Thanks for the replies i will have to look into it a bit more before i buy and will also try the Zeiss range if they are about the same price.Just one more question for anyone who might have the answer i have got a S+B 2.5-10x56 on my 223 and when i zoom in the cross gets bigger and blocks out small targets but all my other scopes the cross hairs stay the same and just zoom in is there a special name for this as i dont want this type of scope for the 17HMR,Dont get me wrong its a very good scope for foxes and is great in low light just not what i want on my 17hmr.

Well as stated im looking at getting a new scope for my 17hmr just wondering if anyone has any comments on the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50 mil dot or the same again but in 4.5-30x50 mil dot or even the Elite 4200 4-16x50 multi x are they good enough for the 17hmr and are they reliable and maybe in the same class as the Leupolds as they are made in America as well, ive tried to look on the net but could not get much info or prices. Any comments-info welcome thanks.

Nice choice of gun but which model did you get? ive recently got the 1517 with the thumbhole stock and 14" barrel great gun and so light and small ive now had to get a wildcat whisper mod on mine which seems fairly good but early days yet and i think my old scope on it might be on its way out. When i first zeroed it i aws hitting 10p groups with ease off the bipod at 100yards but now its wondering a bit as i said the scope could be on its way out.

Is it just me or anyone else, i never had anyone come and see me for my variation when i added the 17hmr on my licence but i already had 223 and 22rf on there and even when i bought the new gun no one came and checked it over.?

I went out last night- evening on my local farm and had 15 all before dark with the 17Hmr i thought i had them down to a steady number back in in march/april in this field and was seeing nothing when lamping it and the farmer was impressed but last night was like id never been there at all, out again tomorrow for another go,Also my friend has some land we go on and we had just over 200 in 6 evenings/nights aswell with the nightsight on his 17hmr and my 22rf great fun.I dont normally go out for big numbers but this place needed cleaning out before he drilled the new maize and the hedges are loo

Tobias replied to Urban Fox Control London's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
That makes them look more like toys and i bet that cost's a bomb to get done, each to there own i guess. -
As some of you will know im after a good moderator for my 17Hmr well ive spoken to a few shooting friends of mine and after having a chat i came away with a question for you all as im not clear on the answer.Lets say ive got a moderator approved on my licence and buy one and then want to get a newer better one say for the 22rf or the 17 hmr do i need to tell the local fao or apply for a change of moderator, or does it not matter if you change makes or types eg screw in or over barrel type.

Ok thanks for that Deker, im not having a dig at Wildcat mods in anyway before anyone might think so just saying my Pes is less noisy than the wildcat my friend has on the 223's and was wondering if the same could be said in the Hmr mods as in this range they are both about the same price,Also does anyone know if the wildcat whisper over barrel will fit on a Anschutz 1517 14" barrel its the heavy barrel type. Thanks for the replies.

Has anyone tried or got a Pes mod on their HMR ive read they are the best on the market at the moment and the Jms arms site looks very good they are priced between £135-£198 over barrel type or screw on barrel type i have a pes on my 223 and its better than my friends wildcat on his 223 just need more opinions please.

Where can i get a DM80 and is it as good as a wildcat whisper ive tried the wildcat cub and its rubbish on my Anshutz hmr with a 14" barrel made my ears ring and the Sak is only a little better i thought.Does anyone make a good/great mod for the hmr that muffles the blast noise alot will spend good money on the best if it makes a big change.

Thanks for the replies ive done it now and all seems well ive zeroed at 100yards then adjusted it to 1" high at this range which is also about 1" high at 50yards now its done i was getting grouping the size of a 2 pence coin with ease at 100yard with Hornady 17grn ballistic tips [blue]. Cant get over how loud this round is even with a Sak moderator its almost louder than my 223 rifle by ear is there a better silencer for it i hope so, I know you cant stop the supersonic crack but you must be able to silence the muzzle blast a bit better i hope.

I am hoping to collect my Anshutz 17hmr tomorrow , my question is do i need to bed the barrel in and keep cleaning it after every shot for say the first ten shots or just zero it and try to enjoy it ive picked up some Hornady V max 17grn and some Remington 17grn accu tips to try out,Im thinking of 100yard zero does that sound about right, Any tips welcome thanks.

