it's a waste of energy getting off for her and she remains on it to eat , hand feeding only She will probably sit at first but direct the food down in front of her nose down between her chest so she has to sit back on her haunches to eat , a bit at a time only feeding in the down, She has to be doing the action every time before introducing a command or whistle, the action f

Generally on here there is a notion that a pup must be trained by 6/7 months , start as soon as it's off the bitch , sitting recall , stay, you name it , it all has to be established at a young age or the pup will grow up wild or turn out completely untrainable, it's bullshit the whole notion is bullshit The trick of bringing up a social pup is not to confront or discipline until it developes reason , long after 6/7 month mark , and make yourself interesting to the pup as it grows, one of the best ways of doing this is f**k away the feeding bowl and hand feed while out on walks , it's a f

Take a step back in the training, and have the pup completely chilled in your space Wherever you do the training , go out without the retrieve item and get the pup coming into your space to feed, hand feed all his grub that day in your zone, Pups don't understand when training stops and starts , every interaction with its owner is a feeling out process , you can't give it shit one minute at home and not expect it to be reflected in the training field If and when you get a shit hot retrieve , quit , stop when the retrieve is at its finest , could be one or two don't matter , always

Cats kill by ambush, different story if a big cat catches a dog off guard and sinks teeth in before dog knows what the f**k is going on,

Too much stimulation, When a pup is stimulated it has to act, it lives in the immediate moment, So stimulation in, causes energy out , the pup is reflecting externally what it's feeling internally, Best of luck with it ,
