For people who feed their dogs on dry dog food
littlefish replied to WHITEYrs4's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Now that is a complete rip off, you could feed yourself for less. Surely feed raw meat and you could cook your own cheapo rice to go with it would be half the price and be better for the dog. Hi shepp, better for the dog? He has difficulty in digesting food, if he gets anything other than the stuff he's on(the rice etc contained in it has been partially broken down) it causes inflamation of his lower intestinal tract, causing him no end of bother, he drops weight & has mucus running from his bottom. Having seen him go through a terrible time of it with the other foods I'd -
Mine get BARF about 95% of the time. I have been feeding this way now for about one year and i don't think i will ever go back to dry - my dogs are in such good condition. Regarding feeding bones - since they started on barf their teeth have never been so white and their breath so sweet smelling - well, as dog breath goes

That's disgusting! Some people really need their hands smashed! Hope your son is ok. I know the police don't care about a stolen dog but might they be interested in grown men driving around in vans approaching little boys?
-
No, ha, really. I don't have any children - never wanted any - but i do work and pay taxes to keep plenty of them - those that belong to those who bring them into the world then do not face up to their parental responsibilities!

If you breed them.............feed them!

The tag idea is a great idea On first thought, yes it is, but i think it is naive to think it would put them off theiving a dog. Let's face it, if they are getting it for nothing (theiving) they may as well take a chance, what the hell. My bitch is speyed but i challenge anyone to find any scars on her abdomen. I was stopped while walking along a road with my dogs and a transit pulled up and two characters ran back to me 'nice dogs are they for sale?' 'No' i said they are only wee pets 'do you breed from them?' was the next question. 'no' i laughed and lifted my dog to show them his

Lurcher training, how hard?
littlefish replied to markp76's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
are you saying you call call any pup back at the age of 12 weeks wish i could mat no way have i ever seen this he or she will do it if there is no other dog or person around but never if they are around I think a 12 week old pup needs a lot of one-to-one work and encouragement. Remember, for your dog to pay attention you must make yourself interesting - play with it, reward it with treats and praise and keep training sessions frequent and short so that the pup does not get tired or bored. If it runs off when it is outside the saftey of your house or yard keep it on a lead until it k -
How many of you would get a Lurcher from a rehoming centre?
littlefish replied to Hollie's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I had a look through that site. I thought it was a shame that there seemed to be so many ex-breeding pedigree type dogs on there - obviously used to churn out pups for the going rate then cast aside - puppy farmers disgust me -
Good luck with your dog but it might be safer encouraging your dog to retrieve something less dangerous than golf balls - it is too easy for a dog to swallow them. My friend's dog took ill and when it was x-rayed foreign objects showed up lodged in its digestive tract. It required an operation to remove them - it turned out the dog had swallowed a couple of golf balls and large stones - quite expensive!!!

What sort of dog is it and in when you say it looks 'wormy' what exactly are the features you are worried about? Is your dog thin? Has it lost condition recently? What age is it? You say the wormer hasn't worked - what wormer did you use?

I buy big bags of frozen mixed veg from the likes of Tesco and Iceland about £1 for 1-2kg and just throw a handful of it into each dogs meat when i am in a rush or i don't have handy fresh veg (defrosted first, it does not take long to defrost) That way it is easy, clean and cheap. But you can always see the bits of sweetcorn ha ha!

The above post states that the livestock were being worried.
-
I think you'll find a farmer does have the right to shoot the dogs if they are worrying his livestock, like it or not.
-
I would definitely put a roof on that. Imagine if those hounds spotted a cat on that wall............up, up and away they would go!
-
Just my opinion - but if they were able to shoot four dogs (without the fear of shooting the person supposed to be in contol of them (because then they would really have been in trouble with the law), it makes me think that these four dogs were running loose and at a distance from the handler. Surely anybody with any sense of responsibilty would not let four dogs run like that near sheep for twho hours regardless of whether they were 'stockbroken' or not - that is just asking for trouble?

Hmmm.... questions that come to mind immediately:- 1. What sex are they? That will play an important part - boy and girl? Two girls? Related? 2. Are they part of your family, ie live indoors with you or out in kennels? 3. What did you do when she bit? 4. Are you having her spayed - was she in season at the time? They can go very odd during their season? 5. What game was the child playing with the dog? What were the rules? Was it a game of dominance or I'll have that toy? 6. How does she behave on a lead when she meets other dogs. 7. What is her position in the family? D

I feel for you Kay. I was in a similar situation at the weekend only my terriers (who were on leads) were approached by a Rottweiler. I repeatedly called to the little man who was walking a long way behind his dog with his hands in his pockets to call his dog as it approached mine. 'He's not causing any trouble' the prick replied. It walked right up to me and stuck his face down into the middle of my dogs - i tried to carefully shoo it away but my dogs went at it. Luckily it turned and ran away but i tell you it could have turned nasty for my dogs and perhaps me in the middle of it. I fel

I don't see much wrong in that. If you haven't been drinking then you have nothing to fear from the breathylzer. Any one on here had a friend or relative killed or maimed by a drunk driver?

My bitch used to pull the blanket out of the bed and wet on it then lie on it despite having lots of time outside everyday. It was just a little habit. Some dogs might just like the smell of it - just like they like to roll on all sorts of stinking things. Mine stopped when i took the blankets away and she just lay on a plastic bed - it was still up off the cold floor and i think they do get an amount of heat back of the plastic - mine are kept in the house by the way. She grew out of it in the end.

Nice dogs manipulus. They look like' real' healthy dogs that have the physical ability to do a days work. Not like the UK Kennel Club types with little stunnted legs who look like freaks, hardly able to carry their bellies above the floor. I like the look of the fawn/ginger one. Please keep the posts coming.

Oh yes they can..........they can achieve injuries!

My dogs are small Jack Russells. I often feed them on chicken wings - one chicken wing would be quite a substantial feed for each of my dogs but i notice if i don't feed them on veg as well they seem to have difficult passing dung after a few days. I buy bags of frozen veg in Iceland where it costs a pound for quite a big bag. I let it thaw and mix it with whatever meaty stuff they are having. They get vegetables of some sort most days - garden peas, brussell sprouts, carrotts, tomatoes or cabbage, usually i just lift out a bit extra of whatever veg i am going to cook for myself. Does any

littlefish replied to adskibullus's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good luck with him. It might be a good idea to work on training him not to chase horses.
