  1. Oh that! My mate puts coursing vests on his dogs sometimes so he can see them better at a distance. They use them here at coursing meets to differentiate the dogs, they are very light and lycra.
  2. A few more pics from the field kazahk tazi and kurdish saluki left to right
  3. Not riding to hounds in the conventional sense but I and a couple of friends are getting a mounted team together for falconry on horseback here in New Mexico. I have a foxhunting background my twin brother has been a master of the Meath Hounds in the past but this is a new venture for me. I have just started getting falcon and horse comfortable together but in the next 2 weeks we should be in the field hunting. I would probably be at already but my falcon is recovering from injuries from a coyote attack while she was on a hare kill and needs a bit of rest. Here is a pic of us doing the intodu
  4. Today I started training the falcon to work with a horse, she took it very well in fact she really didnt give a crap about the horse at all. All the best terence
  5. They are rare some over in Arizona but I have never seen one. The coyotes know I am hunting hares and want to rob the bird if they get a chance. If the dogs are at the kill with the bird then all is good but if the dogs come back to me the falcon is vunerable on the kill if coyotes spot the action. That is what happened to the falcon she was on her own and didnt get out of the way of the coyotes fast enough. I mainly course along the edge of the city and the urban coyotes have little fear of humans. Just recently there have been attacks by coyotes in Denver on adult humans, and a young w
  6. I run a kurdish saluki and a 3/8thgreyhound 1/4kazahk Tazi, 3/8thcollie lurcher. My mate runs a Kazhak Tazi, a saluki/grey and a smoothcoated staghound.
  7. Those are blacktailed jackrabbits but i have also hunted whitetailed jackrabbits. I have also taken 3 species of rabbit in the USA. Back home in the UK I also ran all the usual stuff before I moved over here.
  8. Just for grins my lurcher drawing a jackrabbit!
  9. I was wondering that surprised there is not an accident 2 dogs and a bird piling in. Great to watch the way they work mind I might ask how you train a dog not to kill a ferret in the field? Socializing and conditioning them to each other is the name of the game. While it can look crazy when everyone piles in I have caught 100's of hares with falcons and dogs and the birds have never got a scratch. All deaths and injuries in the field have been done by coyotes. My current falcon is recovering from being grabbed by a coyote 3days ago and is lucky to be alive.
  10. The destructive power of a hit by a prairie falcon has to be seen to be believed this pic is of hares head after a prairie hit it.
  11. She is faster than the dogs alright but they do catch them too although mostly they help the falcon despatch the hare and keep it moving during the chase so the hare cant just hide in a bush. Do you have any videos of your hunts mate ....... Nothing newer than a few years ago That will do mate get them up .......... there you go

  14. It is fine for the bird with the dogs on hares, the real danger is coyotes, my new falcon is recovering right now from being attacked by 3 coyotes on her kill and is very lucky to be alive. She got bitten in the face by one of the coyotes and is sore all over from being dragged around. her first kill 3 days before she was injured, she picked this hare up by the head and carried it 20ft!

    Hares

think you will find thats not a hare our hares would make 3 of that pathetic excuse for a rabbit I have caught plenty of brown hares with harris hawks and other hawks and falcons also blue hares, blacktailed jackrabbits, whitetailed jackrabbits and 3 different species of rabbit. As you cannot even identify a hare albeit a different species, lay off posting until you know what your talking about mate! All the best Terence
  21. It will be a good feeling for sure, he is pretty close to being ready just want to see him take a few more head and improve his footing and chasing then he will be good to go. In the meantime he is a fun bird to have around very mellow and keen to chase everything. Next year I think i will take a female ofr falconry at this same stage as they seem to be very easy to work with when trained at this stage. Out in the wind, he flew at a hare right after this pic daft bird. Hunting sparrows in their natural habitat! Only pigeon he has held pulled tail feathers on eight now I think. This
  22. i am currnetly rehabbing a male coopers Hawk that was found floating down the Rio Grande almost drowned, at the time he was not quite hard-penned and had not begun hunting. As a consequence he needed hunting practice to get competent to survive in the wild. I have been hunting him for about 3 weeks now and he is taking quarry but not yet ready to go it alone so a few more weeks hunting are needed before release. Here are a few pics for your enjoyment. All the best Terence
