So how old are those eggs likely to be? How long of a delay is it possible to have between the eggs being layed and when you start to incubate them or put them under the hens? How long does it take them to hatch and how soon do you know if they are males or females? It sounds like a real interesting past time but a pity i don't have room. Good luck with your eggs.....let us know what happens with tem.

Good luck with your pup, take good care of her - the effort you put in now will show in the future. And well done the members who have given good encouraging advice to this lad, who is obviously young and will appreciate the help and encourgement.

Dogs Rolling In Shit And Vile Things: They 'All' Do It:
littlefish replied to a topic in General Talk
My bitch is very enthusiastic about rolling in stinky things, dung etc. She usually finds the weirdest things on the local beach - dead fish, hedgehogs, seagulls and even shitty nappies left behind by dirty b*****d tourists. The oddest thing yet was a dead dolphin that was decomposing on the beach, its abdomen was burst and there she was in the distance rolling like she never rolled before, looking up when i called her before diving in again head first. I then had to spend about 20 minutes throwing sticks into the sea for her to swim and retrieve to try to get her cleaned up a bit before the -
Thanks for that Miles - that looks pretty much like it. The bunny is still runnning free. Thinking realistically that rabbit is probably about six times as heavy as the rabbit!

I saw that before, so did not sit and watch it again. From what I remember it went on for quite a long time. It's probably a risk of the job...... If that was my job i'd probably prefer to have a colleague standing by with a gun rather than a camcorder!

Mine's the same! I think if they are allowed in the house, you just have to get used to it. Mine gets combed everyday outside. Also i've noticed his coat is much improved and casting less since he started getting oil of evening primrose 2-3 times a week at Xmas time. I try to keep mine in parts of the house where there is no carpets and furniture to climb on. I wouldn't be without the wee git, he's a real character but I do see the attractions of a dog with a darker coat.

That's good news. Glad he wasn't run over by a car or stolen.

Firstly, sorry I don't have any photos but maybe if I describe what I seen this morning, some of you folks could help? I was looking out my window this morning at about 9 am when a bird of prey landed on my fence about 15 ft from where i was. Now, to me this was a fabulous and fantastic sight. I had never seen a wild one up close before. I live in the centre of a town but round here there are areas of trees (with crows nesting) and people have shubs etc in their gardens and there are lots of small birds - sparrows, starlings, tits, finches etc about at the moment. It sat still for about

As i understand it, a farmer only has to think that a dog may worry livestock on his land and he is entitled to shoot it.

Ditch - that is such a sad, sad story, a real heartfelt tribute to somesones little scrap of a dog, i'm sure she will be missed. I hit a dog one day in my car, a farm collie, it just ran out of a hedge and under the front of the wheels. It got up and ran on home, but I tell you, I was in a state of shock. It can happen so quickly with such tragic consequences.

Don't know about the numbers you can keep but if you dogs are causing a nuisance it CAN be a problem, especially if you live in a terrace/semi. You say they don't bark, but are you sure they don't do it while you are out? It may be worth setting a tape recorder a few times just to check for peace of mind. Also your dogs should be under control and your place kept clean and hygenic, that way if the council officials come to call you can smile and show them your well cared for, well behaved dogs in their clean environment . People who lived along my street had two unneutered collie dog

Good luck with your decision. If I had to, i would prefer to have a dog and a bitch living in the house, from my experience i find this more harmonious than two bitches with their bitchy hormones, competing to be boss. By the way, to make to easier, if the dogs are in your house GET THEM CRATES TO STAY IN - IT WILL SAVE YOUR HOUSE AS WELL AS YOUR NERVES GETTING WRECKED!

I covered my bags of potatoes last week because of the warnings of snow.....I had a peep under the covers today and....the first shoots are now above the soil! I think i'll keep them under cover for a wee while yet, just to give them a good start. I'd hate to get caught out by frost or snow.

Speedlamper...........What age are you? Mermaids are FANTASY figures.

Thanks for all the replies, as I say, this is my first time growing spuds. By the way, i'm growing them in bags because thats what came with the seed potatoes and they are handy because my back yard is completely concrete - that's the way i like it - no grass to cut and easy to clean up after the dogs. Iv'e also started some onion, parsnip and tomato seeds, they are in a little greenhouse.

Heavy stuff but i also agree with you. I firmly believe the issue here is about over breeding, and i do blame bad breeders (or puppy peddlers, as they should be known). For these people, materialism comes before a life. Prevention is better than cure. If there wasn’t so many breeders in it for the cash, we wouldn’t have such a large quantity of surplus dogs. Some truths written there. Wilf mentions China...........differentt attitude to dogs there alright! What is the answer?

I saw it on a documentary recently where a rich westerner (maybe American or German) paid maybe £50 000 to shoot an elephant in some African country where elephants occasionally needed to be culled. The hunter got the trophy kill of lifetime. The government got the money. The local tribes, who lived a nomadic lifestyle got to strip the carcase - it showed kids carrying of lumps of trunk, old women with buckets of blood and entrails - nothing was wasted - everyone was a winner..........except maybe for that particular elephant. I thought that documentary came across ok

Right folks............. I am having a go at growing my own potatoes for the first time. They are in compost in black plastic bags - two seed potatoes in each bag as advised by the seed provider. My question is this - do i need to feed/fertilize them? The shoots are not up above the soil yet but should i feed them and at what stage? All advice appreciated.

Only switched on at the bit where Louis was in the hide deciding on whether or not to pull the trigger....it looked like he was aiming at semi-tame animals feeding out of troughs and eating hay? Did i get that bit right? Seemed a little unsporting with not much hunting involved? Anyway...........iv'e seen some of his programmes before, he does seem to be a clever enough fellow...........seems to make peole make themselve look like pricks very easily.............but then again, maybe some people don't need much help.

I love to see a dog do a proper well and be useful, should it be guiding the blind, sniffing out drugs/explosives, finding lost people and ESPECIALLY helping to catch crimials....the scourge of society. Iv'e read that poilce are using the belgian shepherds in Britain now, partly because the breeding of GSDs (show standard breeding) has ruined the physical attributes of many of them and they also have to look to eastern europen countries where they have not been compromised yet. Anyway, after seeing them in action i don't plan to become a criminal.....GO FETCH ROVER!!!!!

If you take away the eggs as they are laid do you put them in an incubator if you want them tho turn into chicks? Is it the heat of the chicken sitting on them that makes the chick grow inside providing they are fertilized? Does it not work if they get cold?

Saw a snippet of her on last night - pink tracksuit, silver puffa jacket, ginger hair, freckles and her mouth going like a hand bell..........classy or what?

I keep my dogs indoors unless i am available to supervise them in the garden - i would not like them to be stolen or tortured by local kids. I live in a built up area, as i'm sure many others on here do, and feel it is my responsibility not to cause noise nuisance to the neighbours, thus the use of electronic collars at night, early in the morning etc.

Bad news lad. At least you took him to the vet as soon as there was a problem and gave him every chance. Good luck in the future.

How old is the dog and how long have you had it? Surely if you like the dog you could give it a chance to gain a bit of physical condition over the summer and worked on a bit of training it might be worth the effort next season? Keep us updated on his progress.
