  1. the missus was followed the other night by a shady looking transit that seemed very interested in our dogs, she didn't get the number but they'll get a shock the collie cross will bite but i just hope the scumbags try when i'm about..... i bite worse
  2. i'd try and gee him up a bit first, maybe let him see another dog chase / catch or even let him see a couple running away from him, that'll let you see how strong the chase instinct is, don't give him a 'dropper' far better to let it happen in the heat of the hunt so to speak. atb
  3. have you seen the new irn bru advert? i wish i could put up a link to it........thats a hint for someone who knows how
  4. sorry to go off topic a wee bit but i have no experience of straws, how high is the success rate? do they need to be used by a vet if so can any vet use them or indeed fill them?
  5. does that hairy dug have fleas Haha cheeky feker, (it`s Rake oan Kitts pc) It wisnae fleas it was feking midges, Holy crap!! We wur inhalin them bud, the poor dugs were tortured. i recognised him theres no many like that is there? you should have gave the mutts a fag the smoke would keep the beggars away
  6. pisser mate, i know how you feel, but sounds like you had a cracking time together
  7. a nasty bite from a squirrel could set a sensitive pup back months, it has been said but be cool.....let it be a pup continue with the bonding, recall, obedience, retrieving etc and it'll all come good
  8. Im in agreement with most of that,i like whippets, ive seen what good uns are capable of,yet, ive also seen what they lack.A good smaller type lurcher,to me,is a better option. Fairplay matey, i'm not going to argue with that, but so far, i've yet to see a small lurcher better than my whip at hunting up daytime. Some of them couldnt find game in a telephone box. I'm not taking anything away from Flinn he is bloody good at hunting up and when out he WIll work a whole mountain for ya and if there's even a trace of life there he will find it but my observation about one spectrum of Lurcher
  9. so there has been bedlington, bull, deerhound and collie blood used some maybe way back and without wanting to open a can of worms.....any hancock blood?
  10. i have a lurcher that works the lamp off the lead, stays at heel till sent on, the same bitch works cover like a spaniel maybe a bit big but she goes where she can, as a rule i can keep her within shotgun range, using a gate net she works sometimes depending on the size of the field hundreds of yards away and takes hand signals if she's struggling. i would say imo and experience they can tell not only night and day but lots more as well including the weather and differentiating species when out working. ive had whippets do similar perhaps not as good as a collie lurcher but they too can learn
  11. No glammis28th & 29th july thats the same weekend as jedforest hunt 29th july heard ther is no lurcher show or racing at glammis, this year correct me if thats wrong ,have enjoyed it in the pass but might give it a miss and go to jed instead as it was a good day last year Glamis has NO Terrier or Lurcher show this year but they have asked me to run Terrier racing in the main ring for them both days. hows that ? seemed to get a good turn out.....on top of the reduction in stalls ie no fishing or nets etc even though it's my local i'll no be there
  12. den, sorry bud i won't manage this one, effin night shift, but gotta pay the bills eh
  13. i'd stick to the teddy till the penny really dropped and the pup (who's still a baby) got the words and actions (for me sit, stay, fetch, reward ) really embedded, but like bryson says keep the sessions short let the pup play afterwards and don't let it get boring atb
  14. a reward doesn't have to be food, a police dog's reward is often a ball, sometimes more people orientated dogs rate a fuss more than an edible reward
  15. yeh its funny andy, ive took him to alot of differnt places ,and he gets real good bags of rabbits, best bag was 28 from 32 runs, and even on harder ground still will get 90% of whats there. But them bigger rabbits he seems to think if he aint got them in 2-3 turns he dont bother, strange aint it because i know he could if he really wanted to . like i said on the phone ray it horses for courses, jazz is much the same, sure she's had golf course and arable bags but put her on harder ground, moorland or sand dunes and she's a different animal for sure, and maybe because they know
  16. jeff they sure are looking really smart, you must be well chuffed....i'm always at bob to get a wee lurcher again he hunts his whippets far more than he races them.......the only thing i can see wrong with your pup mate.........it would look better lying on my floor
  17. only jesting never roasted game like that would have thought a wee bit dry but looks good all the same
  18. well done but............did the fox taste good
  19. never doubted for a minute i only thought to post as i don't have a vested interest but i have been in the dog game for probably longer and although i've killed lots over the years it's nowhere near these numbers so i feel fairly well qualified to applaud your dedication.....how many others on here would have kept going when a breeding didn't click or a pup wasn't what you expected or when the shit really hit the fan.....it appears theres as many on here jealous as there are knockers.......just you keep doing what your doing......and ffs keep the posts and the pics going
  20. lamps a matter of choice if money's tight check out ebay, for the training theres a similar thread on page 2 pup 5mnth
  21. don't know andy never met him but on page 225 theres 50 hares in two shifts if he could keep those numbers going he'd have a thousand in a month and a half and theres some doubting his numbers over 30 dedicated years i'm a fairly cynical kinda guy but i don't doubt him or his tallies at all,
