That is some serious shooting bet he never misses much on the big foxes, I would guess they measure the distance with a range finder, Thats some nice ground you shoot on there too.
-
Just had a quick look on the other section and spotted a bit of info on a ban of shooting woodpigeons, Im a BASC member and never new nothing about a ban as its just getting good were i shoot for pigeons and they are all over the rape at the moment. So can i carry on for pest control reasons as i dont want to get in trouble for it.

Very nice pics love the 4th pic,my dogs look great in the snow but the j.russel feels the cold fairly quick he's a short legged fine hair little bugger and the springer she is just mad in this snow.

Happy christmas and new year to you all and thanks for being so helpfull over the year, Safe shooting to you all.

Just a quick click noise with your tongue or a quick cough both have worked well for me and yes it gets your heart thumping when they come running in and ive seen some very close shots missed because of this.

Are you using a 223cf or bigger,i shot a few last winter normal black crows with dead rabbits as bait and the 223 and man did they pop well my best was 137yards,now i just use the 17hmr for the same job still good results.
-
Very good info there thanks deker,I will now let him have a go on my shotgun when out if he wants but only at targets until he gets confident with it.
-
so does this mean i could legally let my nephew who is 16 have a go on my rimfire if i was sat next to him on land i have full permission on? at the moment he just uses one of my air rifles with me.
-
Is the scope for a airgun or a rimfire? If its airgun then anything from 4x40 upto 3-9x50 or bigger if you want and 3-9x50 upto 4-16x50 or anything with a 56mm objective could be used on both guns just depends how much you want to spend.

Is the .17HMR more accurate than the .22LR?
Tobias replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Cant really say one is better than the other for me as my CZ452 22rf is very good and effective to about 80yards and at 50yards its clover leaf off the sticks,Then the 17Hmr Anschutz 1517 i have is deadly at 100yards off the bipod and i dont need to worry so much about the richo as the 22rf and i can easily shoot a 2p size group at this range. For me i like the 22 for the closer rabbits and when noise is a problem or around animals- buildings, and the 17hmr for the longer range crows/magpies and rabbits that are to hard for my other gun. -
Thanks for the great replies,I cant mount the lamp underside of my barrel as there is not enough room between mod and stock. I will try the tape on the lamp trick as i never found a flower pot close to my lamp size at home but will have a look at work for one. Thanks again for the comments everyone.

If i use a pot is it the whole thing minus the bottom end and how can i still use my filters with it on ?

As stated im having trouble when lamping with my Anschutz 17hmr i have the clulite shootalite on my scope and i cant see past the glare very well as the light is causing a blur in the scope. Its fine on my 22rf no light glare at all. Could it be down to the very short barrel ive tried a neoprene mod cover no good and ive tried a bike innertube still got glare. Ive even tried a small plastic sleeve around the outside edge of the lamp still no good. I must use the 17hmr as the shots are about 100-120 yards, Any tips welcome.

Try the clulite website they have some good ones for airguns and rimfires or the deben site.

Lets hope the first one on the left has a empty gun or she might jump if she pulls that trigger too hard,But yes great picture.

Ive got the 1517 Hmr thumb hole stock and 14" barrel and whisper mod and i cant fault the blue tip Hornady ammo in my gun i can shoot bottle tops and 2p coins with no trouble at 100yards off my bipod on 8x mag on my scope and ive also tried remmy ammo and not much different except its more expensive so im sticking with the blue tips, could be a bad batch of ammo try it another gun and see what happens if you can.
-
Dont try the wildcat cub its a load of sh-t nearly made my ears bleed was a waste of money took it back and got the whisper in 17hmr cal . Its loads better no more ringing ears and shot loads of groups of bunnies from 50yards out to 120 yards might not be the best but its easy to clean and take apart.

while out lamping the other night we heard a loud shreek/screech so i turned on the lamp and there was 3 foxes no more than 100yards from us so as my mate got ready to take a shot, one of the other foxes tried to mount the one he was going to shoot so he shot as the other one moved off one dead fox but the other 2 only bolted about 50yards up the field and stopped to look back so my mate had a second one quickly. Once we picked them up they were both vixens so we laughed thinking lesbo's and got into the next field, on with the light to see another fox sat looking at us about 140yards chest on

Are you lamping the same fields alot or has someone else got shooting rights on your ground aswell who is also lamping,I always find it hard out lamping if other people have been out on the same ground with shotguns scaring every thing with shots and they relate the danger to the lamp light.Must admit we always shoot more when lamping on foot rather than using 4x4's but it depends on your fitness and how much land you need to cover both work well. I normally use the 22rf with mod rather than shotgun for lamping.

Cleaning instructions for Beretta O/U?
Tobias replied to nessie122's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Are you the same chap who done the clip on the Anschutz 17hmr with the S+B scope on it on youtube. -
Sounds like they are worth getting so ive saved 100 at the shop which i will get when i collect my rifle. Ive been told they are going upto £12 a box very soon so i hope the price stays the same for me. Just seems like forever and its only been 2 weeks since i dropped the gun off and im waiting for my fac to come back so i can get my new moderator put on the shortened barrel. Then its re zero time and look out foxy and maybe the odd bunny.

Great scope had mine for 4 years now, was on my 223 but now lives on my 17hmr its taken some great shots on both guns and i use it what ever the weather, my only fault was the free scope caps you get with it so i got some others and its fine now.
-
Thanks for the reply. I would love to try them its just my gun is out of use as im having some modifications done to it and the place thats working on my gun is were the bullets are for sale.Problem is i dont want to buy 100 to find out they dont shoot well in my gun i hope they will as i have a 1 in 12 twist rate. Which ive been told is better for lighter bullets.

Has anyone tried the Hornady V max BT 40grn in 223 (Red Tips) Just wanted to know how good they are up against fox's the box said they are about 3400fps just was not to sure on the bullet weight and stopping power compared to my normal 50grn accu tips. The shop who is doing my barrel work for me is selling them at £9 for box of 20. They looked pretty good but you cant always tell without trying and i know every gun is different. If i get some it will be alot as the gunshop is quite a drive for me and i dont want to buy aload of c..p if you no what i mean thanks.

Well ive got a question as some of you might know ive been looking at getting my barrel shortened on my 223 and have finally found some where local this is not the problem, but what the gunsmith found is not good he said the internal part of the mod is badly coroded to the thread of the barrel and has started damaging the crown and also the mod is not in good shape and has advised me to get another. My current mod is made by Pes and so i called the firearms HQ today and they said put in for a one for one variation just on the mod and fill out the forms as normal,Now section 19 states where do yo
