  1. I think you're right, when Countryboyo first posted a picture of the kits I thought they didn't look as robust as what they should have. Country, try getting a pair of kits from somewhere else, sorry you lost those two.
  2. A bit of a bite is no reason to kill a ferret, soft buggers Wish the worst thing I'd ever been bit by was a ferret. Worst ferret bite I ever had was a tooth through my thumbnail, the hob was pissed and not wanting to let go, just gave him a quick dip in some water and he let go. Never bit again and if I'd knocked him on the head for that one bite, I would have been cheating myself of a great worker. Dip in water if handy, Stubby's method works well also
  3. I would add more rabbit to her diet mate, there's not really much meat on the head of a bunny. Try her on an entire front end and see how goes.
  4. Yes they can catch it. If you think you have it just take the same caution you would if you had any other flu, don't excessively handle etc. http://scienceblogs.com/notrocketscience/2...more_severe.php
  5. Good luck with your wee kit, I hope she gets sorted out alright.
  6. Ah. Do Path Valley ferrets have tatts? Pretty unusual in any case, I guess all will be revealed when she goes in to get desexed. ATB with her
  7. Have done so many a time and never seen any ill effects. I've eaten them as well.
  8. Are you 100% sure she is intact? Only I was thinking that is is very unusual to find an intact jill in the USA and Adrenal disease [common in the US] can be responsible for a swollen vulva and 'signs' of being in heat.
  9. Yes it was a first for me and if it had been daylight I would have waited until he surfaced. But it was getting dark and there was no way I could have watched that particular warren at night. you did the best thing any one can do i donr it myself mate the best and safest way that was . of you wait at night he will be miles away by the time you look at all the holes. glad you got him back Thanks mate Yeah it felt bad leaving him on principle but I was confident that he would be waiting when I went back in the morning.

  11. I was out for a spot of pest control a few days back and at the last warren [30-40 holes] my albino hob killed under and was likely stuck behind the rabbit. Digging was impossible due to a lot of rock so after waiting for six hours it was nearly dark and there was nothing for it but to block him in for the night and go back in the morning. There was plenty of large rocks laying about so stopping them up securely was no problem. The next morning I went back and lo and behold he was waiting and very eager to be out. What's your protocol for dealing with a similar situation? Situations whe
  12. Mine happily eat rabbit, hare, pigeon, duck [domestic and wild], sparrows, mice and once a big old feral cat.
  13. All the best with them, like the look of that albino.
  14. I would keep with the daily handling. You say its nipping more than really nailing you so no need for a glove. Do handle it before or after feeding?
  15. I start them at around 6 months, yours will be old enough.
  16. I've already started. I've permission on a spot of land that the farmer wants the bunnies completely removed from...there's a few about but under a lot of cover and in big sandy warrens with a lot of rocks [no digging, great, eh?] Went out yesterday to do a few warrens and ended up with a bag of ten with a good many killed under. And the albino hob decided to not show his face for five hours so he got blocked in for the night and picked up this morning. Hard won rabbits, but its got to be done! Anyway the main line up is: -Polecat hob -Dark eyed white hob -Albino hob Got a few o
  17. Get a bowl, don't like those bottles at all.
  18. There is no "flu/cold type virus", the viruses that cause both are quite distinct. In particular the rhinoviruses that cause colds are species specific, so unless by some magic you've managed to catch ferret cold your animals are quite safe from your human cold. does nt this read that ferrets are quite safe from human cold? so what is ferret cold? Y.I.S Leeview Colds that ferrets get, I reckon. It's not exactly hard to understand, is it. The viruses that cause colds are species specific, as are many other viruses. Who's ever heard of a human dying of canine distemper for inst
  19. RIP Brian [Gentle], seemed like a good bloke. Condolances to his family and friends Good luck in the Happy Hunting Grounds, may the game be plentiful and all your old working animals there to hunt for you.
  20. That's a real shame mate, sorry you lost your workers and kits.

  22. Trust all of mine with me completely, never ever worried about getting a nip, can't say the same about trusting them with other people, most are fine but I have one jill who will give others a good bite. Funny thing is she's good with kids, but not so around adults. And if they try to touch her without introducing themselves[ letting her sniff hand] look out!
  23. not a sniff mate would you drop two hundred quid cash down a hole in the ground??? this is fooked up this, has this ferret got platinum covered turds or summat??? The price isn't why I would refuse to work them, [wouldn't sell my ferts for 200 quid after all and they spend a lot of time down holes], but them poor genetic nightmares wouldn't be able to work properly IMO, can you imagine one trying to work a hedge set? Or even a set that was a bit muddy. Money making scheme.
