  1. Around here it wouldn't be too wise to keep them outside anyways.. We have coyotes and foxes that rip rabbit hutches open, they'd do the same thing with the ferrets.
  2. I have 3 jills and 1 castrated hob living in my bedroom.. It doesn't stink as long as I scoop their litter boxes every day or two
  3. I've seen the ferrets at pet stores do that.. You'd pull the igloo house out of the pen and you'd find baby ferrets sucking on each others ears.. One poor boy even had the misfortune of having his "thing" mistaken for a nipple ;-)
  4. Vets over here charge $60 for a consultation + the jab.. And about $500-$700 to spay
  5. That is an awesome cage, I'd love to have something that big. One thing to keep in mind though, ferrets can be lazy.. If they are on the top level and decide they need to take a dump chances are they're not going to go through 5 levels to get there.
  6. Have you tried putting some of their poop in it??
  7. Thanks.. I'm SO glad to have the spay over with, I was constantly worrying about her before.
  8. Obviously it doesn't happen all the time. But judging by the votes there is around a 1 in 10 chance.. Which is still pretty substantial.
  9. She had been getting a diet of meat.. Including lots of nice red beef and bloody squirrel.. She was anemic and it didn't make her come out of season.
  10. I nearly lost mine from aplastic anemia.. She went in the vet to get spayed, I'd only had her for a week but she'd been in season for who knows how long. Her platelets were so low one vet even refused to spay her.. Another vet did spay her, and thanks to laser surgery she lost very little blood and made it out fine.. Had she not been spayed she would have died, no doubt about it.
  11. She went into the vet Yesterday.. They ran her blood to make sure surgery would be OK. Her platelets were low, nearly too low to do the spay.. One vet even refused to spay her since they were so low.. Another vet did it and she made it out just fine.. Since they use high tech laser surgery bleeding was reduced tremendously, other wise she probably wouldn't have made it out.
  12. Twp reasons.. One, ferrets are carnivores and they need the protein. And two, if they eat them then predators won't come to do it.
  13. You've still got a chance to spay her.. If you make an appointment within the next couple weeks to get it done. As someone else said, chances are that the kits won't even survive.
  14. I'd be a bit afraid to see some of you around toddler babies.. Most babies go through a biting stage, I've got scars from my little brother. And my twin and I used to bite eachother.
