  1. I'm sure the owner of Tess can speak for himself but I've spoke to him a few times and I can tell ye this he's very honest.
  2. Pritch Blands names was mentioned in the book I'm near sure.
  3. Fair enough lads.it would have filled a lot of blanks if he had of went through at least someone working a line direct from Gould if he could nt go to Gould himself.i suppose it would have made it a more complete book. Just on the subject though, the older dog men I know/knew where I live worked a line of Russell which seemed to set the standard. They came from a vet called Stuarty McIver.McIver was friends with Harry Carr whom Plummer mentions in the section off "the fell terrier" on Jonny Richardson.Just as matter of interest I looked into these dogs a bit deeper and found that they came fr
  4. As far as I can remember the fell terrier was the terrain the dogs the men and the latter was based on interviews.Plummer had a falling out with Gould making an interview difficult.only for the fell terrier most lads would nt have a notion about 90% of the men involved.I did nt take it to be an all inclusive book I'm sure there where more men involved than those mentioned.I still read the book occasionally but I'm convinced now that there where dogs at the time and since that where worked more than those mentioned. There's plenty of good terriermen about with high standards who's names will nev
  5. The reason plummers name was mentioned was because he wrote a very good book on the topic being discussed
  6. Heard all the crack before but I thought it was implied tip tim was bought by booth at a dog show?
  7. I think if I mind right Plummer made over300 trips to the lakes to put that book together?I know he gets a lot of abuse even now he's dead but that was some achievement imo
  8. I think the distinction lies between sport and control.in Ireland in the main lads worked there dogs to test them single handed mostly.when legal in England many good terriermen done likewise therefore the lads testing the dogs at work and not just as a means to an end to kill vermin had/have the best dogs.If your a farmer keep a few terriers had lambs chickens killed ye use whatever means to catch the culprit.double up trench etc.Same can be applied to some foxhound packs the terrierman has to kill fox the huntsmans not fussy how he works his dogs to get the job done.legally speaking for the
  9. Did MB founder and huntsman of Wensleydale foxhounds not also play a big part in terrier breeding and digging before he fell on bad fortune? If I was writing a book he d be my first port of call. I think also that a lot of the terriers that ended up in the present big names yards came from hunt kennells.Lots of the dogs went and where worked by local terriermen before going out to run with hounds.
  10. Your right 12gauge hepher is an I'll reared ignoramous I've big problems with his lack of manners when we re out digging. However I wouldn't say it to his face as he'd be liable to cut my f@@king head of and drive it up your bulls ass.ever see that film "con air"?Hephers the guy chained to the seat.Lol Thanks 12 gauge I'll have to spend the rest of the day begging him not to fly to America. His probation officer has him eating with rubber spoons already and now this shit will tip him
  11. Ye bull way back Bryan mate but I wouldn't add it now.had a booth bred dog up here 14 years ago and he would nt travel.too much bull.If my dogs get to the stage I'm considering adding bull drive up and slap me lol
  12. We bred a litter out of a black rough bitch to a black slightly broken dog.2 b&t 3 black.we ve a unrelated pup here b&t smooth bred out of 2 rough blacks.most lads who keep patts know their breeding and there's lakie border etc in em so most I know call them "blacks" if they re black or coloured working terriers.the term Lakeland nowadays refers more to the show types.I chatted to a man who seen cyril braey with his first black.he told him the dog came from Manchester and had no bull blood.in my opinion the coloured working terriers are fells as a blanket name.the bone structure of the
  13. Unfortunately most russels need something to fire them.having said that I know of good ones with no bull blood but they re thin on ground.the blacks haven't got to that stage yet let them be I think
  14. Bryan your a decent lad but I have to disagree with ye there.Bull is a hinderence to the blacks,a bully head doesn't neccessarily mean staff etc.keep the blacks free of bull.if ye need to add bull blood there's something wrong with the line and bull won't rectify it.it ll resurface in a few generations.
  15. Most of the real good terriers I had where like that.the drive is real strong in them.I'll buy it if ye don't want it.
  16. Nice one lads I have to admit to having a soft spot for lakie types good to see some consistent working types.bit thin on the ground this side of water.
