Love crossing dogs and have found its as much to do with the individual dogs used in the x as their breed. I also usually prefer second or third x back to the sight hound as being better dogs we do not have working bedlingtons in Australia. do people x the first x back to the sight hound to maintain the speed or are the first x more favored.

Its all very interesting maybe old mate will come up with hounds that can handle a wolf how ever he will need a pack of about 20 of them wolfs like our feral dogs can turn up in numbers and it doesn't matter how good your dogs are if there out numbered then it will end up in tears.

what variety of parrot are they?

The fellas on here have short arms and deep pockets Igryta I could here them gasping for air and having heart attacks as I read this topic.HAHA Its a bit like the difference between pig hunters and fox hunters here in Australia pig dogs command big dollars where the old running dogs even the best of them that might be sold will be lucky to pull a couple of hundred bucks. or even be gifted.

calcium they will eat eggs if she is calcium deprived after laying. cock will do it so he gets to tread the hen again. so make sure they have cuttel fish bone in cage and slip a divider in so the hen can see the cock but he cant get to the nest.

Strange Coloured Rabbit While Out With Dog And Lamp
stevemac replied to rabbitcatcher 1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
when ever rabbit numbers explode over here we start seeing coloured rabbits tan, Black, white and pie balds.must have to do with the inbreeding at that time. -
just a little thing I do with all my dogs when they are pups not matter the type of dog is to get fresh skin from the game animal I want them to hunt. let them play with it while they are little then after they see it as there toy i get someone to hold the dog then drag the skin and let and hid it then let them track it and find it. as time goes on drag it for further and further distances.

Deerhound x greyhound I owned was quick as any I' ve seen and the desire to always be the one to make the catch.

I've kept them they are fine together though the various varieties will inter bred fishers and masks in particular just give the plenty of space and follow the rest of the advice given above. .

Ive owned 2 hilux extra cab utes utes a 2.7 petrol and a 3 litre diesel the 2.7 was a brilliant vehicle walk all over anything britan could put in front of it the 3 litre Diesel was disappointing no where near the power and economy wasn't very crash hot. The full size Nissan I own now leaves them both for dead just a class better again.

I've owned several foxhounds / fell hounds they are very good at chasing feral pigs away and the hounds will follow in hot pursuit giving voice all the way. herding dogs make much better finding / bailing dogs. Pig hunting dogs come in to types hunt / lug dogs and hunt / bail dogs. In Australia many different types of dog will do either job so a boar hound most hunters would not like any form of standardisation however there is moves in some quarters for the bull arab to be standardised into a breed, my personal opinion they would be better served by concentrating on breeding better workers.

I have owned a deerhound /greyhound she was a wonderful dog that took all game there is to offer in Australia. interestingly enough I bred to a I/8 bully/stag just to give a bit more endurance in the wrestle when catching pigs. the deerhounds my dogs are breed from are some of the last working deerhounds in Australia and as far as feet and endurance I would like to see any sighthounds do as well on large game. Deerhounds do not need bull blood to handle there game and some would say it is a hinder to endurance the kill ability of a good deerhound is very impressive The hardest thing these days

the EBT has been the main stay of the Aussie pig hunting seen for 60 yrs as a pure bred they have there limitations but added to just about any athletic breed can give them the bottle to do the require job the early xs were bully cattle dog and bully boxer both very handy in tight cover but just as pigdogs have evolved so have the pigs. all the slow ones have been killed off leaving the fast ones to breed on and xs like bully staghound, bully dane , bully grey and the bull arab are far more common now days

my staghound and ridgeback treed a koala one time they both sat starring up and the ridgeback sung his head off. not something I've let them repeat since but was an interesting experience that happened on a hunt.

Is There Something Wrong With This Dog?
stevemac replied to Minkenry's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
mine wouldn't look at a rat until he was 9mnths old now he's 2.5yrs old you cant stop him hunting them. He wouldn't den until the start of this year but now same story. my own experience is that bitches like to start at a younger age but males not so much. Im sure theres others that are different but that's how mine have gone. -
Hi Penny I judged the wolfhound show in Sydney and there were a few that were abominations but there were more around that 32 to 34 inch mark that were good sound dogs. But after giving a speech how the most usable size for these dogs is around 32 to 33 inches and how hunters desire the traits that come along with the wolf hound they all went off and height measured their dogs and give a trophy to the abomination that is nearly 37" tall. Bloody KC show breeders have no idea. when I said to them your standard says they are not to be as massive as a great Dane they said there not. My reply was t

if you have a bitch put a greyhound over it you might be surprised how quick you can turn out a fare dog. size is quickly reduced but the strength and nose is maintained admittedly they would be way to big for rabbits and rats.

that's the secret Ned alright work with your dogs as a team and having the balls to back them up.

having hunted many feral pig in Australia and having seen wild boar in the states being bailed up by mountain curs hunting with dogs is a very do able thing. in Aus every thing from sheep dogs and whippets to great Danes and wolfhounds are used. Two dogs are best as a pig has two ears one each as it were. a good hunter will protect his dogs with breast plates and neck collars. The Americans like Kevlar but its far to heavy if it gets wet as it holds water. the material that seat belts are made of is far more suitable, stick and tear resistant light and wont hold water, For Those keen to shoot

mistake I made years ago was to have it on them to tight while hunting its great for cutting down the vet bills but a chest plate or vest will hold in the heat and help over heating the dog as well as restrict movement.
