    I agree with Terryd and Jimbo 201289. You have to work with your dogs particularly with terriers in my experience. As jimbo says, they can run off their nose, never looking up or around and being fairly headstrong, it can be frustratingly difficult to break this. I have 5 terriers at the moment and we work well as a pack, me included as the spotter! And as Terryd says, if you shout a command like "rabbit" or one of your own commands and run in the general direction, the dogs will get to know what to do eventually, especially if they get a few rabbits. I know this works because my oldest two do

    My favourite is by Davy Moore (http://www.mooreireland.com/about.html). Not expensive as they last for years with a small bit of looking after. And if I was going to get a new knife, I would only wish to get a new Moore knife but due to ill health, it seems there will be no more new knives made by Davy. Just as well the one I have now will last me for decades to come I hope.

    Different things will suit different people depending on their experience, location, budget etc. so it is difficult to state which is best in my opinion. There is a big temptation to get carried away with the new technology coming out all of the time and with the sales patters coming with them. Better to try to make the best of what you have already in your own hunting conditions. So, it's not just the item you buy that makes a good caller as it takes time and experience to get to know the how and the when of using callers - whatever type they may be.

    is there any bother using the HID in misty rain or slightly foggy conditions? Would there be much light dispersed in the mist or fog that would make it too bad to take a good, clear shot?

    @liamdelaney Perhaps things are done differently elsewhere but I agree liamdelaney. If a dog was good, everyone knew that so it was not necessary for the genuinely good man to refer to his own good dogs as good. The dog man's reputation proceeded him and it was/is the same for his dog. Sure if a dog was good, any good dog man did not have to be told this to see the good of the dog. "Self praise is no praise" as the old saying goes!

    Brought a mates dog to local vet for chipping, JRT. €90 for chip and nail trim!!! My mate hasn't got that sort of disposable money. Now what?

    My 3 are chipped... not a problem as long as they don't do any harm. Just shot a lab and a rott as they killed 3 sheep. Vet coming over to scan them........ should be interesting!!!
