  1. True red factors do stay an apricot colour if they are not feed colour food prior to and during the moult.
  2. gnasher its definitely Blue confirmed by white feathers in tail. weather its a fife depends on size and shape but looks like one in the picks. I keep fife canaries and have kept boarders and red factors.
  3. Red factors are a verity of canary that is the result of a canary red siskin hybred that happened to be fertile. a true red factor that molts and is not fed colour food will remain an apricot colour. your bird is just a yellow canary that has been colour fed some people do that out here just to sell them for more money to unknowing people. I would suspect that even when you bough your bird it would not have been the deep red colour of a true red factor.
  4. do your lurchers hang out to pick up bolters or do you hold them back. I know my lot would be in with the hounds.
  5. yeah but they were told its KC registered there's one born every day
  6. if its just a cut or tear in the skin then the staples do fine if its in an area that moves a lot Ill stich it. but if its into the mussel or flesh below then its off to the vet.
  7. As Neal said a kelpie can be used to work cattle and some are to hard for sheep but the ACD is a different breed with a different working manner. I would think doing this cross is to put good traits into the beagle rather than taking anything away from the kelpie. Kelpies are oftern used as finder bailers for feral pig hunting out here so bought up to the work are capable hunters wouldn't say they all would be keen though when the teeth are flying.
  8. ya it was a Australian cattle dog
  9. I Knew of a pair of kelpie foxhounds some years ago they were the keenest hare hunters I have ever seen. I remember sitting with the shot gun waiting for them to drive a hare from the corn one time I didn't have the best perch for a shot but witnessed these to push 3 hares out that afternoon then run them until they caught. Pretty sure the kelpie wasn't pur and was a dingo x. that thing could really run.
  10. I like a cover dog to give a yap when pushing game from cover this gathers the troops and less chance of the fox slipping away although they still try. we also try to keep as quite as possible and keep dogs on leads until we are in position then we slip the cover dog in. by the way we hunt swamps that are chocked up with reeds and the foxes love them.
  11. yes it can be true offtern . though the chap down the road has a stallion in a normal paddock and he is never a bother he is surounded by mares and has had plenty of them maybe he knows they come to him so doesnt bother either way hes a gentalman to work and ride.
  12. a lot of nose and alot of strenght but to big and heavy for anything you have over there. I have know a st bernard x used as a pig dog and he was a cracker and sired a lot of handy pups but no dog for fast game.
  13. I just can not unstand how you lot allow the rspca to be funded by the taxpayer the scumbags have to raise there own funds over here. Which the do with lies and fabrication of cause.
  14. but could it catch a hare i understand the wild pig thing but the reality is, the chances of one coming face to face with a wild pig over here is greater than winning the lottery. ive nothing agains the breed, infact any breed just its usefullness in creating a lurcher and the claims made No Paulas he is no hare dog but a young fella I hunt with that comes on here has a ridgeback/greyhound x staghound that smashes all fast game.
  15. will id better tell the ridgeback in my yard that ripped the arse out of the barstards pants that was trying to steel my car that he is usless and to not do it again. you poms really do need to get your head out of your arses and have a look what really goes on in the world.
  16. thats the kind of cock heads that the internet has bought to hunting not saying there wernt any in the game before but theres a shit load more nowdays. dog works its arse of for you all season the least you can do is feed the dog through the summer or find it a good home.
  17. hmm you would be surprised bull greys more than fit the bill.
  18. Get one for the misses as a pet when its old enough give it a try if it works bonus if it doesnt nothing lost and she has a dog to keep her company while your out. Terriers in britian seem to be like laying fowls over here many breeds are very hard to find now days as every one has the latest and greatest commerical breed and the old breeds are forgottern about just the way of the world. Still is a bit sad to see old breeds of dogs , fowls , horses or whatever disappear into history.
  19. catch a young fox alive and put it in there chook house when they get more chooks do it again when the veggie patch is thriving in the spring may be a dozzen rabbits could visit. not sure if there are boar in your area but they love a nice lawn. its always nice for people like to get to know more about the country side they have moved into.
  20. A question for those in the know as I also have a terrier doing stuff above ground but wont enter 15mnths old from top lines in this country. does it help to give them a look at the fox when its dug to? Ill be give blackbucks surgestion ago next time we dig a fox ive been very patient and not tried to forse him in any way but our season is about to start again and it would be nice if he had a go.
  21. perhaps martmc as sensible answer like the one above doesnt need a lot added to. Will84 its true foxhounds need a lot of ground out here there are a lot of fox grews that use foxhounds and large beagles but those crews have as many a dozen to 20 men to suround an area to be hunted that will shoot or put the running dogs on an fox that breaks there way. most importantly catch any hound on a hot scent from an unseen fox. Some others use small dogs terriers , bassets both the basset bloodhound type and the basset griffin types as well as beaglexterrier types these crews still have a lot of shoo
  22. in situations like that it doesnt hurt to serdate the bitch. carms her down and the pups can keep close for warmth and suckle.
  23. lab or golden retreiver had one had as good a nose as any and handy if it comes to a blew and a big voice to let you know it has a pig bailed.
