  1. unbelievable! you get it if you jump / you get it if you don't, we're talking about a show and slagging show ponies, it'll be my dads bigger than your dad next....suppose that's the emerald isle off the holiday list
  2. have you seen the pictures? theres not many of us i'd describe as new...............
  3. maybe why i understand your commitment so much i've had running dogs 30 odd years and talking to a mate last night the same age who's gonna be looking for wife number 4 if she moaned about his dogs, i'm just hoping to be able to continue jumping fences for a few more years but again thanks for the enlightenment
  4. andy your honest reply earlier impressed me but ffs this post, the pics, stories and history just keep getting better
  5. some more pics............ every week we'll have a guess the baldy comp........this weeks prize is a brush and comb set
  6. ace there is so much interest, spoke to young mj today who says he still has the old club traps, maybe a thought if things get going eh. thinking about it theres loads more to come, jamie didn't know, matty's runnin scared, felix would come, theres also loads from out and about, brechin, forfar etc. we'll need to get oor heads together bob and get this sorted
  7. heres a few pics from earlier, whip / grey's missus took them on my camera, if you like them its the camera if you don't it's all her blame.lol

  9. fascinating to see the breeding, 'bulpa' seems to be a strong influence
  10. many will, given half a chance, a lot depends on how theyv'e been fed and schooled, ive got one that would and one that won't, but they have opposite attitudes one hunts for me the other hunts for herself
  11. a couple of genuine questions, all the guy's here seem to be real hunters and put plenty of game in front of the dogs, would they get the same results with other crosses / types?. what are the pups like when mated to a different type or strain, ie a coursing type or greyhound deerhound etc?
  12. soft beggars i presumed the 14mile would have been on soft clay but flat grass....jackers
  13. That's always going to be the problem sadly but there are writers out there (Suffolk Bill, Welsh All Black, Colin Didriksen, Paul Dooley, Chris Breen, Simon Fairclough...I could go on) who do manage to write engaging and interesting articles that go miles beyond the "dog chased rabbit" standard and that's what makes them good articles I suppose. You come away feeling as though after the ten minutes spent reading their piece that you know a little bit more about them; about their life and how they interact with dog/quarry/nature. That's a real skill. Some blokes write straight factual stuff
  14. ace topic guys, top class pics, don't really care what name theyr'e given but crackin dogs, keep the pics coming
  15. what i want from a lurcher may be a little different to a courser from the fens, and a fox hunter from farmland may want something else again, it's not about who's best or has the best dogs it's about sharing differing views opinions and experiences, it's the variety (right or wrong in whoevers opinion) that keeps this site worthwhile........remember wer'e all supposed to be on the same side guys
  16. i understand what your saying but where do you draw the line mate? bob's 1st cross is a cracking racer 40 odd pound bred by so what you'd like him but he does hunt him more than he races especially in the winter. i don't think it's a black and white issue thats why i think its easier and less hassle to let them all run
  17. i think that would be my first choice if i could find a worker lots out there mate bigland boy seems popular and whip / grey on here has one and i know his rabbits every day cos its on my permission ( watch out for the mantraps bob) and paddy (he was bred by sowhat on here out of jack the lad) has thrown well to a variety of bitches his latest litter are to a wheaten cross bitch and they look real nice, i believe all 9 pups were spoken for at two days old thats gotta say something. yea and iv got one of them 7 weeks old and cracking black bitch going to be rough coated ) get a pic of t
  18. jeff, youve hunted non peds for ages have you had many injuries?
  19. scratch racing is the purest form of racing possible imo, no starts, no second prizes and no excuses, i cant understand people who complain about non peds entering lurcher races or un tatooed greyhounds etc your dog is the best on the day or its not .........simples
  20. but back in those days we could course on open grassy fields and not need to worry about who was watching
  21. i suppose we all play a kind of russian roullette every time our dogs run, my young bitch got lucky this morning and come away with just bruising and a graze, the thing with non peds is they really are just so fast, (if anyone reading this hasn't seen them i'd recommend a visit to a bank holiday open or similar) a slower stronger made dog like my collie cross takes knocks in her stride that would retire a non ped, kc whippets are a little stronger made and also slower so wont injure themselves to the same extent. the big difference in their breeding is kc bred have been bred for generations f
  22. Having been a around bwra racing whippets my opion is that they are very fine built as they have to be, to get a big a dog that can run well as light as possible. This means they are not as robust as a kc working whippet in my opinion but i would think are much faster pound for pound. You could have a 21" bwra dog whippet running at 25/26lb a kc working type of that size would probably be over 30lb. I used to give my fathers racing dogs a run on the rabbits odd times but they were injury prone so he stopped me taking them out. Sounds daft but i think they are probably to fast and lightweight f
  23. You're right, 'Roxy ! I still go to the "dogs", (Whippet Racing), on a saturday morning, and get into arguments about 55lb, half x greyhounds being called Whippets !! My usual reposte is "there has been smaller Greyhounds won the Waterloo Cup " !! But I still love it; it's dedicated dog men and women breeding, training and racing outstanding dogs !! So fair play to them ! Cheers. can i add charti, not just the men and women but whole families grannies fed them, kids walked them etc. without a doubt it's the best family orientated sport bar none, a weekend at the championships or one of
