  1. My doe has finally had her first litter of kits, and to be honest ive never seen a ferret kit before. Is there anything i should be checking for with the kits or the mother? not sure this is my first time breeding, But other than that from what i can see the mother and the kits are doing fine and she seems to be a great mother.
  2. Friggen rats, glad your ferret is ok. I once had that happens but it was with a hob and it wasn't rat, anyway I sent my ferret down the warren and a few minutes later I heard a fair bit of noise then the ferret emerged from the warren panting and wide eyed the poor fella and a bit of blood on him, so anyway we decided to smoke out whatever was in there and a big dirty old Tom cat come bolting out in to the net. Made short work of him, I couldn't of imagine what the poor ferret thought when he ran into him.
  3. Could you please explain what a quick set long net is please, cheers
  4. I was just wondering if I could get some advice on training my jack russel x Australian fox terrier pup to mark rabbit warrens. I do not have another dog to run her with.
  5. Yea probably better of don't really get much time flat out shearing all the time but the upside to it is I get permission quite easily.
  6. Nah I'm fine for nets mate the local gunship sells them and I would have about 60 and yea it is a struggle for ferret finders I'll have to purchase one online, and there is two ferret breeders in town. Also actually I wouldn't mind learning how to make my own purse nets.
  7. Move to Australia mate you'll have no hassle getting permission, At the moment I have 10,000 acres of permission.
  8. Thanks guys, I was just wondering if ferrets can be shipped overseas to Australia?
  9. Yea mate was planning on getting one, do you know of a website I could look on for them mate, and yea I was actually going to some blokes house today to have a look at some jack russel pups. Because and old fella that introduced me to ferreting had a jack russel and she was great he always knew which warrens were worth ferreting And which werent.
  10. Took my young ferret out for the first at a mates place not to far out of town, When i arrived i had a bit of a chat with my mate and he was pointing out roughly where abouts the warrens were. After 10 minutes or so of stuffing around he then decided he would come and bring his young fella out, Mind you this is the first time he had been out in 14 years and his young fella has never been before. So we set out down the paddock of his 100 acre block and he showed us the first warren, there was 8 holes on the side of the hill on the rocky country, so after stuffing around trying to set the nets t
  11. The most I've ever paid for a ferret is 20 bucks, otherwise people just give them away, unless you buy one from Sydney you have to pre order them and your looking anywhere from 120 bucks onwards.

  16. Do they breed through winter??? By the way got another property today bout 1000 acres millions of rabbits
  17. Got two more property's to hunt on now both about half hour drive from mine, They are fair sized properties though, Both about 5000 acres each looking forward to going out for a day out there should be good. Alot of work for the young ferret, She does well though, Got a young hob to get working to. Went ferreting the other day with my young jill in a huge warren, there was about 35 holes all up, i put the ferret down i thought here we go it's going to take forever to get a bolt, but within a couple of minutes the first rabbit come out, then about another 5 minutes later the 2nd rabbit bolted,
  18. Took my young jill out today, went out the girlfriends farm and we found this huge warren, So i put the ferret down and within minutes the first rabbit was in the net, So i got the ferret out and put her down another hole then within minutes again bang another rabbit. Then the ferret kept surfacing so there must not have been anything else in there, But for a huge warren and how spread out it was im suprised and how quick she bolted them. This is the fourth time she's been down so far she's coming along great, Still got to put my young hob down see how he goes.
  19. Theres nothing better i reckon than getting a young ferret and taking it out for the first couple of times and it shows potential
  20. same as but i take a bit of shit house paper just incase you get caught short lol thats what socks were invented for a past experience left me rather sore so i now opt for a bit of tissue lol HaHa talking about that, I was out camping with a few of my mates and we were out walking with the bow and we were a fair way away from camp and with no toilet paper one of them decided he needed to go to the toilet, He reached to grab some leaves and accidentally grabbed a handful of stinging nettles and well let's just say he was very sore and landed in hospital for a few days.
  21. What's your best experience?
  22. My best experience was taking my young jill out aswell, put her down a set of 15 holes, Then thought to myself maybe it's a bit to big for her but no she did good only two rabbits, but first time i ever put her down she's been down a couple of warrens now, and bolted a few bunnies now.
