  1. thats the way it looks to the public .. only 1 club i know that promotes lurcher work at game fairs and shows -- the first reply you put up to this thread in my book makes you a tosser .. well you man iam no tosser beleave me, but if you think the modern day show men promote lurcher work maybe you should take a long look in the mirror, self praise is no praise at all! whats with the aussie flag not another one for us to put up with.lol no its not lurcher work and my old mums silky will chase a plastic bag but it puts a good side forward to the public that cant stand the thought of a
  2. Ya cant just come on make a satement like that and f off go on back your argument with some facts blokes here are asking honest relistic questions to try and gleen some knowledge , so if they are no good why are they no good? or are you just another messer on this site. question for those that have them do they give voice while on a trail or when chasing?
  3. grand looking little characters those, are they the go for heavy cover such as reeds and swamps. or better suited to blackberry or other such brambles.

  6. running dogs and terrier for me and the mate have accounted for 90 foxes this season just gone, have land owners ringing us up all the time push the cover and catch em or put them to earth and dig them or bolt them.
  7. Hunting with one tomorrow they are every thing that has been said as well as very smart you can see this dog thinking out situations.
  8. I bet you would have liked to have had your dogs with you over here when you were out with the boys. I did when I went to the states
  9. That"s not the dogs fault that"s down to a shit owner not so sure, man that owns this dog owns a few very good dogs and puts plenty of time into his dogs. We have a saying down this way and that is If its a hand full as a small dog it will be a pain in the arse as a big dog.
  10. I know one and its mad an uncontrolable sheep killer.
  11. Nice little dog that ! Ive got a 21" whippet that takes them he usually has backup arrive soon after but he gets the job done.
  12. These type of dogs a common in Australia although we do not have the preditors here to test a dog like you do. when breeding sighthounds to bulldogs it is very important to be careful with selection of the pups you wish to keep, as you might be after longdog style of dogs but end up with hairy bulldogs. I run to bull terrier blooded staghounds though they are only about 1/8 th bulldog.. you might find you lose a few of these longdog /bulldog hybreds to dangerous game as they will be more inclined to attack the head end of their adversary where a straight longdog is more of a thinker and will
  13. very handsome yound hounds Hope they do well for you.
  14. well we get to try the dogs from rabbit to feral pig and being able to catch them all with the same dog is a challenge as they all present their different challenges. a good fast run on a hare or blue flyer for sheer speed is great to watch, the agility of a fox to elude the dog and make it to cover is also special the hunt up and arm wressel with a hog can really get the blood pumping , hard to pick the best think Id have to go for the first one.
  15. arsoles I learnt years ago to slip the dog in that situation has a better chance to protect its self or get away. one thing for whippets though they a quick healers, all the best with with your dog.
  16. Skycat its very interesting to watch a slow motion film of a greyhound at double suspenision gallop and note how far forward of the shoulder the foot hits the ground and the angle of the pastern as the dogs body travels over the foot. I like your analegy of the angled pastern comming from the horse a sporting animal with a ridged spine.
  17. Well I hate to contradict others and it does go against what I have been taught about dogs front end construction but my 29" 38kg staghound has straight pasterns. hes 3yr old hunts every weekend and has never had a running injury.
  18. My dogs are allrounders and are run on what ever game we come across my mate has specialist fox dogs that make mine look ordinary at times when pushing foxes from cover , but then the varity of game mine catch are a lot more tasty.
  19. What a b*****d bird mabe a bigger stick next time, my son has been hunting a property near home of late where he was asked to remove the feral pigs that live there. So he has tried a couple of methods such as bow hunting and trapping before taking the dogs there to clean up the remaining pigs first time he has the dogs on the place a 2yr old colt came screaming up the paddock to try and kill his pigdogs the dogs managed to just get through the fence with the horse striking at their tails they then went back to his ute and sat on the back. We spend a lot of time stock proofing our dogs as we hu
  20. Im not sure what was going on that dog just went and caught that big hare with out chasing it around a paddock for 1/2 an hour whats the go?
  21. yep some just dont like the taste of things that bite back. Got a dog here shes like that so I dont run here on fox the loves rabbit and hare which is half my sport so I use her then.
  22. call me thick ive only been into lurchers twenty odd year but whats a stag hound please mate ? ? basicly its a long coated kangaroo dog. thats been bred stag to stag for a lot of generations
  23. Mate and I have 7 fox dogs between us all are more than capable of taken there fox with out any trouble. Deerhounnd/greyhound bitch staghound bitch 2x 7/8 stag1/4 bully whippet x staghound Airedalex staghound Whippet As has been said its not the breed so much but the love of killing foxes in the dog that counts. All these dogs love taking them one out.
  24. Right, first we're talking dogs not people so an example using a totally different species is a wee bit pointless, there are plenty of small things that can kill big things, i accept that. In this case though we're talking a dog and fox, which when it comes to being two different species they are actually in build and 'weaponry' etc are actually fairly evenly matched. Now the question was not, could a spoon fed, house whippet who is pampered by and old lady, kill a fox? It was could a whippet kill one? Now i'd say probably not to the example you use, the same with a molly coddl
