  1. Around here it wouldn't be too wise to keep them outside anyways.. We have coyotes and foxes that rip rabbit hutches open, they'd do the same thing with the ferrets.
  2. I have 3 jills and 1 castrated hob living in my bedroom.. It doesn't stink as long as I scoop their litter boxes every day or two
  3. I've seen the ferrets at pet stores do that.. You'd pull the igloo house out of the pen and you'd find baby ferrets sucking on each others ears.. One poor boy even had the misfortune of having his "thing" mistaken for a nipple ;-)
  4. Vets over here charge $60 for a consultation + the jab.. And about $500-$700 to spay
  5. That is an awesome cage, I'd love to have something that big. One thing to keep in mind though, ferrets can be lazy.. If they are on the top level and decide they need to take a dump chances are they're not going to go through 5 levels to get there.
  6. Have you tried putting some of their poop in it??
  7. Thanks.. I'm SO glad to have the spay over with, I was constantly worrying about her before.
  8. Obviously it doesn't happen all the time. But judging by the votes there is around a 1 in 10 chance.. Which is still pretty substantial.
  9. She had been getting a diet of meat.. Including lots of nice red beef and bloody squirrel.. She was anemic and it didn't make her come out of season.
  10. I nearly lost mine from aplastic anemia.. She went in the vet to get spayed, I'd only had her for a week but she'd been in season for who knows how long. Her platelets were so low one vet even refused to spay her.. Another vet did spay her, and thanks to laser surgery she lost very little blood and made it out fine.. Had she not been spayed she would have died, no doubt about it.
  11. She went into the vet Yesterday.. They ran her blood to make sure surgery would be OK. Her platelets were low, nearly too low to do the spay.. One vet even refused to spay her since they were so low.. Another vet did it and she made it out just fine.. Since they use high tech laser surgery bleeding was reduced tremendously, other wise she probably wouldn't have made it out.
  12. Twp reasons.. One, ferrets are carnivores and they need the protein. And two, if they eat them then predators won't come to do it.
  13. You've still got a chance to spay her.. If you make an appointment within the next couple weeks to get it done. As someone else said, chances are that the kits won't even survive.
  14. I'd be a bit afraid to see some of you around toddler babies.. Most babies go through a biting stage, I've got scars from my little brother. And my twin and I used to bite eachother.
  15. Mine stay indoors, so aside from a flea once in a blue moon they don't have anything. But in a case like yours they should be checked every day or two.
  16. One of my Jills had that.. I started washing her tail every couple days with baby shampoo, for about a week and the fur grew back real thick.. It was caused by oil which made her get black heads, just like a teenagers nose.
  17. If you've got to wash them (if they get crap in their fur or something) use baby shampoo.. Most dog shampoo has stuff added that isn't good for em.. I wash mine every 3 or 4 months with baby shampoo
  18. I've been working my butt off researching and trying to find a place to spay Lucy... I found one place that would do it pretty cheap, but they had a high death rate.. There is a local fund that was created after a dog was caught on fire and it's owners couldn't afford the surgery to fix it... There is apparently someone with a good chunk of change who sponsors surgeries for animals like that dog, between the office manager, her husband who is an exotic vet and the person who funds the surgeries they are willing to take $100 for everything verses $300 She is being spayed next week
  19. Thanks you all! I'm going to be getting her in about 2 hours.. I'll try to get more pictures on Today or tomorrow.
  20. Thanks everyone!! This helps to put my mind to ease.. She will be jabbed within the next few days. I'm gald to be a part of a UK group where there are so many people who have seen a ferret in season, that is hard to find on US groups.
  21. The rescue sent pictures of her Today.. Apparently after she got a bath the woman was able to see that she has a lot more white in her coat. Does she look ok???
  22. We see a LOT of baby ferrets in pet stores like this.. It is likely a prolaps, most of the time the pet stores will moisten their kibble. But I've seen them just dwindle away to nothing, because they take no interest in each ferret.. To make sure that they get what they need
  23. Ohhhhh... I totally forgot, she isn't desented either.. And Path Valley does desent their ferrets. I think all of the mills desent. I'm supposed to be getting some pictures of her tonight or tomorrow, I'll post when I do.
