I have a friend who is doing exactly what your thinking of doing, he was a HGV lorry driver, and last march he decided to become a farrier, the dip is a 4.5 year course, he is a year into it, and is yet to 'shoe' a horse, he is still 'clenching' up with a qualified farrier, and earning £120.00 p/w !
