  1. Hello! Okay, after some practice I can put pellet on pellet at 40 yards with my AirArms S510 in .22, but at 50 yards the groups gets wider, only by half an inch or so. I tend to keep keep all my rabbit shooting within 40 yards for ethical reasons, but what about pigeon? If it's too far to maybe risk a head shot, would an upper body shot do? A 22 pellet packs a fair bit of knockdown power so maybe a heart/lung shot would still zapp it. Body shots on pigeon with a .22? Alrightee
  2. There are ongoing problems with "Blank" firers anyway...yours are NOT, they are black powder revolvers, only conditioned for use at the the range apparently. The chance of you being able to use them elseware for almost anything else is remote to say the least. My suggestion is you are acting outside the law and therefore potentially up for a lot of grief. As already suggested though, a phone call to you FEO or Firearms department should answer your question 100%. I would be interested to here the result when you get a definitive answer! I phoned. Nope, range use only. I
  3. How willing are the police normally to grant open tickets for FAC air rifles? I have my own land, plus alot of permission, I just can't be arsed to go and get the letters from other landowners. Not for an air rifle anyway. Cheers
  4. Well, I own two black powder revolvers. One in 32.cal and the other is a 36.cal. Since I can't normally wait untill the weekend to fire them , what is the law regarding firng blanks on your own land? I own a few acres you see. Would it be legal l for me to fire them, without a projectile, with just some black powder and a bit of paper wading? I wouldn't actually be firing anything out of the barrel. The law states they can only be used at the range, but the law doesn't mention whether I can discharge them my own premises if it's only blank rounds. Sometimes I just need to pull that trig
  5. I shoot a Turkish horn bow. It's great fun and very accurate. The thumbring draw takes some practice though.
  6. Can BP revolvers be kept in ordinary gun safes with the shotguns and rifles or do they need to be kept in an ammunition safe? Thanks
  7. I meant maximum range for penetration. I wouldn't shoot at ranges I wasn't comftable with anyway, well not with a living creature. Is 50 yards pushing it?
  8. What's the maximum range for a 12ft .177 for pigeon, crows and magpies? I normally use the shotgun for such quarry, but I need something quite for around my farm buildings, so I brought an airarms s410. Also, where is the best place to aim when shooting a bird? I've been told that headshots produce the cleanest kills, but also that neck shots work better. Cheers
  9. 50 minutes watching someone shoot rabbits? Yeah, brilliant. £4.50 postage!?
  10. FAC or not? Surley not, it's weaker than a 6 ftlb air pistol. Derringer Rider
  11. Yes, a puntgun is an type of shotgun. You would need an SGC for it as it has an smoothbore barrel. Most puntguns have a flintlock mechanism, so you would need an explosives licence to be able to purchase black powder in order to use it. I have a 20 flintlock bore fowler
  12. I hate to say it but that is a whole different cap and ball game :stinker: Yep, very funny LOL On a serious note?
  13. If I decided to add an antique gun to one of my licences, would get the gun be safe to use? Would its value decrease if used? Thanks
  14. Well, I've come across a fine pair of percussion target pistols that I'm intrested purchasing, but my knowledge regarding the law on antique firearms is a little hazy. I know there is some form of exemption for antique firearms, where the exepmtion allowes a buyer to purchase fully working firearms without a licence, but I'm not sure if this covers all percussion weapons. Does anyone have any knowledge of the exact particulars? Cheers
  15. I must get a copy of the eley shooters diary. Is there anything on the internet which is similiar in showing bird sizes at different heights? Cheers
  16. Okay, I'm in a bit of debate with someone regarding the shooting high birds. My maximum range would be to around 40-50 yards and nothing higher. The person in question has limits that are far more optimistic than mine. There is a video I found on with one gun taking a high bird. It's a european video by the look of it. The sequence is from 1:24-1:28 What range would you say this bird was taken at? Video Cheers
  17. Thanks Sporting Shooter. I have a few 28g, Hull Pro-ones's left to use so I will take them next time I go out. My gun is fixed choked so I'm confident I can kill out to 50yards.
  18. 7's are all I ever use for anything feathered I shoot at now. I do shoot the odd box of 6's or perhaps 5's, but I have 6500 No.7's left to be fired I find they produce fine kills, I use Trap cartridges, 28gr No.7 with a superb pattern and fast velocity, more than enough penetration I'll have to try it then. What range are they good for? Thanks
  19. I think I'lll just stick wit the no.6's. I've shot hundereds of pigeons using them and not had many runners. I was just wondering if anyone used no.7's and what results they had. Cheers lads
