  1. Hi PLEDGEY About a year ago , i too was in the market for a low recoil Autoloader. I was looking for a gun under the £1000 price tag. After handing and shooting a few , i opted for the Winchester SX3 Composite 3.5'' Magnum. This gun has never missed a beat and the recoil with normal hunting loads is zero. I dont do clay pigeon just pest control , so i went for the composite model for the rough and tumble of field use. If memory serves , i paid just under £900 , and that includes a 5 year warranty with Winchester. As i was completely new to semi auto's , i was dreading the first
  2. Thanks for the replies lads. Looks like i'll be buying some superdomes to try, John
  3. Hi all. As the title of the post asks , i was just wondering what pellets you guys reccommened for my late 70's HW35 .22 rifle. I have recently refurbished the whole gun and have been using Bisley Superfield pellets for zeroing purposes. I have found these pellets to be fairly accurate at medium ranges , but was just wondering if there are better out there that suit the HW barrels more than the Superfields , Regards, John
  4. Thanks for the swift reply pink or stink Yes , i've just found out that some people use an enamel spray paint for jobs like this. I believe it's called ' Plasti-kote Fast Dry Enamel Spray Paint ' Regards , John
  5. Hi all As already stated in an earlier posting , i am in the process of refurbing my late 70's Bsa Mercury. I am currently working on the woodwork , a job i have done before , but i will be reluctant to put the rifle back together again with the end block in the state that it is in. Basically , half of the black paint is missing and is a nice shiney silver colour in various places. A friend told me that you can not reblue the end block , but he didn't say why not or what i could do instead. I have no experince with refurbing guns actions , so any advice will be greatly appreciated ,
  6. Thanks for the reply Pink or stink I'm in no immediate rush to sort this problem , so i'll just keep my options open for now and see what happens , John
  7. Look forward to seeing some pics when the rifle is finished and put back together
  8. Hi all I have recently come into the possession of a late 70's .177 Bsa mercury , so i have decided to give it a total refurb. The problem i seem to be having is , i cant seem to find any scope rails that stay on the rifles mounting grooves. I had a set 2 piece mounts laying about the house , so i obviously tried these first. However , after only a few shots the mounts simply came off , and this happened after 2 or 3 different attempts to attach them. I then decided to buy a set of one piece mounts off the bay , made by Hawke , item number 360173943410 , after reading that one piece m
  9. Hi all I am in the process of filling in the forms to renew my .22 rimfire fac. At present my fac is closed so i am just wondering how to word the seperate letter that i am going to send in with the forms asking to open up my ticket. As this is my first renewal , any advice on this subject will be greatly appreciated as i want to get the forms filled in and sent off as quickly as possible. I only use my rimfire for pest control and i am not in any shooting club. Regards, John
  10. As above. Even now , if i think too much before i take a shot i usually miss, Where as , if i just shoot on instinct and point the gun , i usually hit the target , Usually that is , John
  11. Thanks for the swift reply wurz. Yes , the 3-9x40 looks a real bargan at £29.99. I was also looking at the Nikko Stirling Mountmaster 3-9x40 PX priced at £36.99. Have you got any info on this scope , John http://www.jsramsbottom.com/products/riflescopes-nikko-stirling-mountmaster/nsmm3940ao-nikko-stirling-mountmaster-3-9x40-px-adj--riflescope-with-mounts-nmm3940ao.html
  12. Hi all I've recently picked up a late 70's / early 's 177 Bsa Mercury , and i am just wondering what scope you guys recommend that wont break the bank. To be honest , i dont want to spend any more than about £50 if possible as the gun is currently being serviced at the gunsmiths , and as usual i'm on a budget. Maybe a Hawk , or a leapers , Nikko sterling , Walther etc. Are there any scopes to avoid because they can't handle the springers recoil. Are any too long , and could cause problems when cocking the rifle ? The Gun will only be used for general plinking and maybe a bit of bunny
  13. Hi all After a long absence from the airgun scene , i have just picked up an old .177 bsa mercury from a chap at work. I only collected the rifle yesterday , and overall , the gun is in pretty good condition , apart from a few spots of surface rust on the barrel and a few scratches here and there. I have been out this morning and fired off a few shots through the chrony with Bisley Practice 7.2g pellets and the results were as follows : Highest 764.5fps / Lowest 740.5fps / Average 753.2fps = 9.7ft11b. Is this power level Adequate for corvid and bunny bashing , or should i spend a few
  14. I bought my rotary from Decoying Direct ( no connection with decoying.co.uk ) and i have had no problems at all. Paul , who runs the company is very friendly and will always try to help if you have any questions or problems. The current price at the moment for a rotary from this company is £69 , which includes the battery and vat , John Ps : Paul also runs The pigeon shooter : http://www.thepigeon...er.com/Home.asp Decoying Direct : http://www.decoyingd...=7&CategoryID=1
  15. I use both plastic and metal and personally i dont really have a preference from the two , as they have both performed faultlessly over the last 5 years since i bought my .22 rimmy. As already mentioned , most good gunshops will be able to supply new mags in both 5 and 10 shot capacity. Failing that , you can always contact Edgar Brothers who import the CZ range of guns and spares in to the uk. There is also this company who supplies the spare CZ mags that i found online , Regards , John Edgar Brothers : http://shootingsport...arbrothers.com/ Spare CZ Mags : http://c
