  9. Have you had them long, maybe they weren't handled enough when they were kits. Keep handling them regularly and they will soon come round. Try handling them after they have fed, i find they are a bit more lethargic with a full belly (sometimes) . ATB Mick
  10. I like upstream nymphing for grayling using czech nymphs or a green hotspot shrimp, using a partridge and orange fished across the flow has worked for me too, if the river is deep or fast flowing then i would use weighted versions of these. Also a grey duster (tied parachute style) is a good dry fly i find. When going for brownies, in a river, i have used many many flies but tend to have my favourites; dry flies- gold ribbed hare's ear (parachute), sherry spinner, grey duster. Wet flies- mallard and claret, pheasant tail nymph. If i were fishing a river for the first time i would probably star
  11. Just a word of caution regarding you wanting a .17HMR for fox control. Firearms officers in our area don't consider it a fox round. I'd go for the .22. As already stated you will not be granted .243 on that permission mate. Happy hunting. ATB Mick
  12. Hi Rob, Me and a mate fished up Sutherland 3-4 years ago and it was fantastic . We stayed in a B&B the first night in Lochinver and got some local info before setting out(invaluable). Some lochs have a boat on and cheap to hire. We fished a couple of lochs up in the mountains, staying overnight at both, as well as the local river, for wild brownies. Tackle used was; Orvis 9'-0" 5 weight rod with matching reel and floating line. this was ideal for both river and loch. We took hundreds of flies of all different sorts; wet, dry, large small, ones specific to loch fishing and lures, you n

  20. I started sit/stay when feeding my spaniel and when he had grasped the idea that he got his food after staying put, i moved the sit/stay out in to the field. The spaniel i have at the moment is a rescue dog, so i know where you are coming from with training a nervous/timid dog. The sit/stay technique i used was to, sit him down using the raised hand, palm facing the dog and command sit. Then take five steps back from him and repeat the command and hand signal. Once he was happy with this the next step was to walk around him keeping the same distance away and continually enforcing the hand and
  21. Hi Bigthug87, you say that you have done very little with her, have you sorted the basics: sit/stay and recall? These need to be done before moving on to retrieve. Just my view. ATB with her. Mick
  22. I agree with most of the above replies, KC registration is certainly not the first thing i would be asking about when looking to buy a dog. Dam and Sire's ability in the field and general health are more important imho. PS how is the ferreting going? ATB Mick
