  1. Had one for about 6months but i can't shoot it as accurately as my Barnett Strike 9, for sum reason it shoots to the right alittle, but has more power than the Barnett, so the jury still out for me on it. For cheap lead moulds go on ebay is the fishing section type in lead ball moulds should cost no more than £10+postage
  2. I'm not trying to say that the hornet is the right or wrong choice but is it the SAFEST option. Since Blackstairs Boy has given no details of the land he intends to shoot over, ricochet and over kill are a real possibility with a hornet. The hmr has a much more fragmentable bullet and upto 130 yard will do the job on a fox (zeroed at 100yards it is 0.1" high at 50 yards and 2.5" low at150 yards). At the end of the day it will be upto the police which calibre he can use. But if he has the option he must take into account. (1) is the land stoney/rocky (2)Is livestock and public nearby (3)Do I kn
  3. Having shot both 17 and hornet,, the muzzle velocity of them both from factor loads is around 2400-2500 it is only when you start to reload your own that you can start to push the velocity upto 3000 depending on bullet weight. If he is only going to use factory loads most 17 will group 1/2" to 3/4"(fragment far better), where as the hornets is around 11/4" to 11/2". Yes the hornet is better for foxes and if he is prepared to reload his own it will be cheaper.
  4. If you are going to shoot corvids and rabbits most of the time go for the 17hmr because they are more accurate and shoot alot flatter than a hornet. If a hornet is zeroed for 100 yards by the time it has reach 200 yards it will be 7 inchs low. Has long as you shoot a fox between the eyes and not a body shot(heart/lungs) the 17hmr will do the jod fine out to 130 yards
  5. Had both 12 and 410 hushpower shotguns (pedretti type). Did not like the 12 bore one because it was difficult to shoot at range. 410 far easier to shoot. The 20 bore might have a better site picture down the barrel? But £760 for a investarattle (investarm) is far to expensive. If I remember rightly the warnnener used a under/over moderatered 20 bore for shooting foxes near built up areas .
  6. Question which is best. I have used both types of smokers for flushing rats from there holes and each time I find chainsaw smoker works best. The smoke seems to work through the borrows quicker and i think the noise also help. People say they tend to break down, most of the time it is just a fouled plug and carrying a plug spanner will solve this. Petrol and oil is far more easier to get a hold of. Rat attack smoker is lighter in weight, but seem to be more difficult to get the smoke down into and through the borrows and flare up are also a problem. The fuel and oil are also less availab
  7. No truer word spoken by Deker. .17rem very flat shooting but need to put the bullet in the :hunter:right place and barrel foul up after 15 round and burn out like 22-250. 12 bores with full choke and 3" cartridges BB or 1 best up to 40 yards. Any of the .22 centerfires will do the job 22-250 and 220 swift very noisey and the barrels can burn out. 222 and 223 not much between them. One that is often over looked is the .22 hornet good for 200 yards moderates very well, cheap to reload. Can reload them for subsonic rounds right the way up to 3000fps. But will not make the grade for deer. 243 wil
  8. Like shootiing with odd calibre .17rem, .22hornet, 410 and catapults also into game and seafishing

  9. Has an one used soft baits like storm shad ,sidewinders, minnows, eddystone eels or jelly worms if so how affective are they?
  10. 10/22 was of money get a bolt action more reliable and accurate
  11. Its illegal to shoot vermin on Christmas Day you muppets.
  12. :11: Nice set of catapults but do you Know how to uses them :11:
  13. You need to use really hard shot to help reduce pellet deformation in 410 cartridge because of the high pressure and long shot column. Plastic wads will always give you a better pattern. The problem with full choke in small bore guns is the choke forces the shot to bounce across the barrel make in the pattern to increase in size. :headshot::
  14. Co2 guns are no good in the cold. I have a TR Robbs converted XS78, Great in the summer but it is put back into the gun cabinet for the winter. Eley wasps work really well in my gun for about 25 yards. AA fields and Exact are good to I have heard
  15. Crimped 410 cartridge will always out shoot the crappy roll over ones but the cost is ridiculous. Must admit winchester 21/2" are my favorite and have had some long range kills with them in a normal barreled 410
  16. Only get a 12 bore if you entend to ferret( best way to get on top of rabbit numbers ). FAC air rifles very expensive not a great increase in range over normal air rifle. Hmr noisey ,need to be a good shoot to justify them. .22 rim forget semi and get a good bolt action and look for ammunition both sub sonic and hypo velocity (stinners, yellow jackets) which shoots well in you choosen gun. I could regular take rabbits out to 140 yards with a Bruno bolt action with remmington yellow jackets.
  17. Spiderpigs right. But the problem with the moderated shotguns (I have owned and shot them for the last 10 years both 12 and 410) is the barrels are drilled and this damages the shot as it travels up the barrel, but if you use cartridges like winchester or fihiocci which use a full length plastic wad to combat the above problem the wads can get lodged in the baffles at the end of the barrel coursing damage to the gun. Eley and Gamebore are poorer cartridges 20 yards max for 21/2", 22-23 yards for 3". Eley 3" sub sonics are crap you are better just using the normal Eley 3" . Also remember you do
  18. Had one, do not rate them, far better to get a border cross either lakeland or jack russell. Had a border/lakeland bitch about twenty years ago scare of nothing, would hunt anything, started at 6 month old and fast. Got a border/jack russell at the moment 3year old, was slow to start on rats but rabbits, etc no problem. This year he won terrier racing at Raby Castle Game Fair, he ever beat a whippet over 100m on the sameday. He blood fast and can caugh rabbits singlehanded

  21. A simply and cheap way to increase the accuracy of any catapult is to make a custom-built handle. You will need about 2oz of FIMO modelling clay which can be purchased from most hobby/craft shops. (1) wash your catapult to remove grease and dirt. (2) work the modelling clay in your hand to soften it, then place around handle, hold catapult as if you were going to fire it and squeeze. Remove excess clay and smooth off. (3) REMOVE all rubber and plastic from catapult. (4) Place on foil in a pre-heated oven , no hotter than 110c for half hour (5) allow to cool and replace rubber HAPPY SH