They can be a pain in the ... ive shot a couple over winter, years ago as they had been a big menace on the fishing lake but i must admit there was about 12 of them on this one lake they keep pinching the anglers bait off the surface and ive also caught one myself when fishing there it got caught in my line when float fishing they are quite small when in your hand and can dive under water for while to needless to say i returned this one safely as it had chicks in the water.

yes i have got a mod on my 22rf and my 223,i think i stated this for a reason on them too but cant remember if they ask then il explain why i need one for shooting. Thanks again for all the replies

Ive got this outfit for beating and shooting ive had my kit for about 5 years now and its still good it only leaks a bit on the elbows now as i do alot of rifle shooting -vermin control they now have have a new version out i think its the pro 2 kit which is slightly darker green and stronger material. I would get another one for certain maybe this year.

The wam fox call works well for me and my friend but this season the fox's never seemed that bothered by the call but the next farm over from us has some other shooters who can be heard some nights calling for britain this could be the problem. Also works well for stoats and magpies.

Nice one thanks for the replies so quick, as said ive not had to do the paperwork for a while and i think thats what i said the mod was for last time fingers crossed for the next few weeks now.

As stated ive just put in for a variation for .17hmr i have already got a 22rf and 223 just wanted something for the longer range rabbits and vermin without costing the earth,The problem is im not sure ive given a good enough reason for a silncer in section B 19 when you state what you need and why, ive put i need a sound moderator for ear protection just hope they will accept it the rest of the details done ok i hope been a while since i filled out the forms, its been nearly 2 weeks and ive not heard any reply hope all is well.

About 10yards with the 223 in the middle of the day was sniffing around some gorse bushes i was stood behind, nice pop in the head. The shotgun was closer at about 4 paces away my friend was calling in the summer evening with his rifle on the hedge and i was stood beside a gate post and he was on the other end of the gate about to jump through until i let him have it and he rolled back about a meter,if i was,nt there he would of got away cuz my friend had his back to it while calling.

Sorry for the late reply but ive not had much luck in the way of info apart from looking on the deben site or the main site which is ATN and the od look on youtube, hope this helps.

Yes the £700 was for the rifle alone, sounds like the CZ are very good and at a good price too i cant find the 16" model is it still a 452 or has it changed,Also i have a 22RF CZ 452 16" american and love it and also have a 223 Remmy 700 and just wanted a gun with extra power over the 22RF and range for the likes of crows and rabbits as it can get expensive with the 223 at a pound a shot but the pop and impact is worth it most of the time,Also ive heard you get alot less richochets with a .17Hmr which sounds safer. Can anyone say if the Anschutz is worth the extra money in the long term e.g. l

Can anyone help me please im thinking about getting a 17Hmr added to my ticket, The problem i have is call me fussy but i would like a carbine version, barrel length no more than 16" before adding a mod.I was thinking about £700 or maybe a bit more for the right gun.Ive looked on the web but cant find much maybe looking the wrong places.

with a mod or with out a mod...
Tobias replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I use a Pes on my 223 and its very good, effects the balance when shooting free hand but on sticks or bipod its great and works very well makes the difference of shooting more than one fox in the same field as i have many times over and long range rabbits also alot smaller in diameter than some other mods on the market. Also use a silencer on the 22RF would'nt be without it but its not a pes but still excellent. -
I get on very well with RWS superdomes in my pre charges and RWS superfields in my spring guns in .22 and .177 they will kill all vermin as long as you can do your bit and hit the killzone as all pellets,Best to find a pellet you are happy with and can hit your targets with confidence then try it on your vermin, good tip for rats would be flatheads or hollow points as they hit very hard at close range, hope this helps.

Well ive got my new scope and boy it was a hard choice, after nearly an hour looking at the sights ive gone with the S+B 2.5-10x56 mailny because of the 56mm objective lense which should be better at letting extra light in when lamping and late evenings shooting the only thing i liked more about the zeiss was the weight it was a few ounces lighter, also for me the S+B seemed to have that extra edge when zoomed up on high mag. Now got to wait till monday before i can try to zero it weather permitting.
