Go the pat a hounds

Mate I think you should treat them to a day at the doggie day spa where they can be pampered by the type of people that know how to look after poor doggies in their state. perhaps then you will be able to get back into their good books. Oh and of cause some anger manegment classess for you wouldn't go astray either. you brute. stevemac

The kelpie and the ACD do differ quite abit. The kelpie is mostly smooth collie blood that has been selective breed to suit aussie conditions, very active breed well suited to large open plans comparable to the boarder collie for brains. kelpie is a heading dog ACD was developed in the rangers around the hunter valley from some collie, smithfeild, dingo and bull terrier blood very suited to hunting up semi wild cattle from mountain country will push up and work the hardest of beast. ACD is a healing dog. The to breeds crossed to gether make great working dogs. Hope that helps old

The only valid reason to breed a bitch is when you need one for yourself if every one had that atitude we would not have half the trouble with shelters that we do this is the only reason I have ever bred a litter. age 3 to 5 years the bitch is still young and supple less compilcations at birth. and still of working age and old enough to have provin its self in the feild. stevemac

Airedale pup from Redline working lines
stevemac replied to skycat's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Great topic just some questions on airdales are they open on a trail that is do they give voice when running game? when I spoke with some american fellas about them they said they tend to be very rough at a bay that may or may not suit their style of hunting but as our dogs are expected to find run and catch hogs they may well suit us out here do you have trouble with them being rough when hunting boar in europe are they killed because of it? The only hunting airdale I have known in this country was a airdale x greyhound which was used in victoria as a fox dog. and did very well at it. -
The only time we have been able to catch fox with cage trap was to put live chicken in trop and set leg traps alround cage. work a treat. stevemac

New a fella that had a small pack 3 bassetthounds and to corgis he used them as mentioned above in large blackberry bushes he shot most of what the dogs chased out, but every now and then the dogs would get up on a fox in the brambles, thats when the corgis came in handy as they had a lot more bite then the hounds and took care of the bisness good luck with your pack go and have some fun. stevemac

English bull terrier x greyhound or ebt x anything are the main stay of the pig hunting scene in australia. Down victoria whippet x bully greyhound are very common used as fox dogs. My last litter was bully/staghoundxdeerhound/greyhound, pups are just on 4mths and comming on great. Stevemac

yes mate I new it was a fox hole and a job well done by your dog. Skycat some justy wont learn and will hunt trash as long as they live thats when the blokes I know have given up and shot the dog. you can waste a hole hunting trip looking for a dog that wants to hunt wombats. wombats are a protected speces by the way. Stevemac
-
who needs a terrier A allgame, Ive got mates that will shoot a dog for going down a wombat hole like that. Stevemac

. And if he thinks colliexs are crap for finding+catching, apart from [staghounds ]whats he got any better.???? dont say [kelpie ACD] xs because they no worse or better than good border colliex BIRD Ive had the pleasure of hunting with skippy in the past and he has and has had some very handy one out daytime foxdogs, and while he does own stags the ones Iam speaking of are no more than 25 or 26 to the shoulder. saluki greyhound x deerhound greyhound
stevemac replied to Rabbithunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
High Dan From what Ive seen australian stags /kangaroo dogs and American stags /coyota do seem simular Im not sure our british mates have game as big and powerful as we do other than red or fallow deer. So a dog as big and powerful isnt always what is required over there. Having said all that I have a deerhound /greyhound stag and a saluki and the saluki isnt half the dog the stag is yet time will tell. Stevemac -
Depends on the game you hunt and the land it is on. quick turning game on small land you need a dog to suit. I hunt in to very different areas first is mountainious timbered country dog needs to be 26 to 27inches and agile second I hunt the plains country out western NSW their the optium dog is more like 30inches. with either a great burst of speed or great endurance. stevemac

DOES A HUNTING DOG NEED WORKING PARENTS
stevemac replied to wilxster's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You dont have to get a pup from working parents but it does lessen the chance of a dud. -
Hi HB mabe now and then weve had show dogs for 30yrs but they have all had to work as well, find it hard to keep one that cant.
-
This dog belongs to the misses its her dabble into sight hounds she got it to show and has done it all right so far. the pup has just turned 7mths and gives my stags a bit of stick around the yard so I took her out with my stag bitch. whent to a small paddock about 50m. square and let them off heart was in my mouth as recall isn't her strong suit but she came back ok with my outher bitch so let them run about for a while. when low and behold the saluki put up a hare and the chase was on she did her best but she is no match for a hardened stag bitch when a hare is involved.LOL nice to see she

Do you intend to run him with your hounds mate. Stevemac
