Ive got a Remmington 700 sps in .223 its a great gun ive had it for just over 3 years and its stood up to all weathers and terrain i now have a Timney trigger on it aswell which improves it alot as the standard triggers can be quite hard at around 4-5lb on some.I picked mine up for £800 including a silencer on it all new and ready,But as you say the Tikka is a great rifle too, both worth a look.

Thanks for the replies i will let you know how i get on tomorrow.

As most people have said spend as much as you can on the scope as i have learned as i had a £200 scope to start with and 3years later im now buying another more expensive sight as the last is not as good as it was at first. But remember get what suits you and the gun best and your wallet.

Im off to the gunshop tomorrow and ive got 2 scopes in mind for my .223 as my MTC 6-24x56 scope is being replaced after 3 great years of use as i want to buy a decent scope while i can, The scopes in mind are a Zeiss classic 2.5-10x50T or a Schmidt+Bender 2.5-10x56 the gun im using is a Remmington 700 sps and its mainly for fox's and long range vermin and will be used for lamping a fair bit in the winter months. Any pros and cons welcome thanks.

Nice fox so is the silvertip the style of bullet or the name for the gun,Ive not had my 2010 fox yet with my rifle yet wont be long and plenty to come.

You could always buy the clulite scope adapter which will hold the lamp ontop of your scope also allowing you to move the light side to side or up and down but get the right size because they make two models one for scopes upto 25mm and the other is for 30mm plus.Ive got one of each one for my smaller scope on the rimmy and one on the bigger scope on my foxing outfit.Just look on their website.

Im thinking of getting a new scope for my Remmy 700 .223 are leupold as good as some of there ads say im looking at spending about £600, Ive currently got a MTC Viper 6-24x56 which has been great its just a bit big and bulky and i keep catching it in and out of the cabnet because of the raised turrets, It will be used for lamping and daylight shooting for mainly foxs but some bunnies when needed i was thinking of the VX2 - VX3 range 4-12x50 duplex or 4.5-14x50 duplex or even the LR duplex i have a leupold brochure im looking at,or should i try other makes.Any advice welcome.

Sorry for the late reply my computer has been playing up but im back,it was six cases that stuck after i had shot 3 in a row at a target i cant remember if they were from the same box because i took the last 4 from 1 box and a handfull from another. when i got back to the car the temp was reading -4oc,but as stated they are factory ammo and i dont use anything else as these have always been good for me.ive not been out with it since my last post and am having trouble finding a chamber brush any tips welcome.Thanks.
-
The bolt head and lugs are clean apart from todays use but there is a very small amount of dirt around the chamber were the lugs turn when cocking the bolt,i have had scratches on the empty cases before but they have ejected ok.Thanks for the reply.

Went out for a few shots with the Remmy 700 sps 223 today just to keep my eye in good job too i was shooting about 3" to the right for some reason at 150yrd,Also for some reason 6 of my bullet cases were hard to eject and the bolt would not pull back the empty cases to eject,Still using the same ammo would it of been down to the cold or could it be a bad batch of ammo. They are Remmington accu tips 50grn these are the only bullets ive ever use ive not had this problem before.

Nice pics there we dont get snow like that in cornwall very often, Ive shot 56 grey critters in the last 7 outings down on my local estate with the rimmy/air rifle great fun, im getting my 14yr old nephew into shooting he loves lamping at the moment and his best shot so far was a 74yrd rabbit with my rimmy.

I have got both as i have a Rem 700sps .223 and Cz american carbine .22 R/f and a Miroku mk70 12bore o/u and 7 Air rifles in my collection.

Has anyone used the ATN PS-22 night sight that clips on the front of your scope,Just asking because my friend has a starlight sight which goes on the back of your scope a gen2+ which the quality is great and he's shot lots of lamp shy rabbits and foxes out to 150yrds but i dont like the fact the sight goes on the back of your scope making you have to move the scope forwards and needing a stock exstender this makes it awkward if you want to then use the gun in the daytime as the scope is so far forwards, any feed back welcome as i like the ps-22 setup and im thinking of getting one soon. Thanks.

