????????????? I think not!
-
Well thats funny because according to your first post on the forum you have been working lurchers since the age of 13 and have just recently taken up the "noble art of falconry" as you put it, you also go on in further posts to mention you have bought a harris hawk and are not sure if you can tell its male or female for god sake! oh and its "birds of prey" not "pray" but im sure you will know that with all your years of experience. Right now im "praying" you do decide to take the lantra award but like many other few month wonders im guessing its going to be "to much hassle" i well and truely r

Hobs are usually fertile for most of the year and come into breeding condition earlier than the Jills. Once a Jill comes into 'Heat' then she will stay that way for several months unless mated. ATB. Rod.

Ever thought that he may have a worm burden and is in need of a good worming? I worm all my ferrets at this time of year as a matter of course. I use Panacur 10% at the rate of 1/2 of a ml. for Hobs and 1/4 of a ml. for the Jills. I am suprised that nobody has picked up on it? ATB. Rod.

I don't think that you're 'pissing on anyones parade'! If you read my last post, I stated that the award WAS aimed at total beginners. What I don't like is that being asked to pay ex amount of £s for a piece of paper that says that I have passed the assessment to a level where I can keep, feed, and train a bird to fly to the fist on the creance when I have been Flying and hunting and breeding birds for years, with out any deaths!.Committment enough don't you think! Now it seems that both the BFC and WHC appear to be imposing the LANTRA award as a statutory requirement for membership? Is this

Thanks! I wouldn't say that the award is 'a load of shit' as I think that it has a place in that it is of some use to a total beginner, whome which it is aimed at anyway! I to made enquiries about the award. I told them what the level of my experience was, who my mentor was, and what birds I had and, had also handled and flown. It mattered not a jot. I was told that I would have to go and spend a day with the centre, and, if at the end of the day they felt that there were any areas that they felt, I needed to brush up on, I would have to attend a second day before I was assessed, and for that

Don't know what happened there. ATB. Rod.

I've got one 50/50 that was 12months old when it came out of the aviary. Had it about 3 months now and he still does it! Even when he flies to the lure on the creance. So don't worry! He'll settle down when he's ready just persevere.

Even at seven months old now and eleven months by November he is still a pup! Give him to much now and you may end up ruining a potentially good dog. Good luck! ATB. ROD cheers rod training has gone better than expected everything asked of the dog he does searches on command sit stay drops to whistle 100percent with bop holds point on rod and feather next step some baggie partridge he has already come across some sky larks pointed beautifully he will be 12 months old 6 Nov i now what you are saying and iam not expecting to much this season more importantly not going to push him but i thi

So LANTRA rears its head again??? At the risk of upsetting a few folk, here we go! The LANTRA award - A start in Falconry, is an animal welfare thing! THERE IS NO LANTRA COURSE. It is an assessment of your ability to keep a bird of prey. It covers the basics of husbandry, housing, feeding and early training culmanating in getting the bird to fly to the fist on the creance. You should only be paying for the assessment and certificate. The reason that they seemed unhelpful at the festival is that, seeing as the government wouldn't take responsability for LANTRA, and the hawk board wouldn't take

Mole who likes sandy stoney soil
EskdaleHawks replied to camies's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Have you found the main run? If so trap there, and I'm sure you'll get him! -
You probably didn't get any replies because it doesn't make sense! Why build an indoor mews when a secure outdoor aviery with shelter will provide the bird with what it requires?

Which is the bitch? As both of the dogs in this picture look the same size? If you have two dogs at the age you state then you have certainly got your work cut out. They won't mature until they are 18mths - 2yrs old. An old boy once told me! "You can't put an old head on young shoulders". Good luck. ATB. ROD.

does colour make a differents>>>???
EskdaleHawks replied to spiderfly's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The only difference between a light coloured dog and a dark coloured dog is:- A light coloured dogs hairs show up on a dark coloured carpet and a dark coloured dogs hairs show up on a light coloured carpet!!! How good they are at working all depends on the breeding and how they're trained! -
FRONTLINE! Does 'em a treat!

Just take it nice and steady. I can't see anything wrong with getting a young bird flying free. Then comes the fittness training just don't be in to much of a rush to enter him! You shouldn't need telling this anyway, Don't you fly a Redtail? The other forum wouldn't be the IFF by any chance?

Nice bird, keep us posted with his development!! ATB Rod.

Shepp, When I was a lad just starting out with fishing, I was taught to take ALL my litter home with me and had it drummed in to me what the consequences of my actions would have on the local wild life if I failed to do so. To this day I don't drop litter, And when fishing take home all my discarded line. It's not just anglers who are to blame. Where I live there is a big problem with Townies coming to a beautiful river gorge to jump off the bridge and "play" on a rope swing suspended over the water. When it is realy hot weather they can be clearly heard upto half a mile away apparently enjoyi

I'm registered with both the Guild of british molecatchers and the british traditional molecatchers register! -
We've had a large pipistrelle bat colony in the roof space of our single storey cottage for donkeys year and we have never lost a nights sleep over their comings and goings. The mice however are a different matter!

Training was a doddle. I trained him to the gun and have used him for picking-up but not beating. I certainly wouldn't part with him. If you are going to get a Drakeshead bred dog,I would recomend an untouched dog or pup and train it yourself. If you need help, then find someone in the know to show you the right way to do things. The worst thing you can do is just bumble on and hope you get it right. Good luck! Rod.
