  1. i have noticed a few like this an go to chase them to get them moving and they dont budge.chaped a few over the head last night. looks grim. we onlt put 900 birds down and this pen houses 600
  2. guys we have a prob at our shoot,we have been finding dead or dying poults that have clear liquid coming from there mouth that smells awful, and they are all painfully thin,we got our birds the start of june and all was well then we got some bin end bird that hadnt feathered well or grown that well that we released 3 wks later. these batch were not treated for gapes as the first 900 were,we only got a 100 of these bin end birds. and all the dying ones are at the same pen we released them at. some of the dead bird are well feathered and a good size but all very thin. what can this be???
  3. well i have had my wee dahatsui terios for a while now,my mate has one also, and before i had mine wee done all the lamping in his,and wee took it into places you wouldnt dream, good for getting turned in tight spaces, good turning circle for getting through tight gates. we have had the terios up to its neck in mud and still pulled itself out, with the dif lock switch, its and added bonus to use if u do get stuck. and this is with normall road tyres. id recommend this, though my only trouble is,for other types of shooting, pigeons, wildfowling. it just lacks a bit of space, this is the old model im ref

  5. what to do is,if theres not alot of water lying around, flood your fields and get the duck coming into the flashes, where they can dive for the grain and alot of it will come to the surface also,if you are not allowed to flood the field then wait for a bit of rain till you get some flashes, chuck a few deeks in and sit on your malllard call and pull some in. thats only if theres duck in the area, your best bet would be wild duck though reared mallard will rarley move from the comforts of there own pond, where they are fed every and are as fat as butter.

  7. fowling is a sport that can be quickly given up,being muscled out by local guns who will always know where the birds are and where to be for a shot. these locals are the people that you want to try and be friends with. 5 seasons ago i ventured back into fowling starting from the bottom, walking miles and not getting a single shot or lucky to see anything. you have to keep at it,try and get in the mix with locals see what the birds are doing. the trouble is you have to really study the shore yourself and work it out for yourself, not alot of people will let on where the birds are feeding and t
  8. mossberg 935 mangnum semi auto? what kind of loads were you putting through this for shooting a few pigeons? as this is a magnum gun did it not struggle to cycle the lighter loads??
  9. because the duck prob have full bellys and dont need to come back until morning, there sitting on the river through the day and flighting off at night most prob.the time you will get all your duck coming in is when the flashes and ponds have frozen over and running water is all they can find. you could try pushing them off in the morning in hope they will come back at night, but i think the majority of the duck will go to fed flight ponds or mabie not fed flight ponds as they have been sitting feeding on your grub all day. try not putting that much feed down so that they rush to come back.and tr

32 g steel no4 for ducks over fed flight ponds will do you with 1/4 choke, for geese off the shore try remi nitro steel 1 9/16 oz or 1 3/8oz but these are loads for a 3.5" shotgun. ive yet to try the hevi shot but alot of people swear by it, so if its a one off trip why not just spend that little extra on the hevi shot for the geese. steel will be fine for the duck
  12. well there is talk of putting 1000 down next year with the shoot captain on early retirement will be up there most days looking after the shoot, but as you say 2000 acres will just swallow birds. and with other shoots surrounding us its easy to have them wonder? would anybody advise putting a mixture of ringneck, melanistic and blacknecks to see which birds hold better???? there is alot of the shoot that we never even touch as we dont put hoppers down, so the birds in my opinion will just keep on wondering over our boundries to the bordering shoot and find there hoppers, but as somebody said du
  13. you are full of useful info steven,do you think these boys are stupid or sumit????
  14. this shoot blakloks is on about use to be a commercial shoot that belongs to lord annandale, but we now rent it off him to run our own shoot. its 2000 acres and could quite easily hold a few thousand birds and in the past probably has with keepers working. this is our first year, but the shoot has been running for 6 years and we are suppose to be back to basics as last year was a disaster. this year we put 300 in one pen,200 in another pen and 100 in the last pen. all the pens sit in the middle of the shoot with neighbouring woods that we class as main drives that havnt had birds in them, the

  16. was out shooting today rough shoot for pheasants and woodcock, but the min i let the dog out the jeep all he wanted to do was fight with a springer that was also there. my dog is becoming more and more aggressive and will not put up with this. thats just one of his problems the other is not listning to commands while beating. but that can be worked on,its his first full season and unless he gets a grip will be his last. any ideas as to why he is aggressive? how can you train a dog to work in a wood and not stray to far flushing birds when he is not suppose to? i use him for wildfowl

  23. sorry to say that anybody that shoots the solway should pretty much know where to go and where the usual bits are to go,so me putting them on dosent make the slight bit of differance, when you have some guy asking me to tell him exactly where a certain bit is im not likely to put directions on the forum am i? anybody who wants to shoot the solway is more than welcome but you dont realise how easy people get upset, i have found this out just recently. so i would like to end this thread now by saying anybody who wants find out where a certain place is dont ask on a forum get off your arse and an