Use an air rifle i shot 16 in 3 hours last week on my local shooting estate walking around the pen. also try walking around chestnut trees are a good place to look at the minute had most on the ground or about head hight looking at me. I use a BSA SUPERTEN in .177 good out to 40yrds and more if the conditions are right great on pigeons to.

I would strongly recommend a Edgar Brothers 3-9x50 scope and Sportsmatch mounts ive had this on my rimfire for about six years now and shot hundreds of rabbits with the lamp with it and its had some rough conditions thrown at it. Weather and bumps + scrapes and its just so reliable non of the i better check my zero ive just missed a few bunnies maybe ive knocked it again. Also try Hawke 3-9x50 AO IR ive had this on my spring airgun which recoils more than my rimfire its also very good i think and its hit the mark time after time for a few years now and been trouble free. But if you want to spend

Been out a few times and seen a small light in the sky so it seemed about 20ft up on one farm after going out a few more times to the same place we sneaked up in the dark to see what it was and it was some bugger out trying to pinch bird eggs with a led head torch on,Also out one night trying to get a problem fox and for some reason we could here people very near by so put on the light and found it was some runners who had got lost we soon explained we were shooting and they vanished quickly back on track. Also seen the od albino white badgers about and lots of shooting stars.

Hit my shoots heavy in cornwall in may one evening me and a mate shot 40 over 2 small farms and they all had mixy we was gutted. Then we went out for a mixy cull and had loads more about a week later.

Hi there i shoot with a 223 but not a howa but get on very well with Remmington accu-tips ballistic tips 50grn get about 1" drop at 200yrds when zeroed for 100yrd but if i cant get them then i use 55grn soft points from remmington but they are a bit louder out of the silencer. Most of my friends use 55grn federals i think there called V- shock and they work very well to. And trust me the foxes hate them it can make a mess of them sometimes.

what shot size for shooting rabbits
Tobias replied to lurch46's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I prefer 5 - 6 32gm for rabbits and pigeons seems to work for me and ive even had the odd fox with 6 shot at about 20yrd face on in my 12bore Miruko o/u. -
Ok thanks for the replies everyone sorry i never got back yesterday got stranded yesterday for 5 hours my car broke down after a day out as you can imagine i was a bit peed off. Just one more thing ive read that there can be a lot of problems with the R700 trigger if reduced to 3 lbs has anyone else had any probs and yes when i e mailed remmington they said the trigger was non adjustable and not recomendid. Also i will check some of the sites listed above thanks again everyone.

Can anyone help me please i want to get a timney trigger for my Remmy 700 sps as my trigger's break is fairly high i tried it on my fishing scales and it reads on average 5 - 7 lbs but its not just that i would like it to feel as light as my cz rimfire and my air guns as they are all set from 3 -4 lbs. The problem i have is i can only find the right trigger on there american site and not at any gunshops near me in cornwall the one i want comes with the safety on it. Also has anyone else got a timney and are they as good as some people say. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the replies everyone,Just let me make myself clear im not saying an air gun wont kill the vermin im after as i often shoot alot with my air rifles im just trying to make it as easy as possible without damaging anything around the area im shooting and making sure i can get a clean one shot kill as ive already shot most of the feral pigeons around the farm with my air gun and know the black devils wont land in range for the air gun most of the time. Im also using a CZ 452 american 16'' .22RF and will be testing the new bullets out for re-zero and range when they arrive i will keep you

Thats great thanks ive just found them on the RWS website it say's they are perfect for close range and indoor shooting so i will phone the gun shop tomorrow and see how much they are and if they can order me some up.

Can anyone help me please ive been shooting my rimfire for a few years now with the same old winchester super x hollow points subsonic but ive been asked to shoot some vermin in and around the farm buildings the trouble is the air rifle just lacks the stopping power and range, its mainly jackdaws and crows,i was hoping there are some low powered rimfire bullets i can use that won't richoshey so much or travel so far as i want to keep the farmer happy by thinning the black devils out.
