  1. Utter crap in my Anshultz 1712 when I tried some maybe 20 years ago. When they hit they do kill well, problem is getting them to hit accurately. On enight I fired 3 at a rabbit at about yards, all missed, I popped in a subbie and felled it. thats a pretty long one for a subbie, well it is in my book. A
  2. Agreed, you need to be able to hit anything you shoot at, waste of time, effort and money otherwise. Game shooting then joining a syndicate is the best way forward, if you cant run to that then working as a beater should get you an end of season day and after a year or two maybe access to pigeons etc on the shoot. Gun wise buy a used Beretta, Miroku or Browning, if you are of average size and build then 28 inch barrels. All those makes will if looked after outlast you, for what you want a game gun will be fine, 12 bore would initially be best but of you are approching 60 then look at
  3. dead rabbit, pigeons, crow, magpie, anything you can get hold of, start 100 yards from your pen and work further away. Currently I have 10 Buzzards thanks to 2 sucessfull nestings within 300 yards of 5 pens. After a few days an evening vigil over the biating area might pay dividends with a charlie, just peg the baits down to stop him grabbing and running. A
  4. No problem at all, birds are used to farming operations. I dont usually cut any rides etc untill Sept-Oct time. A
  5. Sounds like typical stoat/mink kills. Lots of Fenn traps and carry a shotgun. A
  6. Most good rifle shops will sort you out a starter kit. Persoanlly I would go with RCBS rather than Lee but the Lee primer tool is excellent. A
  7. Had my T8 since 2003, have got rust bubbles appearing around the outlet hole. It gets a sqirt with aerosol gun cleaner or WD40 most times but not blown out. Fired maybe 700-800 rounds though it. Wont be having another. A
  8. At those ranges with a 22.250 you will have no problem at all. A
  9. No reply to my pm either yet he has been on line here 2 days ago. Sounds like he has either changed his mind or binned them. A
  10. I had an issue with a lampforce lamp last night and while looking for a spare switch came accross this; http://www.lightforce.net.au/LFSPORTCAT_JAN2008_email.pdf page 18. says a 9AH battery running a 100w bulb will only give 40 minutes of continous use. A
  11. Of course you are not wrong, but that is untill the battery is totally discharged. I am talking about having a light level remaining that is usable at 200 yards, that will fail well before the battery is totally flat. For air rifle or rimmy use then shorter distances mean longer time between charges. Totally discharging a battery does not do its life exectancy much good, optimum battery life is obtained by recharging when the battery is pretty low but not totally flat. Topping up a charge after maybe 5 minutes use also does not do them much good. I only use my battery pack in c
  12. My friend is interested in the 270 cases but is unable to register here for some reason. Could you please advise what makes they are and if I send you a cheque to cover the costs are you prepared to post them?. PM sent, Thanks. A
  13. Rubbish. Do your maths. I used 7AH battery's for many years, going out for 1-2 hours at a time and rarely ran one flat. I now use the Deben tracer Lithium Ion 10AH pack - its simply superb abd I wouldn't recommend anything else now I can do the maths Ok but I am talking about usable light that will allow clear target id at 200 yards, usually with an Amber or Green lens cover attached. As we only use them for a few seconds at a time then yes you can go out for a hour or two, I was out this week fro a couple of hours and still had a bit of life left but not a lot, that included looki
  14. Fox, 294 yards with a centerfire. Rimmy and subbies about 125 yards, on some fresh drilling, saw the fall of the first one and adjusted. A
  15. Hornet is indeed a very sweet round but is a bit fiddly to load, probably around twice the grunt of an HMR. My force have now stated that they will not authorise HMR for fox, a wise choice as its a head shot or nothing really unless close. A
  16. Good point that. But if they are lead and a plastic case then dry them out slowly by leaving in a warm room and use them. I have shot game on wet days for over 45 years and never had any issue at all. A
  17. To power a say a lamp such as a 170 with a 100 watt bulb current draw will be 8 Amps an Hour (AH). A 7 AH max capacity battery will give usable shooting light for maybe 15 minutes I think. Personally I use a Deben battery pack that consists of 2 x 10AH Batteries linked and in a shoulder pack. This gives me enough light to shot foxes out to 200 yards or so with a centerfire for maybe 30 or 40 minutes use drawing 8AH. A
  18. Unless you know exactly what you are doing it would IMHO be unwise to tackle this yourself. I recently had one fail on an Aya No2, cost me about £50, made, supplied and fitted by an ex Holland & Holland guy. A
  19. I use a 6x24x50 Swaro but in the field almost never use it above 8x. I think 10x would be Ok if of a good quality (S&B or Ziess have or had 10x fixed) but they are just a shade more limited. A
  20. I have a friend who may be interested in the 270s, I have given him a mail with the link. What brands are they?. Thanks A
  21. If you are going to be laying down and shooting prone then you will need a taller bipod to get over the longer grass etc. I use a 25C model and rarely use it at its shortest setting (12 "). Shooting off a bench etc then fine. A
  22. Guinea Fowl can fly quite well given a raised take off point over a gun line, good guard birds as well. A
  23. What sort of ES are you getting ?. A
  24. Pecar as vastly underated scopes, no longer made but can be picked up used very cheaply for what they are. Excellent quality optics, very brigh image but some of the reticules are a bit heavy for maybe aiming off (say 4 inches high). Keep an eye here, http://www.rmacleod.co.uk/shoptics.htm A
