  1. That's an interesting point you make about the collie pit/greyhound comparison My reading of their possible interaction with sheep goes along the lines of , at which point do instincts kick in for each canine, instincts kick in when social breaks down which is the same as a dog being overwhelmed by stimulation but instead of the collie breaking down into instinctive reactions he can take his drive to the next level and can hold both handler and sheep in the same frame of mind He can take direction while in a highly emotion state , whereas most other breeds crash in such a charged
  2. I thought you could only take haggis with a gun, or are you talking pre ban ?
  3. It might seem like that from the outside bud but it doesn't need to be another Celt nation playing against the Tans
  4. Watched a bit of the fly ball comp, mix of breeds and cross breeds involved which was good to see that it's not only collie types I don't believe there handlers have any more insight into dogs then most lurcher men but they have a working bond predicted on prey making and when you control what the dog believes is prey , you control the dog
  5. That's s great backdrop in the second last pic , fine lookin dog , what's in the mix ?
  6. There's a whole heap of unmanageable castrated mutts out here, chopping off its nuts shows a complete misunderstanding of aggression because on that note no bitch should have any aggressive issues without testosterone flowing through its system
  7. Couldn't agree more, big push to castrate and to keep dogs in general under energetic threshold, drug if energy levels get too high and socializize as young as possible as if you don't the pup will never adjust and become a rehab case, Seen it now in hunting mags , I have never socialised any dog big or small just focus them on their job in hand and have had zero issues with any of them , I have met people who can't walk their castrated socialised mutts in daylight because they are so f***ing reactive to harmless encounters to other dogs
  8. Enjoyed your posts sir , best of luck
  9. For 7 months old , that's an able lookin pup
  10. Both brains and brawn, each dog is different in they're own way, I suppose you will never get two the same. had a bitch that didn't like other dogs, this one doesn't like strange people very much and my other two halfx are sound, if another dog shows any aggression what so ever to either of them they won't hesitate, (Ticking time bombs) when out with others who have aggressive dogs. The firstx is the one on the right. I tried to put better pictures up but were to big. Type in wheaten in the search bar at the top right hand side of the page and select forums, should bring up the past pages o
  11. Serious lookin animal, I'd feed a dog with a look like that on his face, the eye says it all
  12. Most cheap dog food is almost wholly made up of veg anyway, just because it says protein in it doesn't mean it's animal extract
  13. Don't worry about whistles bud focus on him paying attention to you , the more he tunes into other things the less he focuses on you, At that age I want him to feel that I'm his whole world
  14. The predatory aspect of the human from a dogs point of view is eye contact, when we apply eye contact we can throw a dog into a different mindset, not an answer to your problem bud but something to be aware of , Then again ? You may not have that issue at night
  15. She has abit to go yet , fair bit of knuckle left on her , good luck with her
  16. look at it this way bud, from the time a pup is born he must overcome resistance in the form of his own body and his litter mates to feed and it's the first , hunt chase and kill it ever experienced, that process is replayed it's whole life in a working dog, it's the best he can feel So if we enforce any element of resistance into a dogs life we tune him back into the feelgood factor of sucess in the original overcoming and we include us , so when I hand feed a pup from early making him push against one hand to get what he wants in the other , I'm reinforcing my self as a part of that fee
  17. Raise him nice and slow lad , he don't need to encounter everything in the world before a certain age or he'll grow up to be a rehab case , this early socialising is currently in vogue and the reality is dogs are becoming more aggressive today not less Hsnd feed, don't over stimulate, let him get plenty of sleep and don't worry about training til the pup trusts you 100%
  18. The simplest method of ensuring a group connection, forming a group mind, Is by the pup feeling 100%safe around you and curtailing him so he can't f**k up and have to be disciplined, I leave a long line on a pup that age out, I just grasp it up if I see him acting the maggot, Only feed him out not out of a bowl at home ,it all conditions how a pup relates to you in the field Training at home is not trained for the field, environments evoke different mindsets ,different mindset promote different behaviors Walk in calm natural areas , try cutting down on the amount of stimulation
  19. He is certainly very unpopular with almost everyone you speak to in Ireland, but and it's a big but, Ireland only has around 4 million residents in total and other than probably in Dublin they have never had to experience the shit we have in England. There just isn't the same pressure and that's a fact......maybe they have held it at bay because Ireland is such a religious country? ......the Catholic Church is still very powerful and part of day to day life. Who knows, what I did know is that if the Irish government had done to ireland what the British government has done to the UK they woul
  20. I thought when he reached the office , he'd tone things down a bit It won't be long before his mental state for the job in hand is been called in question
  21. Who gives a shite !! Morning television ffs
  22. Only feed up close and personal, keep her on a long line when out of kennel To be honest with ya bud a pup of that age should be a hungry little b*****d , have you confronted her over something in the house , most pups that feck off out, will almost always come for food in the home where there is no distractions
  23. Saluki was bred to catch , its intellegence is in that process which involves the ability to read the movement of prey , it was never bred for anything else Dogs evolved because the wolf was able to tune in prey animals and through that into us The saluki may not be as tuned into us as some breeds but for his original job there is no better The grey hound is now bred to race another dog it's not about catching anymore Think about it if your breding an animal to catch another, it needs to run as far and it needs to be intelligent enough to conserve energy neither of which the grey is
  24. As already said incidents such as these are more about how the dog feels in or around your space than anything else The dog is bringing in a catch, it feels a certain way it feels flow , gets to within 10 feet or so has to change its state of mind , it has to go from one state of mind to another because somewhere it incountered fear A sensitive dog goes from feeling predator like to feeling prey like in or around you and it can't fit you and bunny in the same frame of reference it's too highly prized f**k away the bowl, a desire overcomes fear and hand feed what the dog believes is hi
  25. Any pup is open to programming a routine on, I didn't worry about the trap that people feel they need to keep a pup occupied when not around , a pup doesn't need to be kept jollied along to be content with itself on its own Even if you walk in the morning , in time what your doing is programming an expectancy for the pup to arise and feel energised at an ungodly hour at the weekend when you fancy a leg over or sleep on , A pup needs very little human contact , couple of hours a day is plenty shown in studies to grow up completely social in every aspect, too much stimulation can cause
